My old thread on starting a rumor of Owens to the Eagles has been trimmed. Difference of remberance I guess. I vividly remembering you not wanting Owens.Id love to have Walker at the Eagles price tag. I dont want Walker at the Eagles price tag, he have an amazing season, and the Eagles tell him he doesnt deserve what the free market will pay him.Might want to check that JAA. I didn't have a problem with TO, I just didn't believe the rumors that we would acquire him considering Reid's history of eschewing 30-year old free agents, or the WR position. When we actually acquired him I was giddier than Chase at a Joe Namath Convention!JAA said:To be fair JW, you wanted no part of TO and I believe were most interested in Darrell Jackson and Isaac Bruce. I disagree with Walker and TO having the same ache, and i know we will diisagree on this (again). TO wanted the money he deserved. TO wanted the money he could get elsewhere. TO got 10mil per year from Dallas. TO was getting 2 million from Philly in a deal that the NFLPA told him not to sign. The PHI FO wanting TO to play for considerably less than he was worth was ... and still is ... the headache. Walker is riding off of 1 season and 2 1/2 seasons. That is the reason we dont want him. He needs to prove himself. Not the same as TO.I think we get Fitz. TO money will 90% of the ability and much much less headache. Makes sense dont you think?Jason Wood said::X I want no part of Javon Walker. He's 90% of TO's headaches with 50% of his ability. Not to mention he's no spring chicken (he'll be 30 this year) and has had two major injuries robbing him of 2 of the last 3 seasons. I would be disgusted if Philly brings him in for anything less than a really cheap deal with minimal guarantees.dotman said:Well I heard the Birds are extremely interested in Javon Walker once he's cut. We'll see![]()
And, sure, like any Eagles fan I have no love lost for TO considering the way things devolved but I in no way, shape or form absolve the role Reid, Banner and McNabb played in creating that situation. TO came back from a broken bone to play in the Super Bowl and all we had to do was be proactive and guarantee that roster bonus and add another year or two to his deal. By not doing that, and then a chance encounter with Drew Rosenhaus at ESPN Celebrity Bowling, the rest is a painful history. You'll also recall that I said TO would end up in Dallas and it would make me sick b/c they would win a lot of games with him.
As to Walker; again, this isn't TO we're talking about. TO had no injury history before he joined our team, was already on a Hall of Fame pace, and was unquestionably one of the premier talents at his position. He also came aboard grateful to be a part of that team as you'll recall. Will I embrace Walker if we acquire him? Sure, of course.
I had no interest in Davis; honestly he's been around the block plenty of times and we didn't need him being confused for a consistent pass catcher; we have enough of those already. The nice thing about being a Birds fan is that our return game can show improvement by signing ALMOST ANYONEAndre Davis re-signed by Houston. There goes the WR/Returner combo...![]()
I don't think Gocong is big enough to play DE. I like his versatility at LB, keeps QBs guessing whether he is rushing or dropping into coverage. What do you guys think the chances are for moving Gocong to DE? We have a good set of LBs, we could move Spikes to SAM, Omar to WILL, and Bradley to MIKE. Then pick up another backup LB and we'd be set. In a recent article, JJ made it seem like Bradley would have a good shot at being MIKE and he was toying with moving Omar around.
I doubt they would make a position shift. They will likely use him as one in various formations, but I think Gocong stays Sam for sure. What do you guys think the chances are for moving Gocong to DE? Written by Micah WarrenFriday, 29 February 2008I spoke to a source close to the situation who told me that Asante Samuel is in. It’s done. Per the source, the cornerback and the Eagles have worked out a deal. Samuel is definitely one of the big-time names in free agency this year, and the Eagles were obviously intent on signing him even though this constitutes tampering. That said, everyone in the NFL tampers. It’s a fact. You see free agency start at 12:01 a.m. one day, and they have major deals done by 12:05 a.m. These things just don’t happen that quickly.
gocong can't stop the run at DE, he'd be like a downgrade of j. thomasWhat do you guys think the chances are for moving Gocong to DE? Gocong is probably best suited to play the position Merriman plays in San Diego, Ware plays in Dallas, etc. He's a DE/LB hybrid, and they've been saying that since he was drafted. He'd be much better suited as a pass rushing LB in a 3-4. That said, I think he did a real nice job last year, his "rookie" year, and will continue to progress at LB. I think a move to DE at this point would be a step back.el super gringo said:gocong can't stop the run at DE, he'd be like a downgrade of j. thomasWhat do you guys think the chances are for moving Gocong to DE? Don't like this one at all. The guy is a journeyman who had one decent season. (And one out of the league entirely!) He's purely a situational pass-rusher... I think they have that role covered with Cole and Thomas. What happened to Antwan Odom? Now also apparently interested in under the radar DE Chris Clemons...

Who knows what kind of money they're offering? I simply find it a little unsettling that they've chosen to target an undersized situational pass-rusher on the first day of free agency. If this was a guy they picked up two weeks from now once the dust had settled, then ok, good depth signing. But Clemons is looking like one of their bigger priorities, and I'm just hoping that Reid and Banner don't view him as the answer to their need at DE.Journeyman? He was an undrafted free agent out of Georgia, played in Washington for three seasons as a backup and in his first year of real playing time dropped 8 sacks in Oakland. It's not like the Birds are going to be giving this guy huge money.

That's not really a fair assessment (and I'm as diehard an Eagls fan as it gets)*** Kearse was given the biggest DE contract in league history yet never had more than 7.5 sacks in a season or 38 tackles*** Darren Howard was acquired for big $$$$, got 35 tackles and 5 sacks in 2006, and then was benched in 2007*** Juqua has been an adequate situational pass rusher, but is one-dimensional*** N.D. Kalu was mediocre save for one season*** McDougle had some unfortunate incidents but the Eagles moved up aggressively to acquire him on draft day and got nothing in returnIt hasn't been pretty at DE, despite trying a combination of high draft picks, high priced free agents and low priced free agents.Realistically Hugh Douglas and Trent Cole are the only bonafide playmakers in the Reid era; and neither are two-dimensional assets.Ehhhh, Kearse was good till hurtCole and Juqua have been very goodAbimiri- jury still outMcDougle- keeps getting hurt so who knowsBurgess had 1 good year after he left.No a terrible track record in evaluations IMOA natural conclusion, considering how much success they've had in evaluating defensive ends.Or, you know, the Eagles could have identified this guy as a high upside, affordable option relative to a pretty weak pass rush class otherwise.Who knows what kind of money they're offering? Quick question for you guys that always pops in my head when someone says this. Why do people make claims like this? I mean shouldn't there be SOMETHING to trade for Roy for? In other words, if someone (or more than one) benefited the team more than Roy, he'd still decline? My guess is that claims like these are overrated.Unless I'm missing something, Matt Millen already came out and said Roy Williams isn't available. I agree we have to see the terms of the deal before reacting too strongly one way or the other. That said, the Eagles may not make all the right decisions in free agency, but they've never been accused of overpaying the perceived fair value. There's no reason to think they're going to pay Clemons an enormous contract; but rather fit him into the overall cap structure. Anyway, the Raiders could match anyway, which knowing Al Davis, he probably will.Don't get me wrong, Woodrow... I sincerely hope you've got the right read on this. In retrospect, he wasn't worth the money. But remember at the time of the signing, Howard was New Orleans franchise player in each of the prior two seasons. The Birds guaranteed him $10.5mm; definitely the market rate for the guy at the time. Yeah, and the Eagles said Lito is not available. Shockey is not available either, but they will trade him if the price is right. If Det. can't sign 2 starting caliber CBs, Lito for Roy is going to look really attractive all of a sudden. Anywho, it's just a gut feeling. The Eagles are playing up Asante Samuel's visit on their Web site amid reports that a deal could be near. Teams generally do not play up visits with players they expect to sign elsewhere.
Last night, I asked an NFL scout from the East Coast to rate the free-agent cornerbacks.
The scout ranked Raiders franchise player Nnamdi Asomugha "head and shoulders" above the others, with Seattle's Marcus Trufant second and Samuel third.
Asked about pouring big money into a free-agent corner, he said the player's man-to-man skills would have to be outstanding. He did not put Samuel in that category. However, the Eagles have a history of pressuring quarterbacks under defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, and pressure is a corner's best friend.

Jason Davis- 5'11", 240 out of IlliniosHappy trails to Thomas Tapeh, who has agreed to unspecified terms with Minnesota. Ho hum.
Most columnists and radioguys in Philly seemed to agree that Tapeh would be gone, but I've heard no speculation about who would fill his shoes. A talented fullback can be a valuable receiving weapon in Reid's offense, but the Birds might need more of a traditional blocking fullback considering the lackluster blocking ability of their TEs and the increasing reliance on Westbrook.
Owen Schmitt anyone?
1) One scout's opinion is just that, one scout's opinion2) Asomugha and Trufant were both franchisedFor all the Asante lovers I found this interesting

I'm not disputing that he's the best CB available.I just think that for the money being invested they are better served signing G. Wilson and keeping Lito & Brown at CB.1) One scout's opinion is just that, one scout's opinion2) Asomugha and Trufant were both franchisedFor all the Asante lovers I found this interesting

Free agency, Eagles, Asante Samuel
Samuel = the best free agent corner on the market, no one disputes that.
I will be the first to admit that I had interest in G.Wilson. However at that price tag I wouldnt want any part of him. I thought at best he was a 10-15 mill guy. I am thrilled they wont be looking at him.Let's see...sign the best CB on the market for 6 years, $60mm or an average safety for $40mm? I just want to see it on the Eagles homepagePFT reporting that the Samuel deal is five years and $47.2 million.
