I have a different opinion - I think it is getting worse while the story broadens to be able to sustain multiple seasons. I enjoyed the early shows which were more focused on the story of revenge - now the story has broadened and it's less interesting. Not interested in the church guy's story or the boss's story.
I would like to see more of the political side of the story. The Credit Mobilier scandal went all the way up to the presidency.
That was cool, kind of like Boardwalk Empire's tie in to the crooked Harding administration.

If that was all this show was going to be about it would have been one and done since there is only one or two left to get revenge on.. VERY glad they changed directions.. He can still get his revenge at some point.. But there had to be more to the show then just that or it would have become a  show.Loving the battle between him and "The Norwegian" (Can't call him Swede no more ;) ) and the storyline that should produce

:goodposting: I like the Bohanan revenge storyline but that would be way too narrow a focus to sustain the show. I love the boss and old preacher (he was good in Damages too!)storylines. I want to know more about the chef. What does he have two of?

"hey wait a minute, had I has known that was all I had to do to bed a white woman, I would have killed all of my brothers by now"

Writers kind of annoyed me tonight. Another impossible predicament for Bohannon.

First he escapes hanging to convince Durant to make him forman

Then he frees Elam and becomes a fugitive, only to go runnuing to Durant

Now this

Add that in with how much time he spends away from his crew and this guys is like Constanza who couldn't get fired by Steinbrenner, no matter what he did.

Love the show, though.

 that was one Graphic episode and well done!! The previews for the finale look great!
Old preacher man. I really wish there were more than just one episode left. It's hit such a good stride the past 4 or 5 episodes that I'm really going to miss it.

After watching the entire season, it was alright. I'll watch the 2nd season because I like westerns, but My link touches really well on the shows big flaws. There are so many happenings that seem to be too big of convenience to keep the story moving. Also, the Indians, especially the immediate family of Black Moon, were really underdeveloped. His killing his brother should have felt like a bigger moment, but it wasn't because there was such little development of the character and their history.

I really liked how the show progress but I gotta say I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the season finale. Was like the writers were still hungover from the renewal party and mailed this one in.

I thought the finale was really good. It wrapped up some storylines and set up the second season very well. Some funny stuff when Bohanan goes to the preacher. It's no Deadwood yet but I really don't have too much to complain about.

Agreed - the most compelling story is Bohanon's regarding revenege. The turn of the Swede into a weaker version came out of left field. One minute he wants to kill him and the next he's weak and pleading with the boss to believe him that Bohanon is a murderer.

The Swede turning happened way too fast. They missed out on a lot of good story and tension. It was like within 1 episode we went from thinking the Swede was a total BMF to seeing him as nothing but a whipping boy (literally and figuratively). The only story that I am really into is with Thomas Durant and the blonde. Maybe it is because I like history, but the building of the transcontinental railroad is interesting to me. Half way in, I almost forgot Bohannon was looking for revenge and was never really sure exactly who he was looking for or how many people were left. I liked Common's character a lot- especially the flashback as a kid with him reading the Bible to the white people and pretending his couldn't understand it. However, they killed a lot of that momentum with that stupid boxing match. I do look forward to see what he does next season.

Interesting note though, the season finale had great ratings and it was AMC's 2nd highest rated show behind the Walking Dead.

I set the DVR...now I am just trying to remember what was happening at the end of S1. I might have to go back and watch the last couple episodes on Netflix (I noticed S1 is now available streaming).

Bohannin (sp?) quit and was riding off into the sunset, oddest ending I've seen in a while.

I had the marathon on all day...wasn't paying close attention most of the time so I only know about half of what is going on. It's OK I guess

Episode 1 of season too was way weak. Seemed like the show is lacking direction and creating storylines to fill the void. I almost deleted the series recording from the DVR. Maybe another episode. What is going on now is not interesting.

This is pretty much how S1 was. Seemed like they started pulling it together towards the end of the season. I haven't watched the new episode yet, but if it feels too much like the majority of season 1, then I think I'll be done with the show.

Actually...Bohannon finds and kills Sgt. Harper - kills him with his bare hands. Only then does he find out that he's killed the wrong man. After Bohannon kills Harper, he finally shows up at the dance, where he sees Lilly Bell dancing with his boss and nemesis Durant (as she constantly looks over Durant's shoulder, searching for Bohannon). Thinking there's nothing left for him in camp, Bohannon goes on the run, ahead of the US Marshals.

Last night? not very good.I am done.
wow, really?I loved it.
I thought the storylines were contrived and not that good. The whole Bohanon the train robber - to jail and the firing squad - the stereotypical tough guy at that water trough - and somehow the train boss decides to save him.Or the train boss and the lady shacking up.Or more mishandling of the Swede - who was a great character for most of season 1Or one of the showman brothers is a killer - out of the blue. And the whole revenge story - which was the most interesting story - has been flushed down the drain.

I think it is a good begining for season two so far. I have really enjoyed it up to this point. I think the Swede isn't done yet. He has pretty much hit the bottom for him. I'm sure it will get much more interesting between him and Bohanin. That look between the two at the end of the last episode tells me there is more to come.

The Swede hanging with the drunken preacher has potential too. I like what they've done with him. He's gonna come back with a vengeance.

Liked the last one a lot more than the first one. Just started watching another new series set in 1864 England called Copper. If Hell On Wheels doesn't pan out I got a fall back.

yeah watched that too (started a thread) Pretty good start although the settings seem a little claustrophobic and dark.and it's NY, not England.

I want to like this more and I should like it more (always been a big western fan), but for some reason I'm just not into it that much. I don't dislike it, but am just kind of "meh". I can't even put my finger on why it's not grabbing me.

lack of a strong directionthere are some decent enough narratives, but no exceptionally strong and compelling ones.

Bohannon keeps flipping from the revenge storyline to the good boss/hero storyline back to the revenge/villain storylinr back to the boss storyline

How many times can this guy be on the verge of being hanged before the writers walk it back?

The swede riches to rags an (possibly) back to riches storyline has potential.

We are still loving the show.. It is the only show on right now where all 3 of us stop everything we are doing so we can get the  ready.

I just started watching this show two weeks ago. I like it so far. Common got knocked the #### out. Lot's of violence in this show.

The Irish guys feeding the pigs was a trip.

I keep thinking that I missed something on this show, but I am pretty sure that I have seen most of the episodes. There is something about the storyline I don't follow, or am not interested in enough to pay attention to or something like that.

 I keep waiting for this show to put it all together, but it's just all over the place. Never really grabs me.

my biggest issue is that potentially interesting plotlines get wrapped up too quickly and neatly.

My suggestion for the writers is to let some of this stuff linger. Build some more tension, create that house of cards.

Still lovin' the Swede...great character.

I think they might be putting it together. I agree that it's been all over the place at times.

But some shows start that way before they find their direction and go on to be great shows ("Justified" comes to mind).

It appears they've ditched the revenge storyline, which is good. I think that was really holding the show back from making us care about the rest of the characters and the village itself.

I wasn't really looking forward to the start of S2 (took me 2 weeks to get around to watching the premiere), but it's now inching up the must-watch list.
