if closed crew doesnt work maybe an invite only would?
Your privacy settings aren't blocking party chat's right? I doubt it but figured I'd have you double-check just in case. And yeah, we might as well try out an invite only game -- couldn't hurt.

I think my Live connection is wonky so I'm going to reboot my router and probably try a direct-to-Xbox-from-cable-modem connection to see if maybe that's the problem. I'll be back on in like 10 minutes.

Trying to get online. Waiting to race. It's be 9:30 and counting. I can hear other people mumbling gibberish into their mics though!

Just passed the jewelry heist. What stocks should I be buying?
Start Lester mission, listen to which stocks he says to buy. (Turning the subtitles on is very helpful for me)

Find a way to fail the mission like dieing or shooting Lester if possible.

Load up on the stock Lester says will rise. Do this for all three characters.

Switch back to Franklin and proceed with the mission.

Don't wait too long to sell the stock. Creating different saves is a safe wait to prevent from waiting to long.

Or just use the internet and look up the list of stocks to buy before you start the mission so you don't have to intentionally fail it.

http://www.ign.com/wikis/gta-5/Stock_Market

And by the way... so obviously you should buy the competition's stock and then sell off when it's maxed. The Hotel job it maxed for me at 50% profit and stayed there for awhile (several minutes) before falling.

But then also be watching the stock of the company you assassinated the person from. Watch for it to bottom out, and then buy it. A lot of them will rebound a good amount. I completely forgot to buy Bilkington after it bottomed out. :(

About halfway through... I own all the properties available except the $150m golf course.

Is there much else that we need money for? I have been holding off on the assassination missions, but if there isn't anything else more expensive, I might just do them now so I'm pulling in the golf course weekly income. I have each character up in the $45m to $50m range right now.

Seems like others are having no trouble getting money for their characters. Meanwhile, Michael and Trevor have a few hundred grand, but Franklin keeps going broke on me. Part of the reason is because I had Franklin buy Smoke on the Water, but another is I like to use him for my moments of rampage, which I'm beginning to discover is quite costly to my characters. :(

Turned on my PS3 this morning and it said it downloaded a patch for GTAV. I loaded the online game and had no issues at all. Just beat Lamar in the race (it was easy).

Ok, let's assume hypothetically that I was interest in playing in the FBG XBox online group. Let me set the stage of my system

When I turn the XBox on I have some kind of connected account so that I have access to all the media that you can get through XBox. I have never used any of it. In fact, I am almost always eventually signed out of XBox live becuase I almost never want to wait for whatever update it says I need to download at the time.

So, I have an XBox live account. I never use it. FRom there, what exactly would I have to do to play in the group.

Oh, and I don't have, nor will I get, some kind of headset to be able to talk to people while online. If that is something that is needed, then I am out without question. That whole thing is just too living in mom's basement for me. Not making judgments against anyone. I'm sure in the end its fun. But its not me.

It's ok to just admit that your natural voice sounds like you're breathing helium.

your missing out on a lot without headsets imo. The FBG XBox crew is pretty funny. And since you are new they will have someone to trot out all their old material on. And then there is Daisy who isn't even on here, but comes with the territory.

After a mission you have to go in and buy clothes. It's hilarious seeing 8 cars parked out front in no order. Then you walk in and see 8 people (usernames above there head) just standing there staring at the clothes :lmao:

Started last night. The cars carry a lot more inertia than I recall. Bikes are still my favorite way to get around but they are so rare .

Couple of tips there then... though worth noting I started out very rich thanks to the hidden package-switch glitch which no longer works on PS3 at least.

If you have the money to buy a property, you can buy it and not actually have the cash deducted via a glitch. Which helps your income tremendously since most properties it would take 100 weeks of their payout to pay for itself.

Make enough to buy the property. Then go buy it. As soon as the cut scene starts playing after the purchase, immediately pause and go to the Games menu. Replay a Mission or a Strangers and Freaks mission. I use Rampage One and kill myself with a grenade to get it over with fast. When it cuts back to the regular game, you'll own the property and not have been charged for it.
Beyond that I play the stock market religiously. While I make save games to avoid losses, I almost never have had to use them. Before investing in anything I make a save with no money in any stocks for any of the 3 characters. Then I buy my stocks and save again. If the price goes the wrong way I can reload to the no-stock save and redo it. And each time I log in and see my Bawsaq stocks have gone up, I sell off, save, and buy back in so I won't lose ground if they drop.

I pretty much keep my money in either HAL or PIS on Bawsaq because they have been both going up steadily. PIS used to be better, HAL was better yesterday though now that PIS is quite a bit more expensive. Having those saves with no money in stocks also helps if Rockstar's online stuff screws up and the price shows 0 and won't update, I can revert back if I need money. Which has happened for an 8 hour stretch for me, though recently it's much better.

I keep monitoring LifeInvader though as the cheapest stock on the local market. It used to have, for me, a range from 3.4 to 4.9. The range recently changed which was odd, but that's another story. Anyway, if I saw it hit 3.8 or below I immediately dump my other shares and buy it up. I tend to sell around 4.2 or 4.3. Sometimes it will climb a lot higher and I miss out, but other times it will yo-yo back down and if I sold I can buy it again cheap and get the next upswing again. I think I probably come out ahead this way more than waiting for it to really climb. I'd guess I probably buy and sell off LifeInvader around once an hour or so. Unless I'm really focused on a long mission, but even then I'll take time out to check stock prices.

Also, if anyone has their bike stolen, be sure to get it back and return it. One person gives you a very big bonus. Also, if a blue dot mission gives you a stock tip, invest everything. I had a stock broker tell me to buy Twinkle and I made a ton when it shot up.

Just a suggestion -- if you want to make as much money as possible, put off all the assassination missions until the end. You'll have more to invest.

Hold off on doing the assassinations until after you've completed the final heist.
You can do this if you want an absolutely astronomical amount of money but...

Each character nets something ridiculous like $30-$40million from the final heist. Now if you want to hold off on the assassination missions so you can invest a shiz-ton of money in the assassination stocks, but considering the assassination missions help provide you with a substantial amount of money earlier in the game when it's much harder to make money, I think it's best to do them way before. Again, though, it's really up to you and whether or not you want to become filthy, filthy rich in exchange for having to scrape by and be poor for most of the game.

Don't worry, Franklin gets one as a main vehicle a few missions in. Its his permenantly and any upgrades you do to it at WCC persist. I use that thing all of the time.

:goodposting: It's not mom's basement, it's my basement. And it's the equivalent of being on the phone with your best buds. We all drink, smoke, and laugh. A lot.

Although I've never met any of my FBG ifriends, I feel like I know many of them very well and would be honored to hang IRL.

He'll , I like Uni, Sizzler, Man Back, Worm, Pete, dude, and a few others (I apologize for not listing more) then most of my RL friends!

1.) Make sure you have Xbox Live Gold and not the silver/free version. If you don't, boot up your 360 until you're at the dashboard and press the little Xbox logo button in the center of your controller. Go over to the settings tab/blade and select account management. Go over to the Your Memberships tab and select upgrade or Xbox Live Free. On the next screen you'll have the option to upgrade to Gold and just follow the instructions and pick either 1 month ($9.99) or 1 year (I forget what it is exactly, but you end up saving money as opposed to paying month-by-month).

2.) Head on over to http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/signup to sign up for a Rockstar Social Club account. Reply back here with your account name so I can send you an invite to our Free For All Mob crew. Then you just accept it and you'll be good to go.

3.) After you create a Social Club account there'll be an option to link your Xbox Live gamertag with your social account. Follow the steps to do that and you'll be pretty much good to go.

4.) Consider buying a Kinect for your Xbox 360 for like $40-$50 used or $70ish new. This way, you'll be able to get all of the benefits and features of a headset without actually having to wear a headset. You can just shout at the Kinect thing on top of your TV (or wherever else you put it) and it'll pick up your voice just as a headset would. All the cool kids are doing it!

5.) Boot up GTA5 and when the story mode loads, press Start, then press RB like 4-5 times to go to the Online tab. Select Play GTA Online and once you're connected report back in here and I/we will kindly give you further instructions on how to go about joining a game with whichever of us is currently online and playing. Easy as pie! In fact...

6.) Eat some pie or some other deliciously tasty treat to help celebrate your amazing ability to follow entirely-longer-than-they-had-to-be step-by-step instructions. Well done!

This game is kind of making me want to try my hand at the actual stock market. Albeit with a laughably low amount of money to invest and, unfortunately, no option to make multiple save life's to help ensure I won't lose any money. :kicksrock:

I totally get the headset stigma, as it does seem pretty dorky.. But I don't really get playing online without it. The whole point is communication and working together (or just drunken shenanigans), which isn't possible without a headset.

Started last night. The cars carry a lot more inertia than I recall. Bikes are still my favorite way to get around but they are so rare .
The bikes you can buy on the online dealership page are actually pretty cheap and affordable. Just bring up your phone, choose the online/browser option and then go to Transportation or whatever it says. Choose the other not luxury/wicked expensive dealership, scroll down and choose which bike you want to buy. VROOM VROOM!

Apparently being in our crew will get you a free sawed off shotgun at Ammunation AND a free sports car when you buy a garage.

Oh, one other tip for early on when money is hard to come by...

You get a discount at Ammunation if you get medals in all of the shooting events at the range. I believe if you have at least Bronze in everything it's a 10% discount, Silver it's 15% and Gold it's 25%. I got Silver in everything pretty easily, didn't know about the discount until I later saw the price dropped on body armor. Still have to go back and do them all to get gold in the ones I don't have already.

Oh, and another glitch, though one I didn't use. Upgrading your weapons for free:

Start a mission. Go into Ammunation and buy upgrades for your weapons. Kill yourself or otherwise faile the mission. The money will be back in your account but the upgrades will still be purchased.

Is there any way to get the game audio in the headset, instead of through the TV speakers?

1. I only have the free version as I never felt the need to pay for online gaming experiences I was never going to use. So the question becomes do I want to spend more money on this game to play it with you guys. This is not an easy question to answer. Further, I have a son who likes Skylanders and Disney Infinity. As such, I have already spent my video game budget through 2094.

2. That's easy.

3. That's easy. Parental control question - will it only sync up when I have the GTA game in the console, or does it always sync up? My son is not yet at the age where we care to let him see the stuff that goes on in my video games and we have strict controls on all media in the house.

4. I have a Kinnect.

5. Sounds easy.

6. If you know me and my history here, you know that prefer cake to pie. There has been much polling data and ifighting on this topic. But I get your point.

So the question comes down to money in the end. Do I want to spend any money to play this game. With you. At night. In my basement (yes my guy room is my basement). No headset. But I will be yelling at my TV. Playing a video game. Might have to run that past the wife to see if her witnessing this will reduce the amount of fun time we have during the week.

After some google work, it looks like this isn't possible, unless I invest in a "gaming" headset, is that correct? All I have now is the standard xbox 360 headset that came with the system.

Syncing your social club with your Xbox Live gamertag is basically only so you can join crews and view your stats/crew information online. Any parental controls you have in place on the Xbox 360 will not be effected by the social club/gamertag syncing at all.

In regards to it being a money issue, I suggest singing up for an Xbox Live gold account for one month for $9.99. This way, you can test out and see just how amazingly fun it is to play with all of us in the crew for the next 30 days and then at the end of the month, decide whether it's worth it to continue being an Xbox Live Gold member. Basically, it'll be a $10 30-day trial.

After some google work, it looks like this isn't possible, unless I invest in a "gaming" headset, is that correct? All I have now is the standard xbox 360 headset that came with the system.
I believe that is correct, unfortunately.

Did you look into bluetooth headsets? Maybe they'd be able to do it.

Ughh, yeah it was. :sadbanana:

ETA: Apparently, I can't read today. I meant to say that, yes, last night's trying to get online was a pretty rough go.

Finally found some easy to get to body armor lying around. No more paying $2.5k each time I get shot.

The police station that has the impound yard (white car icon on the map). It's north east of the strip club, and due south of the purchasable Ten Cent movie theatre. Go in the main door and it's lying on the ground in the back of the room, right hand side.

Don't talk to the cops too much. I spoke to one twice and it got us in a fight and I had a half dozen cops shooting at me as I ran out.
