I'd counter that jobs are actually in pretty good shape overall at the moment -- unemployment is low and while wages are still behind where they should be, that has slowly started on the upswing also in the last few months. The problem is that the recovery hasn't been felt, at all, by the small single industry towns in the rust belt that were devastated when the factory, the steel mill, the mine, etc shut down for whatever reasons -- leaving huge parts of the country hopeless, jobless, and devastated by meth use and the diseases (hep and HIV) that run in it's wake.

The solutions to this involve widening the social safety nets, and investments in education, vocational retraining, and drug rehabilitation and education -- and those aren't things that are part of any Republican agenda that has existed in any of our lifetimes. I'd imagine that Mike Pence's term as Indiana governor might serve as a decent predictor for the Trump administration's approach to these issues -- and as an Indiana resident, I can tell you that this is a huge reason that he is Trump's VP in the first place. Pence is hated here because of his response to these problems.
I'm also an Indiana resident by the way (Fort Wayne). And I agree, he is not well liked. On my end mainly regarding his stance on public schools and vouchers.

Is this how lazy people rationalize not going to college? Get a scholarship, work hard. What a joke.
Funny that every plumber, electrician and guy who owns his own construction company that I know works harder than most of my corporate cohorts...and oddly enough they all seem to have a nice summer home up on a lake in New Hampshire...I was fortunate enough to attend what is considered a good school in the northeast but to think you are better than someone simply because you studied English Lit and went to keg parties for four years and they didn't is the height of arrogance...and a big reason why there is a President-elect Trump today...

By the way I like how the second this group of white-folk you disparage starting voting R instead of D they suddenly went from working class to uneducated...that was a real nice touch this election season...

What I want to see is a republican agenda enacted and see what that looks like and its effects on the country. If it looks like crap - vote him out and go another direction. I personally think a republican agenda is and has been the way to go for years. But like I said, if it sucks, we move on. That's truly one of the great things about this country.
What does Donald Trump have to do with a Republican agenda?

So, he's only the President for the people who voted for him? And everyone else can do what? Considering 52% of eligible voters didn't vote. Pretty telling. That article says exactly nothing. It says that some guy who said he would leave should leave, and Trump should leave the governing to Pence. That's a pretty detailed plan ya got there.

What he promised was that everything would be so great it will be unbelievable, and that our heads will spin at how fast and great it will be. Suckers fall for it, and here's the actual plan: nada.

So you guys keep holding your breath about what Trump will do for the people who voted for him: The high school educated whites waiting for their factory jobs, and their wives. Good luck. Since I'm well off and don't simply vote for my own self-interest, I have you guys to thank for getting me exactly what will benefit me: Republicans all around. LMAO that the under-educated, under-income whites think this is win for them though.
i see no grace here ...just an elitist ****

Hold your breath waiting, take a nap waiting, doesn't matter to me.

The first thing Trump should do is order his followers to purchase mirrors. Then order them look in them, tell themselves their jobs aren't coming back, that Trump can't do anything about it, and they need to take personal responsibility for their own lives.
Jeez....you could certainly take that last part "Trump can't do anything about it and they need to take personal responsibility for their own lives" and change that to "Obama" or "Hillary" that's more like the viewpoints at the present.

the other part about look in the mirror, your jobs aren't coming back I assume was just a general comment...myself and spouse live a nice lifestyle in the upper middle class, thank you very much.

Whatever he is advised to respond..just like Obama, Bush, Clinton, Carter and everybody before them.  There are people much smarter and that have way more information than the presidents.
I dunno. I hope you're right. But Trump can have all the advisors he wants; the buck still stops with him now. And his major complaint with Obama and Hillary with regard to terrorism is that they were "weak".

I recommend obtaining advanced education and being willing to be mobile. Or be lazy, blame others, and vote Trump. Whatever works.
No, you mean vote Hillary/Obama "and expect everything to be given to you"

voting republican usually means you believe in standing on your own 2 feet and not looking to government to bail you out or to take care of your life.

Is this how lazy people rationalize not going to college? Get a scholarship, work hard. What a joke.
Dude, I'm on your side politically (I think), but this is just plain awful. There are a ton of smart and hard working folks out there that don't go to college, and there are a ton of people of all kinds who just genuinely don't really have the opportunity to do so for legitimate reasons. From personal experience with friends and neighbors here in steel mill country, it's not being lazy when someone's solid job (that they bust their a$$ at way harder than we do as white collar types) that they've had for decades suddenly disappears when the mill / mine / factory shuts down. And you can't just drop everything and go to college or move when you are in your 30s / 40s / 50s and have a family to feed.

I'm bitter about Trump, too, but the way to deal with it isn't to demonize the people who elected him. We need to understand why the formerly Democratic working class is so pissed and address that moving forward to bring them back into the fold.

I am not really any more concerned about Trump nuking than any other President. Maybe there is even less of a chance since it seems like Trump wants to be more friendly with Russia. My concerns are more to do with him just not being qualified to be President and doing a poor job leading.
And there's nothing wrong g with that viewpoint....seems pretty rational. We all have a lot to see about this coming administration, but you're right, I don't think "oh, Trump is President we are headed to nuclear oblivion"

its not a very good look....id love to talk to one of these  Millennials and find out if they realize how awful they are coming off  as
I know many middle age and older professionals who plan to protest. if it's peaceful, doesn't interrupt rush hour, I don't think it's awful. I might even go. Most protesters are peaceful.

What are you exactly protesting? Let us in or else?
Not exactly.

Most Mexican  Americans who wave Mexican flags at protest rallies are not, in fact, undocumented aliens. They are legal American citizens. (Most undocumented aliens are too cautious to display their status in public, for obvious reasons).

The legal Mexican Americans who protest by waving Mexican flags believe that rhetorical attacks against illegal immigrants are actually bigoted attacks against ALL Mexican Americans. You can agree or disagree with the viewpoint (personally I think it has a lot of merit particularly with Donald Trump) but this is why they protest. They wave Mexican flags as a means to proclaim pride in their heritage.

What are the protesters thing they are going to get out of this, is not going to make a whit of difference.

Just more of the kind of stuff that helped get Trump elected.

You can't leave, we will need your wishy washy insight over the next four years.
We don't need yours.

You're one of about 4-5 people in the FFA, during my time here, whom I regard as a full blown racist. That is, not somebody who makes racist statements from time to time without really understanding the consequences of those statements, but somebody who understands exactly what they're saying and believes in it.

I don't believe the majority of Trump supporters, here or elsewhere, are racist, but there is a small loud minority who are and I think you're one of them. I find your views not only wrong but utterly repellant. I don't want to have a back and forth with you on this, or any other subject for that matter. I hope you vanish from this board.

Actually I expect a lot of violence from these "peaceful protesters" because when Trump is in the White House and Rudy is the Attorney General protests will be handled in a much different way.

Law and order will be a big issue for the next four years.

As a high school teacher, there are kids worried about Trump. They are black, Muslim, immigrants, etc. Kids aren't morons. They know Trump has said negative things about Mexican people, mass deportations, banning Muslim immigration, tweeted racist things. Obviously they are concerned about him winning.
The deplorables are a bit safer though.

Oakland turned into a riot.  Thats not that out of the ordinary for Oakland though.

It takes a certain type of stupidity to think a rich billionaire who made his money by crapping on people will help you.
Glad some got their white privilege back. The hate just oozes out of Trumpers. They are excited and overjoyed a guy endorsed by the KKK got elected?
You expect me to give them respect?

Also, wanting everything given to you? Some people are selfish and dont want to help out other Americans, some of us understand its needed and see why it exists.
Yet, when those Republicans in the sticks, farms or land need subsidizing, they start them horse and carriages up and run to the nearest government building.

this rioting is the equivalent of a child throwing himself onto the floor and screaming and crying and throwing things in a blind rage ...its so childish it would be comical if it wasnt so sad

Rioting I agree...peaceful protests are as constitutionally protected as anything.

I don't see any on here supporting riots or violence or looting.

It seems these highly educated white-folk have a different meaning for "peaceful protests" than us cavemen...

Don't be so hateful.

The ####### vote for Trump was a protest.  So is this.

By the way you bet your butt we will be a dictatorship soon.
All Republican house, senate and presidency?
Funny, the irony will be when they are the ones to come take your guns as they try to implement the emergency rule like Hitler did. You know they will give it to him.

Trump will be able to affect the country as much as Obama, Clinton, Bush, etc have.  He'll be lucky to push through 10% of his agenda.  Washington DC is like an aircraft carrier going 1 knot.  If you turn hard either way, it will take about 20 years to see any results at all.

Fact:  The Republican Congress is going to run this country the next 2-4 years.  Not Trump.  He may try, but he won't.  They will keep him in check for the protection of their own careers.

Things I could see coming out of this:

  • progress on the national deficit through various means
  • Obama Care replacement (thankfully ending this travesty that is costing me $1800 more per month than 2 years ago and resulted in me terminating 2 of my 4 employees).
  • more secure borders
  • line item veto
  • a change in the tax code.  less corporate tax.  more tax on personal high income earners (I'm surprised the liberals aren't thrilled he'll likely increase the tax on the wealthy through closing loopholes).  It's a perfect time to nail down a streamlined tax code.
  • Energy sources - I think coal and oil are obviously going to benefit.  Should drive the environmentalists crazy, but they have no means to stop it and it's the best way for him to keep his promise to the rust belt and low wage under educated workers.
Things I don't see changing:

  • deportation.  Don't see it happening.
  • foreign policy improvements.  Maybe he can improve relations with Russia.  But it will be temporary and I don't see him making inroads in the Middle East, Europe or China.
  • gun policy changes in either direction.  I think there will be a ton of in-fighting within Congress and Trump and the NRA, and essentially nothing will change.  It's too bad.  If the NRA would give a little while they have a Pres and Congress on their side, I think we could clean up some of these mass shootings and get this issue under control.  But frankly, the NRA doesn't want the issue under control.
  • overloading the Supreme Court with hard core conservatives.  He'll get to add one, and the Dems will filibuster until it's a somewhat reasonable choice.  If another conservative steps down he'll get to replace them, again through a filibustered process.  RBG and Breyer will hang on as long as they can.  They should have stepped down 4-5 years ago if they really cared about their successor having a similar position as theirs.  Their selfishness has made this what it is for liberals.  Those two have no one to blame but themselves.  It will not change Roe v Wade.  I'm pretty conservative, but that was decided years ago.  It's about time to drop it.

Clearly you forgot he has the same party in the senate and house... first time since 1923, so that may be why those Presidents couldnt get as much done.
Simple education for the love of god people. Educate yourself on facts. All Republicans clearly make it easier for him to push the agenda.

You think a Billionaire is going to make his tax bracket higher when he doesnt even want to pay taxes as it is?

This is downright frightening. Our President shouldn't be this thin skinned.
Once again he's absolutely right. Of course you guys wont believe him or me even though we are proven right time and time again.

Don't you find it odd these protesters already had thousands of professional signs made up in a few hours? For a guy that only a few people like myself gave a chance to win. Isn't it weird those signs are exactly like the signs in Robert creamers DNC office and at Michael browns protest amongst others?

I'm sure this is totally organic.  :oldunsure:

Gotta admit it would be pretty impressive if a bunch of uneducated white-folk from the sticks figured out how to make the most advanced country in history a dictatorship in 2016...I'm really beginning to think I have been wasting money saving it for my kid's college fund...

The scariest thing is how ignorant to the facts Trump supporters are.
This is the divide, its not race, wealth or sex...

Its education. Some are educated with facts and Trumps supporters are educated with fake news sites they know are fake.

I'm sure those wikileaks were Organic and not pushed by any foreign country... didnt bother you though.
You're right the truth is the truth. So no it didn't bother me.

The fact you're okay with something lying, cheating and breaking the law says a lot.

Don't want to get exposed for being a crook. DONT BE A CROOK
