John Clayton did a clip where he says Johnny will likely be gone next year, trade him for a 5th or 6th rounder, maybe to Dallas and then Browns will draft a qb in round 1
if Petine is gone, Manziel is gone. You're not bringing in a top coaching candidate telling him he's saddled with Manziel as his QB. No one wants to deal with that sideshow. Not for such minimal production.
I disagree.
You give the coach the ball here. He can watch tapes, talk to Manziel, talk to his friends on the team, find out facts and let the new coach decide.
New coach is hired soon, draft is 4-5 months away. There's time.
With the "new" contract system, Manziel doesn't affect the cap too much so he won't matter to the GM too too much initially.
The Browns have a top(ish) pick so they will evaluate all QBs anyway. The coach taking time to evaluate Manziel, won't affect much.
What usually happens is like the Mariota Mettenberger controversy that wasn't. Whis about fell in love with Mariota.
Let's see Goff and whomever else the new Browns coach talks to.
Don't they coach in the senior bowl against Titans coaches? That's invaluable exposure to the college kids.
The only immediate thing is getting a coach. After, it should be his call. McCown is still a decent solid NFL veteran. They should be covered if they make a poor decision or even if they want some new rook to sit a year and axe Manziel.
The Browns have 8000 players to evaluate, the QB is one of a zillion issues on that team. Tom Brady wasn't winning the Supe there, let's not act like Manziel was the make or break toward a ring.
I think some of their WRs were more opportunistic than good. They're about to lose a right tackle in FA IIRC and maybe their C. 7 (?) picks might not be enough to fill all the holes. It's much more than just Manziel
