Official Donald Trump for President thread (1 Viewer)

this is a very well done piece on the Trump phenomenon. Although written by a leftist who doesn't think Trump will win the GOP nod, he gets far closer to uncovering the truth of why Donald is resonating with voters than any NRO article could. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/09/frank-rich-in-praise-of-donald-trump.html#

Republican potentates can’t fight back against him because the party’s base has his back. He’s ensnared the GOP Establishment in a classic Catch-22: It wants Trump voters — it can’t win elections without them — but doesn’t want Trump calling attention to what those voters actually believe. Poor Bush, once the Establishment’s great legacy hope, is so ill-equipped to pander to the base that he outdid Trump in defending the nativist term anchor babies by applying it to Asians as well as Mexicans.

As the Trump fallout has rained down on Clinton, so it has on the news media and political pros who keep writing his premature obituary. He has been dismissed as a lackluster also-ran in both debates — compared to the “impressive” Fiorina, Rubio, John Kasich, whoever. No one seems to have considered that more Republican primary voters may have cared about Tom Brady’s endorsement of Trump hours before the CNN debate than the substance of the event itself. Throughout, Trump’s rise has been accompanied by a veritable “Dewey Defeats Truman” festival. After the McCain smackdown in July, political analysts at the Times, the Washington Post, and CNN all declared that he had reached a “turning point” presaging his demise. The Times’ version of this consensus ran as a column in “The Upshot,” the paper’s rubric for data-driven reporting. It argued that because Republican “elites” had been outraged by the incident, it would “probably mark the moment when Trump’s candidacy went from boom to bust.” This conclusion ultimately proved no more predictive than the ostensibly data-driven Literary Digest poll proclaiming Alf Landon the certain victor over FDR in 1936. Given the hostility of the GOP base to elites in general and McCain in particular (unless he’s on a ticket with Palin), it was a better-than-even bet that Trump’s numbers would go up, as they did.

Trump, we’ve been told, is sucking the oxygen out of a GOP contest whose other contenders constitute a “deep bench of talent” (the Times) and “an embarrassment of riches” (Peggy Noonan). But Trump is the oxygen of the GOP race, and that deep bench’s embarrassing inability to compete with him is another important story. Even so, guardians of journalistic propriety (and some readers) have implored the upscale press to resist emulating cable news and stop paying Trump so much attention.

Unsurprisingly, the shrewdest description of the Trump show’s appeal has come from an actor, Owen Wilson. “You can’t help but get a kick out of him,” he told the Daily Beast, “and I think part of it is we’re so used to politicians on both sides sounding like actors at press junkets — it’s sort of by rote, and they say all the right things. So here’s somebody who’s not following that script. It’s like when Charlie Sheen was doing that stuff.” As Wilson says, for all the efforts to dismiss Trump as an entertainer, in truth it’s his opponents who are more likely to be playacting, reciting their politically correct and cautious lines by rote. The political market for improvisational candor is as large as it was after Vietnam and Watergate, and right now Trump pretty much has a monopoly on it.

Here's why Ann Coulter thinks Donald Trump has a real shot at winning it all

http://www.businessinsider.com/ann-coulter-donald-trump-election-immigration-2015-9

It's all about immigration. Stop, you're killing wages, you're killing our neighborhood. All our fancy people, they're not the ones being burden by these swollen waves of third world immigrants pouring into our country. It is heavily the working class, black teenagers unemployment rate is through the roof (21 percent), well who is taking these jobs? Illegal immigrants

Trump's candidacy is really exposing like I never thought it could get exposed is how every other one of these Republicans can not take the pro American positions because their donors don't want it. They are completely beholden to elites who do not care about America. They don't care about historic America, don't care about traditional America. The rich are like locust, they will just come into a country and eat it dry. What does a rich person care about America? They are going to move off to an Island.

This is America's last shot, the elites are about to win and are about to transform our country into just another Mexico.
:goodposting:

I agree with Ann Coulter. Time to deport the illegals. Not that hard, just do it.

I saw where Scott Walker dropped out of the race today. More to come soon. I believe Trumps numbers will go up as candidates drop out. Most don't believe this, but I like Scott Walker when all this started. I believe most of his supporters will go to Trump. Time will tell.

Jim
Trump's picking them of one by one. Huckabee, you are next.

Donald Trump got exposed in the last debate. He knows nothing about policy, and even people who hate the establishment are starting to realize that this guy is really unqualified to be President. His numbers will start to recede now, I predict.
What are you, 0 for 20 in the other Trump thread when it comes to predictions? Don't you get tired of being wrong?
:goodposting: I agree - JamesbrownkidIt's funny how many times the Press, Media types, and both the Republican and Democrat Establishment have said that Donald Trump is finished. They just don't understand what Trump is about. Many of "We the People" are pissed off and angry about both parties and what they are doing and not doing to our country. Trump is the result of that anger.

Trump is not finished....far from it.
Trump is PT Barnum. No scratch that. He is PT Barnum and Bozo the Clown in one terrifically awful package. His support is a damning indictment of the sanity and intelligence of the American people.

i find it amusing that walker is trying to rally the troops to derail trumps run....that will backfire for sure....the whole reason hes doing so well is because people are sick of politicians...they will see walkers move as another way of controlling the race ,causing people to support trump even more

Yeah pretty much. Trump won't lose support at all because we are the ones that hate the Walkers and Huckabees so there's nothing they can say to sway us. Now it comes down to swaying those that are still supporting the recycled losers like Bush.

This schtick/commentary is old and tired.

Why is it not an indictment of how pathetic the Republican party is or a testament to how ####ed our current system of government is?

Congressional approval ratings are in the single digits. Majorities think the country is on the wrong track, etc.

And you think it is sane and logical to pick a candidate that is a member of Congress or was once in Congress or is an entrenched member of the political elite?

Makes perfect sense. Brilliant analysis. Can't wait for the next installment.

It's one thing to realize the system is broken and typical politicians suck. It's completely another to then take that realization and somehow convince yourself that Donald Jackass Trump is the answer.

If you are a serious person who wants real change you don't throw your support behind an egomaniac blowhard who is only concerned with self promotion.

Donald Trump sends Club for Growth cease and desist letter

"I am not surprised the dishonest, irrelevant and totally failing Club for Growth has resorted to attacking the definitive front runner, especially after I refused to contribute to their pathetic group," Trump said in a statement. "We will be releasing my current tax proposal, which is a major decrease in taxes, in the next week and will continue to expose the two faced hypocrisy of the Club for Growth and the problems groups like this perpetuate within a broken Washington, D.C."

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/COQrV_nU8AAitvd.jpg letter from Club for growth asking Trump for a million dollars. What a bunch of jokers.

Donald Trump and Ted Cruz would both be excellent presidents because nothing else matters if illegal immigration isn't handled properly.

Yes Herr Brown. The evil immigrants are the cause of all your problems. If only someone could come up with a plan to deal with them. A final solution if you will.

Rand Paul if he ever learned how to not talk like a whiny idiot. Love his ideas ir's just he coems off as a wacko.

If you still aren't getting how important the illegal immigration issue is I suggest you read Adios, America

“Americans are under no moral obligation to grant amnesty to people who have broken our laws. “The moral thing to do” is usually defined as “following the law.” The fact that Democrats want 30 million new voters is not a good enough reason to ignore the law and screw over American workers, as well as legal immigrants already here.”

“The mass migration of the poorest of the poor to America is bad for the whole country, but it’s fantastic for Democrats. Ask yourself: Which party benefits from illiterate non-English speakers who have absolutely no idea what they’re voting for, but can be instructed to learn certain symbols?”

“Then, Republicans should ask Democrats: Why is it so vitally important to keep bringing in new workers to compete with low-skilled Americans and drive down their wages?”

“A good-for-America immigration policy would not accept people with no job skills. It would not accept immigrants’ elderly relatives, arriving in wheelchairs. It would not accept people accused of terrorism by their own countries. It would not accept pregnant women whose premature babies will cost taxpayers $50,000 a pop,1 before even embarking on a lifetime of government support. It would not accept Somalis who spent their adult lives in a Kenyan refugee camp and then showed up with five children in a Minnesota homeless shelter.”

“In all, nearly 60 percent of immigrants—legal and illegal—are on government assistance, compared with 39 percent of native households.6 Why would any country voluntarily bring in people who have to be supported by the taxpayer?”

“Everyone who supports our current immigration policies does so for his own reason: Democrats for the votes; Employers for the cheap labor; Rich people for the nannies, maids, and gardeners; Republicans for the campaign cash; and Churches for the taxpayer money.31 You will notice that none of these reasons has anything to do with what’s good for the country.”

No. Not really.

Maybe Cruz, but I find the dude completely full of himself and just get a weird vibe from him. I get the, I may agree with him, but he feels smarmy just like all the rest type feeling.

Maybe Paul, but he comes off as such a smart ### little twerp who is more interested in appearing or showcasing how intellectually superior he is to you or how he can "out Constitutional" everyone.

Maybe Kasich. I used to like Kasich back in the day but now feel like he is a squish and every other Republican who says they are for "X" when they are campaigning but do a bait and switch after they are elected.

Maybe Fiorina, but I don't know what to think of her at the moment.

I will never vote for Bush...even if he runs against Hillary.

Carson seems like a nice guy, but I just don't think he has the gravitas to be president nor do I feel like he would be leading his administration.

At the end of the day...no...I don't really have a Republican that I "WANT" to vote for or a guy who I believe is going to stand up for what I want.

Very presidential.

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has a new campaign-oriented book on how to restore a crippled America to greatness coming Oct. 27, Simon & Schuster imprint Threshold announced.

Trump said, "I am excited to announce that work on my new best-seller is almost done. Not since The Art of the Deal have I had this much fun writing a book.

Better than some recycled loser who is always down on their knees pandering to special interest groups.

People talk about trump like he is some sort of idiot because they disagree with one/some/most/all of his politics. I'd still like to have him negotiating for me though. More than anyone else out there.

Was not impressed. When trying to make the point about reaching a particular point of debt would turn us into a large scale Greece, Colbert asks what is so magical about that number and Trump pretty much says "I don't know, that's what they tell me." I expect more from a Presidential candidate if he is going to bring up a particular point. I fear his lack of depth of knowledge, outside of building a wall, on a great many topics.

Any other candidate would be crucified for an ignorant response like that. But then again, other candidates would have a hard time surviving if they said McCain wasn't a war hero, or essentially claimed a female candidate was ugly, or allowed a supporter to show blatant biases against Muslims.

I get the desire for an outsider, but Trump ain't it.

The amount of BS he's gotten away with so far is astounding. I'm inclined to believe this will change come general election time, but who the hell knows. He's already gotten much further than many predicted at first.

You all are setting the bar to high...seriously what is the worst that can happen. Failed diplomacy, war, economic hardship, inability to govern, etc. There ain't nothing Trump can do to make things worse.

No, they talk about him like he's an idiot because he says dumb things, rambles on incoherently without connecting his thoughts, andcan't answer simple questions. In other words, because he's an idiot.

He really isn't all that impressive from a business standpoint either, other than as a Kardashianesque self-promoter. I don't know why you'd want him negotiating for you- seems like any time he negotiates on behalf of anyone other than his personal interests the party he represents ends up in bankruptcy.

They tried the usual tactics to destroy him for his gaffes early on, and it only made him stronger...

Were you paying attention, or are you intentionally being wrong to push your anti Trump agenda? He didn't say I don't know, he said "It is the number we become like a large scaled Greece."

I've kind of tuned out of all politics lately. Has Trump proposed any specifics to his policies yet? Any more info on this tremendous wall he is going to build on his first day in office?

What I love about this response is that it exposes the degree to which the media allows candidates to control interviews. This has been going on for a long time but Trump's idiotic 'answer' truly shows what is going on.
