***OFFICIAL*** FFA Heavy Music Thread - No banal, anodyne "Dad Rock" BS here.. (1 Viewer)

Every time I see this thread title I always wonder what bands fall into the "Dad Rock" category so I will ask EG for a list of bands that fall into this pile.

Also reading back at this thread I have always wondered what label Corrosion Of Conformity fall into?Always heard the term stoner rock and some even consider it metal.

Another is Trivium,I have a buddy who loves this band but I just can't get into them no matter how hard he presses me to do so.Some of it sounds okay but never really got into them.

Love the guitar work jdoggy  .That was pretty impressive.

And reading back a bit I somehow missed the Angela vs Alisa Arch Enemy preference. For me it will always be Angela for the vocals but I have to admit Alissa has really impressed me so they don't really lose much as a band with her fronting them.Angela though was special so I will give her the nod but only by a bit.Great live band if you've never seen them

Without compiling a list that will be longer than the rest of the thread combined - for the most part, just read through the "Best album of 20XX" threads.  There are a million of these bands that live in the upper 20s/low 30s on your Sirius XM dial that qualify.

Thanks, broseph.

CoC started out hardcore punk, became thrash and now I guess they are stoner metal.

Fair enough.Just name a few if you have time so I have an idea where you're at on this without having to do any homework on this site.

just went to the thread EG linked ^^^ above, and decided to check out "The 37 Albums We're Most Excited For in 2018" by pitchfork.com. the results:

Bands/Artists I've Heard Of:

- 16/37

Bands/Artists With Songs I've Heard in the Last 12 Months:

- 7/37

Bands/Artists With Songs Currently in My Library:

- 1/37 (for the record, it's "Rock Your Body" by JTimberlake)

CoC is metal.  They have definitely gone through some changes, but they've been metal ever since Pepper got there.  They have a new album coming out in a few days too.

I saw Fallout Boy on the list and gave up.

You know, some people in here also participate heavily in those threads too.
He asked for examples of what might be considered "Dad Rock" and as such, have no place in this particular thread. Just because something has no place in this thread doesn't automatically make it bad or lame. I mean, I wouldn't bring up blumpkins in the suicide thread, but that doesn't mean they're not the greatest thing ever*.

*I wouldn't know. I've never received or given one.

I didn't mean that "Dad Rock" was a good or bad thing was just more curious as to what our resident metal expert considered to fit into that group.I will fully admit to liking music that some find terrible and that's fine with me,as long as I enjoy it the others can kick rocks.

I have to say, I am really torn on this one.  They kind of defy characterization.  Gun to my head, I'd say yes, but it's really not metal, or rock, or pop, or any conventional label.
Modern Germanic Folk?

Also: can it be metal without guitars?

I just can't imagine going through life that way.
It was tough and I took a ton of crap from my friends for it.I found I liked a few of the songs they did but overall they just weren't for me.I know Lemmy is a god(RIP)and I get it but again I just never really got into them like a ton of people did.

Loved some Fastway back in the day, never really cared for Motorhead(yes I'm the one).RIP :(
I feel sorry for you, but I get it.  Motorhead never really had a "breakout" album or single.  I know they're always going to be remembered as the "Ace of Spades" band, but that was not a hit by any stretch.  Ask 50 dyed in the wool Motorhead fans what their favorite albums or songs were, and pretty much every album will get mentioned by someone, and about 30 different songs, without a mention of Ace of Spades (not one of my favorite 20 Motorhead songs, BTW).

I mean, I like Ace of Spades.

But once I discovered Motorhead as a kid I was already into way heavier stuff like Slayer and Megadeth.

I'm kinda the same. I had friends that were heavily into them and could listen to them any time and never changed the station when a song came on but I never went out of my way to listen to them. I might have had one album at some point but that's about it. Loved Lemmy though.

I liked best the one album they did with the ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson.

That might be more because they didn't have any bad albums or songs.  They were tremendously consistent across all of those decades.  I can tell you right now, that If I told you my favorite Motorhead song or album today, I'd have a different answer tomorrow.

All good though.  To each their own.

Well ####.  I'm gonna go see them in Austin.

Bad enough without Lombardo but once Hanneman was gone Slayer just wasn't the same band to me. One of the best shows I've ever seen was a Slayer concert though... More like an event.
