***OFFICIAL*** FFA Heavy Music Thread - No banal, anodyne "Dad Rock" BS here.. (3 Viewers)

someone on here posted a video earlier this year or last year of a heavy trio of dudes who were no frills blue collar lookin dudes just playin some heavy ####.  they were pretty big dudes (built) and bald just wearing jeans and a shirt.   I think they were facing each other in the video.  I think they were a uk band.  I cannot for the life of me remember their name or find the post.  anyone know who I'm talking about?

Starting to become a fan of Rotting Christ. Heavy, doomy, a bit melodic.

Their old stuff is heavier and more extreme, but I prefer the newer stuff like Rituals

Saw Rivals Sons in concert last night, man that dude can sing like no one else.....amazing show.

I have to say the new singer for Stone Temple Pilots did great, I was really amazed at the job he did, they sounded excellent and they played Crackerman….

I don't know what kind f music that is but its damn good.   Switching out some of the keyboards for guitar Could make it even better.   The video is cool too.   Good stuff
Sturgill is amazing.  Everything he's done is insanely good.  He's not metal at all, but the best thing going in "country" by a mile.

He did cover In Bloom though.

saw voivod the other night and was leaning against the wall between sets when brann from mastodon walked past. dude was super friendly.

anyway the show was great but short sets. 2 tours came together (munincipal waste/napalm death/sick of it all combined with revocation/voivod/psycroptic). started at 3pm

conjurer revocation and voivod were great.  sick of it all who im not a fan of was ####### fun as #### though

Thanks for sharing and all but yowza, that website is trash in every possible way.  Gotta go run malwarebytes now

I went with Kvelertak, s/t or Meir, in KP's decade best-of thread.  Could have easily gone with Baroness' Yellow & Green, sounds so so so good, but some of the lyrics there are silly bad.. good thing about Kvelertak.. who knows what the hell they're saying

I need to force myself to try more with Gojira

Is Ghost even metal?  Call it semantics, but I think of them as hard rock more than anything.

My list of the best albums of the 10's would be dominated by Opeth, Devin Townsend, Dream Theater and Haken, but I am not a huge metal guy, so there ya go.

I think Ghost counts as metal due to the whole “Hail Satan” schtick, but few of their songs fit that category (did EG ever rule on this?). Honestly, they’re probably closer to Power Pop.

The older band that they remind me most of is Blue Oyster Cult.  Sorta metal, but imo more like popular rock.

Eh, the whole Satan = metal thing seem so decades ago. I'd like to think that we have progressed past that line of thinking.

I have been a huge BOC fan for like 25 years now (still own all of their studio albums on CD), and do not get the BOC comparisons, which I have seen before.  I guess maybe lyrically since both touch on darker subjects (with Ghost being overt with some of the Satan stuff), but musically I think they are pretty different.

Saw Kvelertak open for Gojira and Mastodon. Interesting.

If you're trying to become a Gojira fan, I'd start with a live concert. This one, for example, is great.

I fell behind watching the Lost in Vegas guys, but watched a bunch of them tonight.  Always have a smile on my face listening to and watching these two - especially the video for Megadeth's The Conjuring.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I would say that Megadeth definitely ended up winning the battle vs. Metallica.

how so? I mean I like Megadeth, but really they are not on Metallica's level.

granted Dave gets a lot of credit for Kill Em All. I don't think anything Megadeth did can compete with Master of Puppets. and I am a huge Holy Wars/Peace Sells albums fan

Agreed, but Metallica had some huge misses, e.g. “St. Anger” and “Lulu”.

Saw Static-X last night with the guy from Dope standing in for Wayne, 20th anniversary of Wisconsin Death Trip. Most fun I have had at a show in a few years. Small club in Cincinnati and crowd was into it.

Stood a few feet from Tony Campos during Mushroomheads set, got a fist bump at the end. Great night.

A bit is talking about longevity- I would much rather have post '95 Megadeth over Metallica. I think most of new Metallica is unlistenable. But that aside, listening to the 80s and 90s output yet again over the last couple years and Megadeths musicianship and solos are great.   I agree about MOP, but album wise I think Megadeth has output that is equal to or tops Lightning, Justice, and Black Album.

Love Megadeath and admire that they have never deviated from their thrash rock sound.   And, the guitar work is outstanding from album to album.   Master is the king of the albums.   Lightning is better than anything Mustaine generated.   Justice and the black album are equal to any Megadeath album.   Metallica loses points for the crap they put out at the end though.

After months of waiting, I am pretty psyched about seeing this show Friday:

High On Fire, w/Power Trip, Devil Master, and Creeping Death
UC Theatre, Berkeley, CA

Not familiar with them. Post your favorite album and I'll listen...
They have only made one thus far.

Mike Portnoy (former Dream Theatre drummer) put the band together.

Debut album is called Psychotic Symphony and they have an amazing live album out as well and have some covers they did that are simply amazing.

Just checked out “Coming Home” - it rocks pretty good. Nice find, thx!

I think the bolded is where I deviate, but it's really nitpicking.  The 2nd 1/2 of RtL is OK for me, but I would probably put a couple of Megadeth albums above it.   Like I said, it's close and a nitpick - mostly my statement was about the longevity of the bands and how much Metallica fell off after Black Album.
