***OFFICIAL*** FFA Heavy Music Thread - No banal, anodyne "Dad Rock" BS here.. (2 Viewers)

Hitting up HELLYEAH in a smaller venue a few weeks from now. Never seen them before, pumped!
HELLYEA was great! I am not sure why I love that band so much but I do. I was the old guy in the mosh pit :headbang:

Kyng was much better than I thought they would be, whoever that lead singer is can sing.  Reminded me a lot of Chris Cornell

Guess this is my next show...

Children Of Bodom, w/ Carach Angren, Lost Society, Uncured

Doors: 6 PM / Show: 7 PM

THE UC THEATRE MUSIC HALL

2036 University Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704

yeah, it's been a decade or more for me.
Earlier today I posted a note about the upcoming Children of Bodom concert. I want to recommend the venue. I just saw Gojira there, and it's awesome. It's The UC Theatre in Berkeley. They appear to have metal shows regularly. For example, Mike Patton and Dave Lombardo's band Dead Cross is playing there tomorrow night. Beautiful venue, tickets are reasonable, and it's not sleazy the way that The Warfield is.

Have you ever been to the Fox Theater in Oakland? It's my favorite venue in the Bay Area.

I've seen Gojira, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Killswitch Engage, Testament, and Tenacious D there.

saw Daniel Tosh there...does that count? lol

yeah, great venue. gonna try to see Flogging Molly there if they come back this spring.

Which reminds me. Last November the wife and I got to go to a meet and greet with Steve Vai. Later on, we met up with our kids and stood front of the stage. Vai gave the wife and daughter flowers and the band's set list which was at the front of the stage also. Here are a few photos.

Not a big fan of Ghost, but this song/video is spot on.
Ghost is interesting if nothing else.  The more I listen to them, the more I dig the music and hate the costumes.  The costumes simply do not fit the music.

Yeah, seeing them open for Iron Maiden, the Maiden fans didn't know what to make of Ghost. But like you said, if you can separate Ghost's look from the music, the music's pretty fun.

OK, a topic that needs to be discussed here, and this is really the only place for it.

Arch Enemy - "Nemesis" (my favorite AE tune.)  First link live in Tokyo with Angela on vocals, second link live at Wacken with Alissa on vocals.

Leaving aside for the moment how gorgeous the lead guitar melodies are on this song and how F#$%ING good Arch Enemy is live... two questions on the vocalists.

1) Who's hotter?

2) Who sings it better?

1) Alissa

2) at first i was going to say Alissa sang it better, because vocally she's less guttural (i.e. Cookie Monster) and it's fits my ear better. however, Angela sings with more passion and ferocity, and her growling seems less forced...more primal. final vote: Angela

also, just noticed the thread title update. anodyne =

The brunette (Alissa?) on both questions.  :headbang:

Angela and Alissa both kill it, but I'll give the win to Alissa.
