He's 21...and yes he's done some dooshy things. I think many people believe he can grow up and has started to.
On the other hand, I don't ever see Cam becoming like able.

I don't mind Manziel's personality that much. Sure he's a bit of a dbag but on Gruden's QB Camp he seemed like a decent kid.
Besides injury, the concern for me is how he handles adversity in the NFL. He's went his whole life without much of it.

No link but has been noted a few times on today's Browns Daily radio program that QB Brian Hoyer is way out in front of all of the QBs on the first day of mandatory mini-camp.
They kept mentioning that they saw Hoyer's ability to throw-open receivers by anticipating the breaks. They see Manziel proccessing and waiting for the WRs to make their break before throwing.
HC Mike Pettine was interviewed and they asked about that observation and Pettine confirmed that Hoyer has that skill of anticipating the WR break and getting the ball out quicker than any of the other QBs.
So right now, no surprise that on the first day of mandatory mini-camp where we get to see the rookies side-by-side with the vets that Browns veteran starting QB Brian Hoyer is clearly in the lead out in front of rookie QB Johnny Manziel from recent reports and confirmed by Browns head coach Mike Pettine.

The local media is starting to think the Johnny Manziel show should tone-it-down.
May Kay Cabot mentions the ESPN story where Manziel was asked to attend alchohol counseling by his Texas A & M coaches AND his parents where Johnny did go to counseling and attended nearly a dozeon sessions so she is starting to get a tad concerned over the recent incidents where alchohol was involved.
She doesn't agree with the Browns current stance of telling Manziel to go and have fun.
She may have a point.

yeah sortof but not really. One is illegal and the other isnt but both are problems from an NFL standpoint.
Not when the guy who wrote that article has also wrote an article and appeared on talk shows in the past few weeks criticizing the NFL's marijuana policy.
To me, the biggest difference is that one you can get suspended for and the other you can not (at least not yet). Manziel may not seem like the brightest bulb in the box for jumping on an inflated swan with a champagne bottle in hand, but there are no rules in the NFL rulebook that says he will get suspended if he does. That is a pretty big difference to Gordon's issue. I think it is arguable as to which one is worse from any other perspective, but from the NFL rules, one clearly is worse than the other in terms of what can happen to the player when they get caught doing it.

Going to Vegas with hot chicks on your off days is a problem for the NFL? What has Manziel possibly done that you think he is a problem for the NFL? Rubbed his fingers together on camera? Been followed by paparazzi? Not one thing.... aside from selling a metric crap ton of season tickets and jerseys.

WEEK ONE: The first weekend off from rookie mini-camp Johnny went to Pettine and told him he was going to Vegas and Mike told him to have fun. TMZ pool party photos of Johnny drinking with bikni babes.
WEEK TWO: Next week after OTAs Johnny came to Mike and told him he was going to LA. Mike told him he didn't have to come to him and tell him what he does in his off-time. TMZ photos pool party bikini babes drinking with Gronk.
WEEK THREE: Third week. Johnny didn't report to Pettine what he was doing. The media went to Pettine and asked him and he told the media he's not going to micro-mange Manziel. TMZ photos of Johnny riding a swan drinking from a champagne botttle.
You are right, the team has no say in what Maniel does but they do have control on whether to tell him to have a good time and if his college coaches and even his family approached him and asked him to attend alchohol counseling they have the right to ask him to tone down the TMZ public partying if they feel uncomfortable about whether this could escalate and turn into an issue.
Johnny will still do what he wants but they have control over what they say and the message to this point to him is have fun and the message the've given to the media is we won't micro-manage him.
Asking him to tone it down isn't micro-managing or even telling him to not have fun but three weeks in a row landing on TMZ opens up the possibility that they can gently tell him to tone it down or the vets in the locker room can handle it and they don't have to go Incognicto on him, they can just tell him that the best NFL QBs don't handle themselves publically the way he does and they hope he can keep out of TMZ and maybe cut down on the alchohol.

Sig put out a tweet today that the Browns OC Kyle Shanahan is installing some packages that seem tailor-made for Manziel's skill set.
I'm sure Sig thinks, aha they are installing Johnny Manziel packages. Yeah but having these packages and maybe breaking one out during the preseason forces any defense in the regular season to prepare for them especially if its used in some sort of sub goal line package that could be used on a team who has bigger slower perimeter players out on the edge who would be vulnerable to defending the zone read option or pistol.

From an NFL standpoint I doubt any team wants to see any of that from its Franchise QB. The drinking is absolutely an issue and thinking otherwise is just silly. Now like I said, legally compared to Gordon he is in the clear, from a straight NFL standpoint all things are equal. No team wants to deal with what Johnny football is doing.

What can you point to in his productivity that would in any way make you think it is an issue at all?
There is nothing he can do to keep TMZ out of his life. Everything he does is scrutinized.
This is how Gronk has basically been living his life for the past few off-seasons and he's played pretty well and I've yet to hear NE telling him he needs to tone it down.
In about a month he'll be living in Ohio for the next half a year at least and staying pretty busy. Not trying to knock Cleveland but a lot of these entertainment options he's in the news for right now won't be available to him in a month. These things usually work themselves out when camp/season starts.
I think Pettine and Cleveland are both handling it the way they should. What would blow this thing up and make it ugly was if it was reported that Cleveland was in fact trying to micro-manage him and JFF was basically blowing them off. That would make his partying an even bigger story than it already has become if he was doing it despite requests by the Browns to stop.
And back to my point Cleveland has no leverage to dictate what he does in this free time, which I know you did not disagree with. But a few things to consider:
*I'd guess starting as soon as this season JFF makes more money with off the field endorsements then he's going to make on his rookie contract. So in that respect staying in the news, staying relevant, it's good for JFF's bottom line. Of course if it costs him playing time that's a different story and really that's the only leverage Cleveland has on him.
*If Cleveland tires of his antics by the time next off-season concludes I don't think cutting him is even a credible threat to him. Unless he epically face plants on the field he could probably make a lot more money as a FA then what he'll be making on his rookie deal.
So this is kind of what I mean when I say they not only can't tell him what to do but they don't have any real leverage other than toying with his playing time next season. Not saying he would not tone it down if they asked, just pointing out he's got a lot of room to tell them thanks but no thanks for the suggestion.

TMZ looks for a hook or they have nothing. So far they have nothing other than Johnny having fun but he can have fun in a way that doesn't give them a hook.
If his college coaches and his family felt he needed to seek alchohol couseling then I defer to their judgement on whether or not drinking 'could' become an issue for Johnny.
No top NFL QB is TMZ fodder and no NFL QB is viewed drinking and partying three weeks in a row as Manziel's first three weeks in the league have gone down. Begs the question of how the rest of the year and then what is going to be the story in the offseason etc.
But lets cut through the crap. Johnny Manziel is media/marketing saavy. He KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. When Paris Hilton shows up at a club and climbs out of a car with her crotch showing and then dances on a table and their JUST-SO-HAPPEN to be 50 paparazzi who show up in the club with cameras as she flashes her 'nonnie' to em she is paid tens of thousands of dollars especially if she drags along Lohann and other B-Grade listers. The club tips off the paparazzi or Hilton's PR team does and the club PAYS the B-listers to show up with the sole intention of getting the name of that club into the pappers/magazine/TV/calbe/Twitter/web sites. Its a well-known gimmic that everyone knows about but the sheeople who buy it hook-line-and-sinker. Oh their is that Paris Hilton girl she doesn't even realize he crotch is showing. Look she's dancing on a table and her ### is hanging out. What a dummie, what a bimbo. Yeah, that bimbo is laughing all the way to the bank, same with Lohann, same with tons of others who play similiar games. Now its happening with 'hot' atheletes who have tons of social media followers.
If a Hilton or Lohann or other B-Lister shows up in a highly publicized media circus like that the odds are that they'll never show up to that club again but it doesn't matter because the press release is pre-writtern of whatever B-Lister (punch in any name here) showing up to the 'hottest new Hollywood club' acting outrageoous, doing seen talking to-so blah blah blah. People fall for that crap every time. The web hits alone of Lohann's crotch are guaranteed to click in at millions.
You might think that Johnny Manziel isn't on par with that but John McClain said that he put out one word on Twitter and got over 100,000 clicks. That one word? MANZIEL.
So don't fool yerself on what Johnny Manziel is or what his handlers are doing. On one hand, he is a legit NFL QB prospect that has to keep a handle on his bidnezz and if he wants to be a top caliber NFL starting QB he better get a handle on the other part of who he is and that is JOHHNY FOOTBALL. That is the brand that his handlers are crafting and they are doing a damn good job.
People think he's just a kid having fun. Yup but its highly marketed stuff and the club knows what he is all about. They don't want to kill johnny football tm because they also want to cash in on that but first the kid has to establish himself as a legit starting NFL QB and if he wants to truly be one of the best he's got to act like one of the best and you don't see the best three weeks in a row splashed accross TMZ. As a Browns fan I don't give a flying F' about anything other than Johnny becoming the best NFL QB he can be so I want him to tone it down and I don't want alchohol to become a problem.
That isn't asking too much.

Here is another link to how Manziel tried to deflect answering questions about those counseling sessions at Texas A & M when he was at the Combine and was asked about alchohol and anger management couseling that he recieved. He denied the reports but then confirms that he went to couseling for years at the request of his coach.

Browns have given 'the talk' to the entire team, not just Manziel but they have publically given a warning to stay out of trouble during the break from the recent mandatory mini-camp to the start of training camp in late July.
The rookies still have a week of the NFL rookie symposium but after that they are on their own for over a month.

I guess I am still missing the connection here.
Why did the ESPN article think he needs counseling.. was it an event we don't know about or was it a publicity move to appease naysayers hating on his "image"? Surely hanging out with Drake isn't that traumatic? Under age drinking.. maybe. What was it? A lot of assumptions being made here.
We sure as hell aren't hearing any such thing from his current coaches and teammates.

You haven't put much effort or you could have looked up and simply clicked on the interview because you've got the wrong assumption by asking why ESPN thought he 'should' seek counseling when they reported he was asked by both his family and coaches to attend counseling sessions and by his own admission he attended for years so you've shown incredible laziness by not doing the bare minimum of looking up or clicking on the audio podcast or simply reading the article I linked.matuski said:
