Hell, a majority of Republicans in the House and Senate voted against the Family Medical Leave Act, which provides unpaid family leave.
I was listening to a show this evening and the on air host equated Trump's maternity leave proposal to a stab in the back to true conservatives.  The host was apoplectic.

I think the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.“

Wow a whole bunch of he said she said with no proof.

I find it funny that Trump received praise from many black leaders FOR DECADES! That was until he ran against Clinton. Now everything is racist.

I also find it funny the guy hates jews so much he married one.

Your whole post is one big joke. Anne Franks relatives thinks trump is acting like hitler LMFAO! Honestly can you sink any lower? How about a quote from the little old lady who lives down the street.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Trump will end up being a little left of Clinton. The people who just blindly vote for political parties need to get their heads out of their rumps
The lack of mandatory paid family leave in this country is baffling.

Another good reason not to vote for either of them.

You and Murph with those esoteric words that Trump supporters have to look up.

I hope this will be the media's focus over the next few weeks. Nate Silver was making a good point over twitter yesterday- Trump has so many scandals, and is so evasive in speaking on them, that the media can't cover them the way it would cover a normal politician's scandal. They have to choose between focusing on a few of them in depth or just throwing up their hands and hoping the public can sort through it.  But I think using a charity that collects donations from other people to further you own interests is something that is easy to understand and report, and should hopefully clue reasonable people in on what we're dealing with.

The work David Fahrentholtd of the Washington Post has been doing on Trump's charity scam is amazing, and people should check it out just as an example of journalism at its finest, if for no other reason.

But if you've only got time for one article, read this Atlantic piece that came out yesterday.  No matter what you think of Trump right now, you'll think less of him when you're done. I hated the guy before and even I was surprised at what an utter POS he is when it comes to charity and his foundation. I challenge any Trump supporter to read that and then defend his actions and character.

Bloomberg poll gives Trump 5% edge in Ohio (in the wake of a few recent Clinton stumbles, literal and figurative). I forgot that winning Ohio has augured the eventual winner of the Presidential election for over a half century.

This part of that Atlantic article was news to me and is pretty awful:

What emerged in the course of this reporting was a highly unusual attribute of the Donald J. Trump Foundation: For years, it’s been giving away other people’s money in Trump’s name, sometimes in ways that seem to funnel money into Trump’s pocket.

For example: Trump once approached a New Jersey charity called the Charles Evans Foundation and asked them to donate to the Donald J. Trump Foundation, citing efforts to raise funds for the Palm Beach Police Foundation. “The Evans Foundation said yes,” Fahrenthold reported. “In 2009 and 2010, it gave a total of $150,000 to the Donald J. Trump Foundation, a small charity that the Republican presidential nominee founded in 1987. Then, Trump’s foundation turned around and made donations to the police group in South Florida. In those years, the Trump Foundation’s gifts totaled $150,000. Trump had effectively turned the Evans Foundation’s gifts into his own gifts, without adding any money of his own.”

How could Trump have made money on the deal? The Florida police group gave Trump an award for his giving (which was actually Trump giving them money he got from someone else). Trump dressed up in a tuxedo to accept the honor that he didn’t deserve. And “on the night that he won the Palm Tree Award for his philanthropy, Trump may have actually made money,” Fahrenthold reports. “The gala was held at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, and the police foundation paid to rent the room. It’s unclear how much was paid in 2010, but the police foundation reported in its tax filings that it rented Mar-a-Lago in 2014 for $276,463.”

Comforting to see journalists doing their jobs, and doing it well.  A warm salve for the burns the Ezra Kleins and Samantha Bees have been delivering on the rest of the media.

Agree with you about the Trump Foundation being a scandal that could have legs because it's easier to follow and be bothered by.  The news in this Newsweek piece should be disqualifying for Trump's candidacy, but the connections are difficult to follow and easier to dodge.  Almost like it will clutter the landscape.

Given the Trump campaign has followed many of the same protocols of the Trump Foundation - amazing how much the rent went up on the Trump Tower floor housing the campaign headquarters when big money donations started coming in - make me wonder if the whole point of the campaign was to just collect donations and funnel them into his businesses.  Trump's defenders will say the campaign has done nothing illegal by paying rent to facilities owned by Trump and they are correct, but it's also the opposite of the self-funded campaign Trump and his minions have been selling for over a year.

One thing that's amazing and disheartening is that so many people aren't seeing this obvious scam.  It's really not complicated at all. This isn't Iran-Contra we're talking about. He's taking money from other people and using it for his own benefit in various ways (funding baseless nuisance lawsuits to settle political scores, funneling it back to Trump family businesses, bribing public officials, buying self-portraits) while lying about it to the public and the donors about it. Who can't wrap their heads around that?

And how do they not understand that his campaign is basically the same thing?  He's still feeding his own self-interest, only know he's scamming people out of political support in addition to money, and he's using fear, economic frustration and racial resentment instead of charitable giving as the sales pitch.  He doesn't care about any of us. He hasn't cared about any of us for 70 years, he's sure as hell not gonna start now.

The guy's been a scam artist the past 10 years at a mimumum...he would be for the next 4.  Anyone that doesn't think Trump won't enriched his family if he is President is fooling themselves.

Yeah, sure.  Still, that scam was a new one on me.

And it seems like it could do some damage if someone calls the Palm Beach Police and explains what happened and got some comments from them. We're talking about law enforcement in a huge swing state, one that Trump absolutely needs if he's going to win.

In any case, Obama's line on the 6-foot self-portrait is the way to prosecute the case against this scam.  Shows his HUUUGGEEE ego, makes fun of him, and shows that the Foundation is a scam in about 10 words.  That riff should be repeated in every speech from Hillary's campaign for the next 57 days.

He said she said?  Much of it is his own freakin words.

You all keep burying your head in the sand with it though.  The joke are people that actually support that clown and don't think he has said and done racist things.

The Trump Foundation … even gives in situations in which Trump publicly put himself on the hook for a donation—as when he promised a gift ‘out of my wallet’ on NBC’s ‘The Celebrity Apprentice,’” The Post investigation concluded. “The Trump Foundation paid off most of those on-air promises. A TV production company paid others. The Post could find no instance in which a celebrity’s charity got a gift from Trump’s own wallet. Another time, Trump went on TV’s “Extra” for a contest called ‘Trump pays your bills!’ A professional spray-tanner won.

The Trump Foundation paid her bills.
Remember, the Trump Foundation doesn’t use Trump’s money. In other words, the masses watching on television were egregiously misled about Trump’s generosity.

That’s the sort of guy he is.
lol

I guess that explains it.

Morning Joe hashed over that a little. Clinton campaign will say things like he's a scam artist, Obama (and previously his campaigns) will lay out actual instances of the scams. Clinton needs to learn how it's done.

There's a lot of people I disagree with about things yet still can point to fundamental decencies about them.  Trump's character just makes me fundamentally angry.  When I hear small business owners tell their stories about what a joyful day it was for their businesses when they landed contracts with the Trump Organization, and then get screwed over so badly by Trump - sometimes to the point of bankruptcy - for no better reason than Trump didn't feel like paying them and living up to the terms of his agreement... I get so angry I have to pause the video or pause typing out this sentence.  As damning as behavior like that should be, it's easy for Trump defenders to say those businesses shouldn't have been so leveraged or should have had better lawyers, blaming the victim.

But this charity scam... this one should have legs.  It can be explained in 140 characters or fewer, and very difficult to defend without also coming off as fundamentally flawed.

The fact that none of the Trump supporters in this forum will touch this with a ten foot pole is also a pretty good sign that it has legs. His behavior is that indefensible.

The problem is that it requires the more accessible (i.e.TV) media and the public to focus on it rather than being distracted by the ten insane things he and members of his campaign do every day. I have my doubts about the ability of either of them to do it.
