Flying planes and helicopters and skydiving are my favorite parts of the game. Come to think of it, I never did get away clean with a fighter jet, that's going to be a project for today's session I do declare.

Can this be done online? Like can you break into the base and steal the jet? How awesome would that be to reign terror down on unsuspecting people in Freeroam?

It's actually easier than in the game, IMO. It's hard as hell to hit anything you're actually aiming for though. Blowing away cops is kind of easy because missiles will lock on them, but for actual players you have to aim, so unless they're in a helicopter your chances are super slim.

Yes. My first session last night I was taken out by a jet in freeroam. I took a helicopter from the airport and made way to the military base to look for one, but did not see one that was spawned (it may have already been taken).

They have stealth technology on them or something... even when you parachute in you can't really see them till you're right on top of them. There's two that I go for that are right to the North of the big landing strip near the East end where the smaller tower is.

This is me too. The last 2-3 checkpoints around the landing zone is what threw me off. I should mention that I always got at least a silver, but I was going for gold.Took me 2 tries.I think it took me about 12-15 tries to beat that helicopter mission in Flight School. Is that high or low?
I'll likely be on tonight. Xbox side.

I'm starting to get a little bored with online. Mostly because I never see you guys around and it's been a pain to get jobs lately.
So last night I went back to story mode by quick switching to Trevor.
I find him standing over a bridge with a guy pressed over his head. He screams, "If you want to learn fly, you have to get thrown from the nest!"
Then he tosses the guy into the Los Santoes "river."
SPLAT.

Thank you for this. I was thinking about buying an apartment too, but you talked me out of it.I don't think you can save aircraft. That's why I like sandy shores for garage location. All 3 properties there are close to an airfield with a leveled plane and helicopter for free. At level 20 they put the chinook there which can lead to some super high comedy with the tow hook.So, lets talk about that stimulus money.
Is the 400K apartment the top spot? Or as you reach higher levels, do other places open up?
Beyond that, can you ever get a Helipad or a Hanger? The attack chopper is 1.5M, so this would put you a 1/3 of the way there. That would be pretty bad ###. Or buying a hanger and then stealing the jet and parking it there so you keep it, that would also be most excellent. Who needs Top Fun when you can just do it on the regular map?
I'm only level 7, so I'm not sure what opens up later on. High level dudes, fill us in.
Oh, and FYI, if you do the races, set the laps to 1 if you're trying to farm money and RP. Goes faster
People will also abandon personal cars there which you can pickup and drop in the ocean.
The money imo needs to be saved for gun and car upgrades. SMG with supressor, scope, extended clip alone is nearly 100k. Outfitting the AK with the same is closer to 175k.
Anyone that blows this cash on a useless apartment is going to regret it when they level up enough to upgrade weapons and cars which are expensive as hell.

Made the mistake of not paying attention when I switched to Trevor from Franklin last night (playing while watching the Tiger Game). He spawned flying a sweet plane that, I assume, I could have put in the hanger and kept (this is after beating the game). Great online tip -
I just played the survival job in the desert (looks like an airplane scrapyard). If you get a team of 4 people who work together to cover all the angles, you can make lots of money.
All the ammo and armor drops in the mission, so don't buy ammo or armor beforehand.
If you make it through 10 waves, you get $20K but more importantly, should come out with a crapload of guns and ammo - stuff that isn't unlocked yet. I'm rank 18 and I got a minigun, combat machine gun, advanced rifle, grenades, sticky bombs, and a crapload of ammo for my SMG and shotgun.
I played 4 times with the same group. We made it to at least wave 7 each time, and finished it (wave 10) once, and I hauled in over $40K + all those guns.
Plus it's loads of fun. Much more fun than races.

That's weird.. we played a bunch of survival recently and all the guns I obtained weren't kept when back in freeplay mode. Are you sure it let you keep them? Seems like everyone would be rolling around with miniguns already if it were that easy to obtain them.

Yeah, I do wonder how long the staying power for online will be.
If you roll into online without anyone in your crew it is a pretty rough place to be. The missions quit coming so frequently after about level 15 so there is a lot of standing around with your thumb up your ### if you are solo. You can't just walkthrough all the missions with randoms as they are usually A)Braindead or B)Broke so they have no ammo.
So that leaves you with doing races or TDM as they are the only lobbies that fill up. Being out in freeroam is really only a periodic thing that is done to mainly kill time and do funny #### with the cargobob, imo.

I think they stay for that session. But I know you get to keep them for awhile as I was sporting the advanced riffle last night, and the terminator gun (the gatling one that cuts through helicopters like a hot knife through buttah)... I remember joining another survival after I had the hardware and noticing that I couldn't use it before the wave that it came from... which I thought was kind of silly. This is something they'll probably patch with the next update.

You can get a mission anytime you want by calling Lester, Ron, Martin or Gerald with your phone and asking for one.

Yeah, but doing most of them past the low level ones solo is not super fun. Then you die and get no cash and no xp for 5-10 min of work.

Ah, solo? Yea, I agree they're not super fun alone. I haven't found it that difficult to find people to play with, but there are times when noone wants to join. You can randomly join other people's missions too from the quick job menu on the phone. Guaranteed to be at least one other person then.
