Official Draft impact - FF winners and losers (1 Viewer)

Guys, I have to disagree on the effect Felix will have on MBarber. I think MB3 will still get his. Felix is a complementary back, just like Julius was ... the good news for Barber fans is that the Cowboys passed on Mendenhall.

Agreed. You knew they were going to take a RB, the fact that it was Felix Jones is a good sign. Perhaps a Fred Taylor / MJD type of carry split in Dallas?

DeAngelo and Parker are the biggest fantasy losers of the day by far at this point.
Mendenhall is a stud but the Steelers gave up 47 sacks (only six teams gave up more last year) and they lost seven time Pro Bowl OG Alan Faneca and then watched 7 offensive linemen going off the board before they were able to select. Oh yeah, they also signed their QB to a $102 million with over $30 million guaranteed contract. So I would imagine that Big Ben hasn't been helped much either.

That's four RBs whose owners were hoping they would be THE MAN disappointed - Parker, White, Barber and Williams.
:towelwave: I would also think there are lot's of guys with 1.2-1.5 rookie draft picks that thought they'd be able to get "the man" such as a top back to Seattle/Detroit/Houston/Jets. This should make for interesting rookie drafts.

Mendenhall is twice the blocker Parker is. :X And all the OL were gone.

Agreed. Of all the backs that I feared would go to Dallas, Felix Jones is the one I preferred. IMHO F.Jones and Chris Johnson would be change of pace threats. Jones may also fill a returner need. Jones' ability to be an all-around RB [receiving, short yardage, and particularly blocking] will determine his ultimate impact. Barber is pretty good at those things.I'm not a big Lendale guy but I don't see Chris Johnson impacting him much. Basically this sticks a dagger into Chris Henry though.

As a Browns fan I have to tip my hat on the selection of Mendenhall but I also have to wonder what you are going to do to improve your line. Reothlisberger can take hits but even a big guy like Ben has his breaking point.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Cooley yet. That's a lot of new receivers to share targets with. One of the biggest reasons I used to be high on Cooley is he had very little competition in that offense.

I'll give you a winner no one talks about -- Brian Calhoun. DET said they were high on him, and maybe they actually mean it. They passed on RB in both rounds, and with only Tatum Tinker Bell ahead of him, this guy actually has a shot to become the starter at some point this year.

At WR, a definite winner was Antonio Bryant, signed by Tampa. Has the talent to become the #1 in a pass oriented offense with Galloway at 37, and no WR was drafted (Dexter Jackson is more of a KR/maybe slot guy). If not Bryant, it'd be Clayton or Stovall, but I think Bryant will be the guy.

Kellen Clemens is a winner, as NYJ passed on Brohm/Henne. Same with Tarvaris Jackson MIN and Drew Stanton DET.

Houston RBs are winners, and a committee of Ahman Green and Chris Brown in Gibbs' zone blocking scheme could do as well as many higher profile guys.

49er WRs are winners with no WR drafted, so Mad Martz has Bruce/B Johnson/Battle/etc to work with.

Edge James is a big winner, and can end up with a lot of carries like last year.

Travis Henry, as DEN took no RB.

I think WR Reggie Brown would be happy that small D Jackson, a KR and probable slot/gimmick WR, was drafted by PHI instead of more legitimate WR1 competition like Devin Thomas. Brown came on very strong the last half of 2007 and I expect that to continue.

Seattle also didn't invest in WR, helping the value of the current starters Burleson/Branch/Engram, but also helping the WRs waiting in the wings like Ben Obomanu, Courtney Taylor, Jordan Kent, and Logan Payne.

Lets also add the Titans WRs as winners. Gage definitely, and either Brandon Jones or Roydell Williams benefit by no WR being taken.

Saints WR2/WR3 (likely Patten/Meachem or vice versa) benefit by Jeremy Shockey not being traded to them by NYG.

Houston RBs are not *winners* by any stretch of hte imagination. There are four rounds left in this draft and its a big time 3 way committee anyway, just like Tampa. *if Carnell is back

Ben Roethlisberger

Jason Campbell

discuss..
Did Pitt magically draft some OLine help I wasn't aware of? If not, Roethlisberger isn't moving up.
Mike a lot of us we want an offensive lineman to protect Ben. How does he protect Ben?Mike Tomlin: You know there are two schools of thought to protect a quarterback. You can get linemen or you can get him weapons. People that people have to account for.
