My contention is they need to fundamentally change how they do business. You want access to the RNC machine? Okay, you need to meet prerequisites -- previous gov't experience only: sitting republican governors, congressmen and senators get an automatic bid. All others have to jump through hoops -- raise xxx millions of dollars, collect xxx million signatures, win mock debates, earn references from sitting GOP congressmen, etc. And there's a maximum of 6 spots in the debates 12 months from the first primary, 2 spots starting one week before Iowa. The final cuts are decided by the chairman.

Think about it, the system they have now is like allowing a Jew to campaign for Pope. Get some basic controls on who is allowed to compete to lead your party for crissakes.  Why would you want all that ambiguity and randomness when you've got so much at stake?
"The system is rigged"

Trump is very likely going to lose this time around, so he's not really what we should be worried about.  The worrisome case for 2020 is that the Republicans base finds a white nationalist who is actually a competent politician.  Trump is a joke, but the next guy might not be.
This could be what really finishes the GOP.   I think it'll survive Trump pretty easily, as he's easy to write off as a one time phenomenon.

They need to abandon these people now. Abandon trump now. Rip the bandaid off and play the long game. In 4-8 years (maybe a longer sacrifice though) when people see the gop did the right thing. When the gop no longer stands for angry, white, religious, and crazy (rightfully or wrongfully). When the democrats run some whacko occupy wall street type (instead of a star like Booker) then people will flock to the party.

They can set themselves up for greater substantial success in the future by starting right now.
I said the same thing in 2008 - instead they doubled down.  From their actions I can only conclude they have given up being a national party.

Well, that's the risk. But they'd undoubtedly be better off had they done that this year. They'd still lose the White House, but might have avoided the down ticket bloodbath that's coming. Plus, Trump wouldn't have mounted a serious campaign as an independent IMO. No debates, no party $$$ -- he'd get sick of that really fast I think.
Hindsight and all that. They probably weren't ready to just cede the election last fall and no one really thought that he could actually walk away with the nomination. I don't think the Republicans realized just how successful they were at whipping their base into a frothing frenzy over the past few decades.

But Trump is the 'incumbent' in that niche, isn't that a very big advantage? He's got four years to prepare...
He doesn't really want to win, though. Nor can he, now, in four years, whenever. He'll get a bunch of new shows on which to bloviate about how great he is, and about 13 million new customers to buy his made in China crap. He'll be happy with that.

Well obviously no one thought he would win. But they've skated on the edge of this for years with the religious bigotry, obstructionism, science denial, birtherism, demonizing of the left, etc.

Boy, talk about ad hominem.  Calling me a liar about my qualifications?  That's like calling me Donald Trump.  I can't think of a worse insult.  I'll tell you what, cashier boy, you like to bet.  How much do you want to put up on it?  I haven't seen my diploma or my college transcript for 30 year or so, but I can dig one of them up if you're going to pay enough. Put up or shut up, punk.
I apologize friend, I was just trying to get under your skin. I was really hoping to get an intellectual response to some of the things I posted yesterday.

I don't doubt you have the education that you claim.

so how does trump a anti big government guy propose to super double secret extreme vet potentil immigrants without adding government weight i am just curiuos to hear and i suppose we will make mexico pay for it cause hey why not take that to the bank bromigos
I don't think Trump ever claimed to be against big government. Based on the policy positions he's announced, he's one of the top two biggest government candidates to run this season in either party (along with Bernie Sanders, and I'm not sure what order to put them in).

I don't see how anyone can knock him over the baby comment.

A: he was trying to be funny

B:who hasn't been annoyed by a crying baby at an event , recital , on a plane etc
I guess he failed history on the "to the victor goes the spoils" actions of the US post WW2

In other news, remember that imam and his assistant who were gunned down in cold blood the other day?

Turns out the killer is an Hispanic. And in 2014 another Bangladeshi Muslim was beaten to death by two Hispanics. And in 2002 a Bangladeshi photographer was beaten to death by an Hispanic. (All in the same hood)

Pathetic and ironic that one of the locals, Musharraf Hossain, tries to blame the murders on Trump.

Some of the less politically and Soros motivated are alleging the murders are gang related.

I doubt we hear anything else from the media about this since the perpetrator is not a white male.

@21:00 it's so nuts, basically talking about a policy of war profiteering, imperialism, pillaging.
Today we begin a conversation about how to Make America Safe Again.

In the 20th Century, the United States defeated Fascism, Nazism, and Communism.

Now, a different threat challenges our world: Donald J. Trump.

my bad i keep forgetting he is not a real republican take that to the bank

The other day, my father--n-law felt compelled to write and mail the following note to all his children. He is a long-time Republican,  WWII vet and retired farmer.

I am 91 years old so I can still remember the leader in Europe who decided he didn't like a certain group of people. So he gathered many people behind him and started gathering up these people. He put them in jails and made them work as slaves. He killed many to control them.

After a while, people in the nations did not liek his work and started trying to change his mind. After many years and many lives they finally stopped him. He committed  suicide rather than stand trial for his atrocities.

I hope we never see that again.

Trump might be the worst politician in the history of politicians.

I realize some of his supporters probably think this is a good thing, but clearly it is not.

Definitions of a 'good' politician: Someone who can fool the masses into voting for them by dangling carrots, all the while knowing that, once elected, they are going to put the carrot back in their pocket while laughing and forgetting all about the lemmings they just fooled into voting for them.

Trump has the fooling lemmings part down. He just isn't good at getting enough of them.

you could define it many ways:

1. Good at fooling people into voting for you

2. Good at convincing people into voting for you

3. Good at crafting and passing legislation

4. Good at negotiation and compromise

etc.

he hasn't shown to be good at any of them yet.

Thread was much more entertaining before most of the Trumpkins left in shame. Arguing with the few that are left is about as much fun as going all out against my 8 and 11 year old daughters in games of one on one. And probably less challenging too.

The raging racist work vendor guy in my twitter feed has stopped retweeting everything Trump says and has gone back to simply retweeting everything Sheriff Clarke and Larry Elders say. Nothing about policy or platforms, just all black/white conflict all the time. He lives in as white rural an area as exists and is 90 minutes from the nearest city. :lmao: At least he realized he wasn't doing his team any favors by adding volume to Trumps words.
