My old thread on starting a rumor of Owens to the Eagles has been trimmed. Difference of remberance I guess. I vividly remembering you not wanting Owens.Id love to have Walker at the Eagles price tag. And, sure, like any Eagles fan I have no love lost for TO considering the way things devolved but I in no way, shape or form absolve the role Reid, Banner and McNabb played in creating that situation. TO came back from a broken bone to play in the Super Bowl and all we had to do was be proactive and guarantee that roster bonus and add another year or two to his deal. By not doing that, and then a chance encounter with Drew Rosenhaus at ESPN Celebrity Bowling, the rest is a painful history. You'll also recall that I said TO would end up in Dallas and it would make me sick b/c they would win a lot of games with him.
As to Walker; again, this isn't TO we're talking about. TO had no injury history before he joined our team, was already on a Hall of Fame pace, and was unquestionably one of the premier talents at his position. He also came aboard grateful to be a part of that team as you'll recall. Will I embrace Walker if we acquire him? Sure, of course.

I had no interest in Davis; honestly he's been around the block plenty of times and we didn't need him being confused for a consistent pass catcher; we have enough of those already. The nice thing about being a Birds fan is that our return game can show improvement by signing ALMOST ANYONEAndre Davis re-signed by Houston. There goes the WR/Returner combo...
What do you guys think the chances are for moving Gocong to DE? We have a good set of LBs, we could move Spikes to SAM, Omar to WILL, and Bradley to MIKE. Then pick up another backup LB and we'd be set. In a recent article, JJ made it seem like Bradley would have a good shot at being MIKE and he was toying with moving Omar around.

I don't think Gocong is big enough to play DE. I like his versatility at LB, keeps QBs guessing whether he is rushing or dropping into coverage.

I doubt they would make a position shift. They will likely use him as one in various formations, but I think Gocong stays Sam for sure.

Gocong is probably best suited to play the position Merriman plays in San Diego, Ware plays in Dallas, etc. He's a DE/LB hybrid, and they've been saying that since he was drafted. He'd be much better suited as a pass rushing LB in a 3-4. That said, I think he did a real nice job last year, his "rookie" year, and will continue to progress at LB. Don't like this one at all. The guy is a journeyman who had one decent season. (And one out of the league entirely!) He's purely a situational pass-rusher... I think they have that role covered with Cole and Thomas. What happened to Antwan Odom?

He was an undrafted free agent out of Georgia, played in Washington for three seasons as a backup and in his first year of real playing time dropped 8 sacks in Oakland. It's not like the Birds are going to be giving this guy huge money.

Who knows what kind of money they're offering? I simply find it a little unsettling that they've chosen to target an undersized situational pass-rusher on the first day of free agency. If this was a guy they picked up two weeks from now once the dust had settled, then ok, good depth signing. But Clemons is looking like one of their bigger priorities, and I'm just hoping that Reid and Banner don't view him as the answer to their need at DE.Journeyman? That's not really a fair assessment (and I'm as diehard an Eagls fan as it gets)*** Kearse was given the biggest DE contract in league history yet never had more than 7.5 sacks in a season or 38 tackles*** Darren Howard was acquired for big $$$$, got 35 tackles and 5 sacks in 2006, and then was benched in 2007*** Juqua has been an adequate situational pass rusher, but is one-dimensional*** N.D. Quick question for you guys that always pops in my head when someone says this. Why do people make claims like this? I mean shouldn't there be SOMETHING to trade for Roy for? In other words, if someone (or more than one) benefited the team more than Roy, he'd still decline? My guess is that claims like these are overrated.Unless I'm missing something, Matt Millen already came out and said Roy Williams isn't available. Has that been rescinded?

I agree we have to see the terms of the deal before reacting too strongly one way or the other. That said, the Eagles may not make all the right decisions in free agency, but they've never been accused of overpaying the perceived fair value. There's no reason to think they're going to pay Clemons an enormous contract; but rather fit him into the overall cap structure. Anyway, the Raiders could match anyway, which knowing Al Davis, he probably will.

In retrospect, he wasn't worth the money. But remember at the time of the signing, Howard was New Orleans franchise player in each of the prior two seasons. The Birds guaranteed him $10.5mm; definitely the market rate for the guy at the time. The fact he's sucked wind since was an unfortunate turn over events though

If Det. can't sign 2 starting caliber CBs, Lito for Roy is going to look really attractive all of a sudden. Anywho, it's just a gut feeling. If they are hypothetically willing to give a 2nd and Lito for Fitzgerald, why wouldn't they try for Roy instead with Lito as bait?Unless I'm missing something, Matt Millen already came out and said Roy Williams isn't available. Happy trails to Thomas Tapeh, who has agreed to unspecified terms with Minnesota. Ho hum.
Most columnists and radioguys in Philly seemed to agree that Tapeh would be gone, but I've heard no speculation about who would fill his shoes. A talented fullback can be a valuable receiving weapon in Reid's offense, but the Birds might need more of a traditional blocking fullback considering the lackluster blocking ability of their TEs and the increasing reliance on Westbrook.

I'm not disputing that he's the best CB available.I just think that for the money being invested they are better served signing G. Wilson and keeping Lito & Brown at CB.

I will be the first to admit that I had interest in G.Wilson. However at that price tag I wouldnt want any part of him. I thought at best he was a 10-15 mill guy. I am thrilled they wont be looking at him.
