Agreed. The main thrust of my point here was to point out that it is utter nonsense to believe that Trump's "economic plan" would be better than continuing the status quo, when it would actually be absolutely disastrous to return to industrial revolution style tariffs, protectionism, and isolation.

I've got a handful of dullards at work who like him, and it's hard not firing back on FB sometimes, believe me. Just not worth it, I know.

Most of the people that I know that lean right are voting for Gary Johnson...

I'm starting to read some articles about how the House might actually even be in play due to Trump's unprecedented ####show of a campaign. Obviously that is a stretch, but the more obvious it becomes that an epic beat-down is happening, the more likely Republicans will be to just stay home on election day. And they're not excited to go vote for the orangutan to begin with.

The voters apparently don't want that. If speaking honestly about issues worked somebody would try to do it. Nobody does because it makes for dull television and doesn't get ratings. The voters want the ridiculous circus so that's what they get.

The next time the GOP candidate will be a little more diplomatic but he's just going to be a new and improved version of Trump. He'll still be pushing the same buttons and blowing the same dog whistle.  I'd guess the Democratic candidate will have a liberal version of this same act.

His plan is a disaster, without a doubt. The thing that is depressing is that there is an element in both the Trump and Sanders camps that actually believes protectionism is a real remedy.

There has to be a lot more movement for me to say they are going to lose the House, but they are going to lose seats IMO.

 
Interesting article by Katy Tur, who has covered the Trump campaign from its inception for NBC/MSNBC. Turns out she got the assignment by default because they needed a reporter to cover his campaign announcement and she was the only available in the newsroom at the time.

I do and it bugs me because while I am aware of a great many people in my social circle voting for Trump there is one in particular that just outright bugs me and makes me mad because of who the guy is and the friendship we have.

Yeah. I did vote for Bernie, and agree with much of what he ran on, but he was off base on this. We can help the working class effectively by making higher education and technical and vocational training more attainable, and by looking more closely at the social safety nets. It's absolutely unrealistic and misguided to believe that this country can ever be a 1950s style manufacturing powerhouse ever again.

I have a similar issue. I know a smart, terrific woman, a long time friend who is supporting him and while I am very into politics I never make value judgements with people or ever seek to ramp up political issues, But I think I have a serious conversation coming with her.

 
the guy behind trump who looked shocked when he made the second amendment comment inferring they shoot hillary was interviewed and said that  he knew exactly what trump meant and that he would have taken him to the woodshed i belive the quote is down here in the south we dont curse in front of a woman we dont drink in front of a preacher and we dont make those jokes in public man too bad more trump guys dont have the backbone to admit he was a dope like this guy take that to the woodshed bromigos

If they could actually govern again, that would be a frikkin miracle.

Even if they don't win the house, it's called working across the aisle. Maybe we can get back to a semblance of this if the D's narrow the gap in the house.

Count me as somebody who believes that when Congress struggles to get much done, it is generally a net positive, at least relative to the kids of BS that either party would enact if it had the ability.

 
The guy climbing the tower is about a half mile south of our hotel. We have plans tonight (Hamilton!) or I might have to go and watch.

Well I'm not advocating a New Deal or anything, but it would be nice to pass budgets on time, not have threats of shutdowns, pass some needed health care reforms to fix what needs fixing in the ACA. God forbid they pass an infrastructure deal to fix bridges & roads and raise the gas tax for the first time in 3 decades to pay for it (that's how infrastructure is funded). Basics.

I am not an advocate of the extreme obstructionism and government shut-down ploys that douchebags like Ted Cruz love so much, but I am absolutely fearful anytime one party has too much control of Congress plus the White House. Everybody should be, really. It is really a Pandora's Box situation. They can't help themselves.

Agreed. Most reasonable estimates have them picking up between 5 and 20 seats, which obviously wouldn't be enough. Trump is so outrageous, though, that I won't be at all surprised if he continues to say and so stuff that causes the gap to widen further, and continues to hurt the Republicans down ticket. People generally don't like to come out and vote for the loser of an obvious landslide.

Why would the Hillary campaign staff not only invite but seat prominently for the TV viewer the father of the Orlando shooter? What was their intent? What did they hope to gain from this? How could they think that this in any way would help Hillary?
