What an obscure, genius reference.
He should have worked in Joe Papaleo or Kevin "the smudger" Smith
My brother was coached by both.
I played in a game against a team coached by Kris Sobieski when I was clubbing as a high schooler :goodposting:
Oddly, my niece is now coached by Sobieski. He's got the cancer. :(

For those scoring at home on the football field Jason Witten ==========>Dan Cambell. On the radio Dan Cambell===============>Jason Witten.
I have a funny story about Dan Campbell that's probably not FBG-safe, but I'll go with it anyway.A friend of mine, a dirty Aggie, was out one night and, through another friend who's pretty connected with boosters, athletics, etc., Dan Campbell went out with them (probably to the Tap). At one point during the night, they're all sitting at a bar table with some chicks. Dan says to my friend, "Nigelfriend, look under the table." He does and sees that Dan Campbell, future Cowboy/Lion tight end is digitally manipulating the girl sitting next to him.
I sat next to him one semester in Rhet/Comp. Nice guy. He seemed pretty shy as a freshman, though.

That's a shame. The guy had a hell of a kicksave.

Pretty sure it's a fairly serious kind, but he's doing well right now, I think.

Anyone else notice the lack of Greggo Drops, especially today. Rhyner basically called for Hazmat uniform but then quickly tried to gloss over it.

DALLAS — As reported by UP, 97.1-FM returned to a hard-rock format, as of Tuesday morning.

"We did launch the Eagle at 10 a.m. this morning," says Clear Channel marketing manager J.D. Freeman. "The Eagle left the airwaves on May 18, 2004, and now we have returned to the rock format.

"It's on, it's going, it's rock. We're playing Ozzy, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Metallica. We're calling it a "heritage" rock station -- not classic rock. It's gonna be some new and old, but primarily rock and roll."

The station, which had recently been playing Christmas music, previously had a Spanish-language format, called La Preciosa; that Web site says, "We are OFFLINE for now, Please check back again later."

For now, the station is just running music, but Freeman says they'll be adding personalities in January.

Did anyone else catch when they rolled screenless last week for one call and the caller said,

"WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO TELL US WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO GREGGO??"

I found it amusing. I guess there are no new updates on this?

:ptts:yeah, this seems to happen every time they roll screenless. during the talk about the steroid list, one guy called in and asked if greggo was on it.

If they bring back Greggo after this long hiatus with utter and complete silence I may have to switch to ESPN. At this point I would be happy just to never hear the name Greg on the station again. I'm sure there are legal implications that they are dealing with but to leave listeners in the dark this long is ridiculous. Now if we could only get Mike to follow the same route.

This sucks. I hope this is just temporary until they reach a settlement with Greggo. If I never get to hear "Ummm...Do you like this gig?" again I'll be very sad :goodposting:

Most of the Greggo drops are off the drop page. The only thing with himactually talking is the aveda bit

This feels like the last nail in the coffin for the Hammer. They have almost a full ratings period without him, and maybe feel like the Rhyner/Cobra/Danny trio can work, for at least a while. I still think the station needs a shakeup from top to bottom, but I'm sure the ratings books are telling them they are doing just fine. What the hell does Greggo do without the Ticket? He can't go back to bartending can he? He can't go back to Six Flags, and I doubt he could go back and pull tape for WBAP. That wraps up about every job he has had right?I think this is a case where he ends up being a sports yuck monkey for some FM gig in a smaller market, and he will kick his own ### everyday realizing what he gave up.

Greggo's Gone for Good. But to Where?

Thu Dec 20, 2007 at 11:12:04 AM

Greggo, at right, is gone -- even his drops have been adiosed, alas.If you’re a listener of KTCK-AM (1310, The Ticket) -- and judging from my saturated e-mail inbox and your comments, you most certainly are -- this week you’ve heard a subtle, yet significant change. Or maybe you haven’t heard it. And that’s the point.

As the latest step in the messy divorce between former host Greg Williams and The Hardline, the Hammer’s attorneys have slapped the station with a nice little cease and desist. (Remind me some day to tell you about the time I got one from baseball super-agent Scott Boras. The things are nasty.) What's it mean?

Firstly, as I wrote recently, it’s a done deal that Williams has uttered his last back-porch country witticism on the station. Secondly, The Ticket can no longer use Williams’ name on the air. No more of his commercial spots. No more mentioning his name during a segment. No more -- God help us -- Greggo drops.

Sad that our area’s most innovative and addicting sports talk show had to end. Even sadder that it has to end like this. Williams, as detailed last month, recently lost a battle to drug addiction. With his Ticket bridges burned and nothing left but to negotiate a contract buyout, Hammer is already willing and able to move on.

Radio industry sources told me this week that Williams met with ESPN's local radio affiliate and is also involved in preliminary talks with Live 105.3 FM about an on-air role, possibly hosting his own show.

Couple of hurdles: Hammer would have to convince The Ticket to waive the “non-compete” clause in his contract in order to work in this market this soon. And ESPN -- despite being in all sorts of upheaval -- apparently said, “No thanks.”

While Hammer searches for a new gig, and Hardline-er Mike Rhyner searches for a new sidekick, one thing’s for sure: Dallas sports talk radio will sound much different in 2008. Too early to tell exactly what it’ll all mean. The smart money says Hammer will miss The Ticket much more than The Ticket will miss the Hammer. Right? Not that station-wide, small-picture trend numbers are definitive, but in Arbitron radio ratings released Tuesday, The Ticket dipped from a 3.0 to a 2.8 in the Fall 2 period for listeners 12-and-up, while ESPN surged from 1.4 to 1.9. Are those tweaks due to the start of the Mavs’ season on ESPN, the end of The Hammer Era on The Ticket or neither? Since you can no longer stay hard, stay tuned. --Richie Whitt

No, the cowboys are playing. ESPN only has content to support wall to wall sports in football season.

Hammer was the best thing going on the ticket.
I think I'm in the "don't know what you've got 'til it's gone" camp. I haven't been a fan of his for a while, but now I miss him, mostly for his unintentional humor, though, which is kind of selfish of me.

Listening to Rhyner's daughter makes me want to Helen Keller myself. Hearing "Doddy" and "like" and "yah" 8000 times in a segment is killer.

Is she even cute?

The only picture I found on the web (of she and her mother) had her as a 4-eyed blur in the background. I figured there was a reason.

I have no interest in getting bogged down in the Shark Pool or the FFA talking football.

What are the thoughts here about the chances of getting anywhere with this team? And what the hell has been going on the last month or so? If Green Bay was the super bowl then I'm terrified.

Only three possibilities for next week

Gints - Eli on the road is always something I'd welcome. I just fear we can't score enough to keep up.

Tampa - Came out of the most craptastic division in the NFC I think. Would love to see this team the most of all. Plus I think it's always better to play teams you haven't seen in the regular season especially when you have our "pro bowl" secondary.

Washington - Doesn't scare me a bit. I really think they didn't want to give them any tape to work off of at all. I realize if Washington wins they are coming to Dallas, but the odds of them going 4 timezones over to Seattle and winning there are absurd.

The severity of the TO injury sure looks like it should derail this thing fast though. Glenn looked awful yesterday. No way he can contribute.

If TO doesn't play, I think we're in deep ####, no matter who we face.

The last truly meaningful game we had was the GB game. I think they kind of stopped playing inspired since then. I have no worries though, they will turn that switch back on in a couple of weeks. The only team I worry about playing are the Giants and Pack. The Giants looked really good against the Pats and it is so hard to beat a team 3 times in a row in the NFL. I think the Giants beat the Bucs and the Skins beat the Seahawks, giving us a GB vs NYG and WAS vs DAL second round. I see us pounding the skins for some revenge. The NFC championship, whether it be GB or NYG is going to be a nail biter.

BTW, anybody like the shtick-barrage that is Ben and Skin? I actually do.
I really dig Ben and Skin. I hope they find a permanent spot in the rotation. Their shtick is high quality, a nice combo of uncomfortable comments skimmed over and inside-joke buddy talk, but what gets hidden is that outside of Bob and Norm, they can out-sports anyone at the station. The segments they have had this week on the health of the Cowboy franchise (Salary cap situation, draft situation, age, etc) has made my sports-talk pants fly off.

I agree here. For one, I think TO is going to be fine. 24 hours a day in a hyperbaric chamber for the next two weeks should do the trick. And I believe in the Jedi Master and Yoda Garrett. No matter who they face in two weeks, the gameplan will be aggressive and should take advantage of a tired team traveling on the road. And I think once they win that first game, Romo gets the "playoff failure" chip off his shoulder and buries the last decade of Dallas futility, then they very well could roll in the NFC title game.

I miss the greggo drops

During Muse this morning Gordo was repeatedly referencing the #1 cop and asked if someone else had the intellectual property of that

I guess the fake greggo is off limits as well?

Yeah, I heard that. I would think that Fake Greggo is 100% off limits.

Yeah, I heard that. I would think that Fake Greggo is 100% off limits.
That's really too bad
Yep. I bet they tried to negotiate hard for that and the drops.
Meh, he and the drops will be soon forgotten.

Something tells me they'll legally be able to use the drops and do the impersonations after the dispute clears up. IA-just-A-law-student, but i don't think public figures can keep the media from using their image or parodying them as long as the statements being made by the media are knowingly false and injurious. Doesn't seem like Greggo would be able to keep the station from using his drops and impersonating him, but I would imagine the other guys would avoid referencing him as it would likely come across as just plain mean, rather than the usual nut-kicking between friends dynamic that makes the station so great.
