I have nothing against the Devil Rays, but something just has me hoping the Sox win this

I guess its me hoping 1 former Pirate (Jason Bay) can have the joy of playing in the World Series

It looked like the swinging strike call was the right one but I would have liked to see him go to 3b for the call. It was a very close call and he was so definitive about it.

If you see it as the home-plate umpire, you're trained to call it.The reason you traditionally go to third/first base is because you're usually concentrating on the ball, so if you miss the swing, you can get help. You're in a better spot (closer, good, direct angle) to see the bat than another umpire. But, if you don't, you have help.

Home plate ump will only make that call if he's "sure" he saw it. Will never get overturned by appeal.

Agreed. That said, no harm done. Although he just called a letter high strikeout to end the 8th that he hasn't been calling.

I'm questioning how sure he could be on something that close. I thought it should have been a ball and then appealed to 3b. Obviously, after the strike call it cant be appealed to 3b.

Anyone else laughing at those two crazy big-haired blonde dykes in blue behind home plate?

ETA they moved em.

Pit of Dreams?

Really?

You take the time to make a sign, and that's what you come up with?

These fans make it really difficult for other people to pull for their team.

Gotcha. They just missed that one on Bay.

I know TB is new to the baseball thing but fans are really clueless with regards to a check swing.

EDIT: Yet ANOTHER ####### Called 3rd Strike.... PROTECT THE ####### PLATE IDIOTS. Unreal. Sox don't deserve to go to the WS with that ####

Anyone else rooting for the Red Sox just because of Maddon's queer glasses?
He wears them because the frames are from a pair of glasses his late father, Joseph, wore before he died. He fought what was thought to be terminal cancer for years and looked like he had the disease beat when tragically he died in a car crash on the way to his son Joe's major league managerial debut. He often stated that his primary reason for fighting so hard to beat cancer was to be alive when Joe fullfilled his lifelong dream of managing in the big leagues. Even though the wreckage was decribed as "devastating" and "unrecognizable", amazingly Joseph's eyeglasses survived the accident unscratched. They were the one and only item retrievable form the wreckage. And thus why Joe Maddon wears the frames form those glasses despite how unfashionable people like you find them to be.
