What is the relationship between Trump campaign and Putin that led Trump to recite Russian disinformation at rally?

Several of us have been pointing out for months that many of Trump's talking points come from Kremlin disinfo with great speed & accuracy.
Tobias just touched on this in the DNC thread.

- Basically what happened is that Trump essentially spouted a bit of disinformation from Russian FSB which is been plugged into a WikiLeaks document or rather maybe the 'analysis' portion of WikiLeaks, not sure, basically creating the illusion that Blumenthal and Podesta were aware that they knew that Hillary could have prevented the militia attack at Benghazi. Anyway it appears to be a sick lie in the form of KGB style disinformation straight out of the Cold War.

But that part is not really surprising. The strange part is how Trump was repeating it as fact almost in time with it being reported and posted in Russian media organs.

- eta - Another view here from WaPo in which it is suggested that Trump just read something he saw on twitter, but really I'm not sure what the difference is. Willing Dupe or Useful Idiot, same thing.

- eta2 - Here's the actual email. It's obvious Blumenthal was just c/p'ing the text of an article.

This should be a massive story, really.

Well, the way some people tell it Clinton was responsible for 9/11, Obama destroyed the economy, and Republicans were against going into Iraq from the start, so you never know.

They're pretty good at revisionist history.
I especially love it when they talk about the Iraq vote as a reason his judgment is better than hers.  Those same people who were trying to justify that war right up until Trump starting using it against Hillary. Now it's like "you were right all along Donny!" (ignoring the lie he was against it of course).

"Sometimes I wonder that our Constitution is not only broken," LePage told radio station WVOM, "but we need a Donald Trump to show some authoritarian power in our country and bring back the rule of law because we've had eight years of a president — he's an autocrat, he just does it on his own, he ignores Congress and every single day, we're slipping into anarchy."

- I have been to Maine and I have no idea how someone like this could be governor of that state.

Pretty sure that Trump's rabid supporters will show up on election day, and not vote for anyone who jumped ship. Meanwhile, more reasonable and moderate Republican voters are going to be staying home or the most part.

The Democrats are going to flip both houses

- I have been to Maine and I have no idea how someone like this could be governor of that state.
Now imagine that a Democrat said "I think our Constitution is broken."

(Not to mention the part where he says "Obama is an autocrat" right after saying "We need Trump to show some authoritarian power".)

How much damage to the Republican Party do we think that he is actually capable of? Obviously their majority the Senate is at least in huge trouble, but could the House actually be in jeopardy? The establishment types seem to think so...

Col. Kurtz of Apocalypse Now weighs in on the current state of absolute chaos and disarray in the Republican Party.

"The horror. The horror."

* Trump is basically like the unstable nitro in the Friedkin film Sorcerer (itself a remake of the classic Wages of Fear) that needs to be transported from point A to point B hundreds of miles through the jungle to extinguish a raging conflagration and out of control oil rig fire, in which any of hundreds/thousands of the slightest bumps in the road along the way will blow everything to smithereens.

I've been completely blindsided by the recent Trumper Tantrum. No one could ever have seen this coming.

He could tell his supporters to stay home on election day because it's rigged anyway.

LePage is Bachmann level crazy and dumb, so zero surprise. But yeah, really hard to believe that he can get elected in Maine. I could see West Virginia or Alabama or something, maybe.

Really tough trying to keep up.

WaPO and NYT doing amazing work on this train wreck, it seems like every hour someone is sharing must-see videos from Oliver, or Bee, or Maher, or another grat article detailing another story.

Then there's his own tweets.  Now he's going scorched earth on the GOP.  Amazing.

If West Virginia was in New England, it would be called Maine.

People go to Maine, have some lobster on the coast, and think that's the state.  It is not.  That state has some country-### hillbillys living there.

Yeah, that's probably true. I've only ever been to the coast.

Trump Unshackled!  As if that's going to help.

Let's be honest, he was going rogue almost daily in the summer.  Then, right when it seemed as if he was going to double down on the insane with Breitbart and Co., he got his act together.  Was not nearly as belligerent and over the top as he had been, and I give a lot of credit to new campaign management for that.

The result? He took advantage of Hillary's illness (sad as it was to push that, but effective) and deplorables comment. Suddenly he was not the only mean spirit in the race. Hell, he almost got even...

then the debate. then the tape.  now he's gone back to all off the cuff, #### everyone else let's plow forward without any thinking about strategy or consideration of next steps.

Gotta be a smart campaign move, right? Worked so well before (the debate... the tapes... more tapes to come...)

Wow, Ben Carson is really struggling on CNN.

In response to a question about characterizing Trump's comments as locker room talk or, as the host was saying, sexual assault, Carson stammered:  "Say whatever you need to feel better about it."

So it's finally been confirmed that Russia is pushing disinformation through wikileaks to disrupt the election.

First off, #### wikileaks and their #### quality control.

Secondly, #### Russia.

Secondly, #### Russia.
1. Why #### wikileaks? They are serving their own selfish (and very anti-Clinton) agenda, fed by personal ego, ambition and animous of their pathetic coward of a "leader"

2. Definitely why #### Russia. Russia being Russia.

3. SUPER DEFINITELY #### THOSE WEAK TRAITORS among us who devour efforts to dig up dirt on Clinton or other americans by foreign powers who seek to destabilize us - we see EXACTLY where your allegiance lies, and it's certainly not with the well being of our nation. You selfish pathetic anti-patriots, shame on you.

The pace is dizzying and ACCELERATING.

The NOT Blumenthal expose (on being an unwitting tool/agent and "useful idiot" for Russian propaganda).

Earlier the expose on Chinese steel.

George Will wrote a withering, scathing indictment (as did another author titled The Trump We Always Knew).

Full on implosion mode, Putin splinter cell, campaign death spiral descent into madness. NPD in action.

When the Mexican cartel centered in Ciudad Juarez hired ex-commandos Zeta Squad as "security"/executioners, other cartel leaders thought they were foolish and this was a dangerous precedent. Sure enough, in a few years, the lion realize it had no more use for a master and leash and went rogue, eventually supplanting their original employers.

In retrospect, catastrophic miscalculation by Republican leadership to think a wild card/loose cannon as unprincipled, unpredictable and mercenary as Trump could be tamed and harnessed. Kind of like the apocryphal Darwin Award story about somebody that strapped a JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) onto the top of his car and flew into the side of a mountain.

* Check out Seth Meyers from Washington DC last night, he has been killing it lately as much as anybody in recent weeks after Oliver. I was reminded of a 2011 Washington Press dinner in which Meyers roasted him similarly to Obama, which some think was the original impetus/trigger to run for office in the first place (he made a half hearted effort to laugh with Obama, but was glowering at Meyers the entire time, if looks could kill, Meyers would have been like James Cann at the toll booth in the Godfather, I almost expected to see steam coming out of ears... and whatever).

** The best words. I have tremendous judgement. I have a winning temperament (famous last words department).

What is telling in this is during the trials and tribulations that Hillary has been facing it seems as though she has a number of longtime sincere friends there backing her, supporting her and fighting for her across a pretty wide spectrum of past and present. Yet for Trump there are so very few of these and it seems that the only ones left now are the sycophants and hanger-ons looking for a scrap that falls from the table. But very little in long time associates or business partners stepping up for him and it seems sad that Trump does not have these types and I suppose it speaks to his character.

Who talks like this in the locker room?
Someone on 538 pointed out that "locker room talk" generally takes place between friends, in a private setting, and there is typically competing banter back and forth (comparing experiences). But Trump's "locker room talk" doesn't fit that mold. Billy Bush is not Trump's friend and they weren't comparing experiences. Also, it wasn't exactly "private" because there were at least 7 other people present for the conversation.

Even by Trump's crazy standards there is just way too much to follow if you have any type of work to do other than read the internet. Cannot keep up this week.

Nice work republican voters

Seriously, this election has completely destroyed even the little bit of productivity I had before.  I devote several hours every single day to reading about Trump, writing about Trump, talking about Trump, listening to Trump, thinking about Trump, etc.  I can' t get enough of this ####.  Sad!

At this point by the end of the week his family may have to announce they don't endorse him.

He held it together for about 9 months way longer than I thought he could last. Thanks for the ride, orange man.

My wife the other day said I spend "way too much time talking to my fake friends about Trump"

I said they are real to me damnit!!

First time around, he got 38% of the vote in a three way race with a liberal independent coming in a close second.  Then he was the incumbent and got 48% in another three way race, same independent coming in second (though not as close).  Maine of the south/coastal is a vastly different place than the north/inland.  Trump will likely get the one electoral vote awarded for the northern district, while the southern district is as blue as it gets.
