Life Without the Little Ticket
So at the end of January I took a new job, leaving behind a company where I had all the Ticket and Internet I could want, but a crappy job with worse co-workers/management. I knew that my new job would not have Internet, but I also knew I would be in a dark lab most of the day by myself and figured that I could console myself with uninterrupted segment burning at 1310 Ticket Sports. I was wrong.
My lab gets zero AM reception, and so that along with my short commute, I now get 2.5 segments a day. The 6:50 segment, half of Muse in the News and the 5:10 Hardline segment. While I miss the station, esp Bob and Dan, my real problem is with FM radio. 7 weeks in and I'm completely bored with it.
Here are the stations I have been listening (with comments):
90.1 - NPR - makes me feel smart when I listen, can be interesting alot of the time, but they spend too much time kicking Bush in the balls, even for my liberal ####.
100.3 - JACK FM - nice collection of music, the lack of DJs is nice, but I have a strict No Nickelback rule and they violate it often.
102.1 - The Edge - the type of music I like most, when they finally get around to it. I will not listen to Lex and Terry, so they are out of rotation until after 10:00. While they also break the No Nickelback rule, they also force the When I Hear A Repeat Song I Hit The Dial response. It's amazing how we have over 20 years of "alternative rock" and yet we can't go 4 hours with out a repeat.
102.9 - The Mix - Pretty much JACK with DJs and a smaller playlist. Also a frequent violator of the No Nickelback rule.
105.3 - LIVE FM - "Alternative Talk". Love the Jagger Show, love Pugs and Kelly, refuse to listen to Russ Martin. This station could fill 7 hours of my day with Jagger and P&K, but the problem is that I do get visitors into my lab and I really don't need them walking in while the radio is talking about boob jobs on teens or in station booty calls.
106.1 - KISS FM - Won't listen to Kidd, will listen occasionally to hear what is "new with the kids", but I have to tune out after consecutive rap songs. Also a violator of the No Nickelback rule (Are these ####ers everywhere?)
All in all, FM radio in this town SUCKS!!!
So there. Not sure why I felt the need to share, but it feels good to get it out there.
The solution will be to go this weekend and get portable speakers for my iPod and make my own stations.
