What I fear is that this was designed to reassure suburban white women who lean Republican that he is not racist. And it will be effective because a lot of people have short memories. The media is a willing participant- the headline from this will be "Trump says Obama born in US!" Not that he blamed Hillary (falsely), not that he took credit (falsely). And at the same time he got in the commercial for his hotel and Medal of Honor winners making Trunp sound like a patriot and great military leader.

Once again this has the fingerprints of Kellyanne Conway all over it. Her whole strategy since she signed on has been to get white women to vote for Trump. And it's working.
I am worried people will vote for Hillary and not realize she is a bigot that called a majority of decent Americans deplorable. Scary

Why would you lie about what she actually said? I mean, there is plenty about which to criticize her. Even - perhaps - this statement. But misrepresenting what she said only hurts your cause.

Unless, of course, you have a very narrow view of who "decent Americans" are.

Back in 2011, Trump said he would release his tax returns if Obama released his birth certificate.

Now that Trump has finally conceded Obama held up to his end of the bargain, it's time to Trump to make good on his side.

People who think the blacks and Mexicans are responsible for their misery are voting for Trump.  Yes.
Well that makes your position a little clearer - Our lives suck and it's because of Blacks, Mexicans and Muslims (you forgot the Muslims!) so we're voting for Trump. I think there is a significant number of people that believe that. I also think there are a significant number of people who believe it is because of Washington too, and will go for Trump because the status quo sucks and he'll shake it up.

Mighty big of you to admit that you can criticize her for calling Trump voters deplorable.

Trump tells the media he has a big announcement and it's a 30 minute commercial of military endorsements. He continues to make the media do anything he wants. If Hillary had tried this they would have cut away after 5 minutes.
Hillary is really scared now when Trump decided to tone down the crazy.

Wow. For those who missed it, Trump gave a 30 minute commercial for his new hotel and military endorsements. Then at the end he said "Hillary Clinton started the Birther movement in 2008. I ended it. Barack Obama was born in the United States. Thank you."
Should make a great moment in the debate.

And here is why the Washington Post is still the best for Presidential politics:

Trump admits Obama was born in U.S., but falsely blames Clinton for starting rumors

Trump's birther event is the greatest trick he's ever pulled

Trump says something crazy, claims it's 'sarcasm' the next day, and then say the crazy thing again the following day.

We have someone very close to being President whose M.O. is 'sarcasm'.

I actually don't criticize her for it. I think she was right - many are deplorable. And Trump purposely appeals to the worst in them. He's disgusting.

Perhaps she was a little high in saying half.

But, of course, that doesn't change the fact that you misrepresented her statement. And in doing so, weakened your argument.

 (size = "6.02 * 10^23") OH COME ON (/size)
Of course he did. He could have just released the long form when the issue was first brought up, but he refused. Human nature being what it is, his opponents wondered what he was hiding. It was a stupid move on his part.

People without Asperger's Syndrome can tell when Trump is joking around and being sarcastic. Seems like everyone in the press is either a liar or they all have Asperger's Syndrome.

bueno:

Obama brought the whole birther thing on himself. Just like Trump is bringing the whole "real net worth" thing on himself by not releasing taxes and Hillary is bringing the whole health issue on herself by not releasing medical records. Of the three issues, only the question of citizenship bears on the constitutional requirement for the presidency. Obama could have avoided the whole thing by releasing the long form. It was stupid not to do so. (and the birther conspiracy doesn't make any sense anyway, as his mother was a US citizen - it doesn't matter where he was born.)
There are two things wrong with this post. One is a failure of logic, the other is a failure of knowledge.

1. Failure of logic: you stated "Obama brought the birther thing on himself" and "it doesn't matter where he was born". These two statements completely contradict each other. How could Obama have brought the birther thing on himself when it didn't even matter where he was born?

2. Failure of knowledge: based on the citizenship laws on the books in 1961, it did matter where he was born. (Because Obama's mother had not lived in the country long enough for her son to qualify as a natural born citizen).

Furthermore, your entire premise is based on flawed logic, because the birther movement (and Trump's connection to it) did not end when Obama released his long-form certificate.

You not criticizing her for calling half of Trump's voters deplorable makes you a militant liberal, and anything you say regarding politics should be ignored

Yes he did. By being a black President with a Muslim name.

Other than that everything you wrote is complete and utter bull####.
No, by not releasing the long form when the data on the short form was questioned. Just like your latest idol is bringing the health conspiracy down on herself by not releasing medical records. Both are stupid moves, and frankly, Hillary's is stupider.

Anti-Trumpers are coming unglued already, and it's only September, this is glorious to watch
I'm totally unglued. Enjoy it if you like. I think this man is going to cause great economic and social pain if he is elected. I think the people who support him the most are the ones who will suffer the most under his presidency. I can't believe that Americans seem so willing to walk into what is so obviously going to be a catastrophe.

But go ahead and gloat and laugh as if this is a football game and against all odds your team has taken the lead. Hey it's only the future of the USA. No big deal.

One factor that might make it a lot harder for Trump to get away with this latest nonsense is that there's an actual person at the center of it, someone who is far more trusted and admired than either of the candidates. And he can command even more news media than Trump.

All he has to do is get in front of the cameras, admonish Trump for perpetuating racist conspiracy theories about his past, tell everyone that Clinton had nothing to do with it, and demand an apology from Trump and/or ask him to meet his own standards for transparency by releasing his tax returns.  I have a feeling we'll hear from him or someone speaking on his behalf very soon.

Of course he did. He could have just released the long form when the issue was first brought up, but he refused. Human nature being what it is, his opponents wondered what he was hiding. It was a stupid move on his part.
I'll just say that I find it incredibly offensive that you're blaming the victim for this, and will not engage you further.

I doubt Obama was even aware of what a long form birth certificate was until this idiocy came up- I certainly wasn't. And even after he produced it, Trump called it a forgery.

So stop with this nonsense. You're trying to deny the utter racism and hatred that permeated this issue from the moment Trump first made his demands. Because Obama was black, he was required to prove his citizenship. #### everybody who insisted on this.

Another funny take I just saw on the tweeters:

Even if literally every single thing Trump just said were true (obviously it isn't), he'd still be admitted to having been duped eight years ago by a lie and wasting tons of time and money since then before becoming virtually the last person on earth to acknowledge the truth.

I would argue that leaders lead, and Obama hasn't.
There is literally nothing of substance to that comment. How do you 'lead' a roomful of adults who put their fingers in their ears and stick their tongue out. And, of course, they know the voters won't hold them accountable.

Be real. You can't lead those who refuse to be led.

bueno:

This is a classic example of retroactive goalpost-moving. You are forgetting that the Republicans claimed in 2008 that they'd drop the birther issue if only Obama would release his short form birth certificate. Then when he did that, Republicans instantly moved the goalposts and claimed that he needed to produce the long-form birth certificate. Then when he did that, Republicans (and Trump) moved the goalposts yet again, claiming that Obama needed to produce the original long-form birth certificate (not the 2011 reproduction).

Again, your entire premise is flawed. Birtherism did not end when Obama released the document which you claim would be the be-all, end-all.

Of course he did. He could have just released the long form when the issue was first brought up, but he refused. Human nature being what it is, his opponents wondered what he was hiding. It was a stupid move on his part.
So it's on him to try to put to bed a ridiculous accusation that was rooted in racism? Perhaps he could have ended it earlier if he released the long form, but that certainly doesn't put one iota of the blame for the whole stupid episode on him.

Jr. interviewed by George S. on GMA, discussed several things in a seven minute segment:

1) George asked at least a half dozen times why Trump doesn't say himself Obama was born here (which I take it he since has this morning, albeit blaming Clinton :) ), while Jr. dissembles.

2) Addresses the gas chamber remark. I actually believe this wasn't a holocaust reference. I've used the word crucify metaphorically, but wouldn't expect to be questioned about insensitivity to Christians. Pointed out he used the term electric chair recently in talking about media bias, his sister, BIL and half his best men and bridesmaids at his wedding are Jewish. He complained about liberal media, referenced his sister's interview she cut short with Cosmo when the interviewer asked if leave would include same sex marriage parents.

3) Brought up the tweet with symbols identified with white supremacy. He denied any knowledge of this.

4) The Newsweek bombshell article about the potential future nightmare of attempting to disentangle Trump's global business conflict of interests with US national policy. After saying the corp would be put in a blind trust and being reminded by George S. that wouldn't be possible (at least 4-5 X by my count), Jr's line was essentially the same as Ivanka's. You can trust us. America is too important. He can't be bought. Blah blah blah. IMO this part came across as evasive, shallow and completely missing the point, not a good look.

It wasn't really about where Obama was born.  It was always about white people who couldn't accept a black man as their leader.
