wtf is Vigneault doing, leave the top unit out there.  they give this group no respect and they can't deal with the pressure.

Calling it the way that I see it. Am I wrong?
You are 100% correct. No amount of criticism of the Pens play in game 6 could capture how horrible they were. That was one of the worst performances I've seen from the Pens. Coupled with the skill and desire of the Caps and the rout was on. The Pens have been outplayed just about every period of this series but to their credit they stepped up for short bursts of offense and Fleury has been great as they built the 3-1 lead. They could certainly win tonight but the Caps do look like the better team.

Well, that sucked. At least the issues that plagued the Rangers all year didn't hide in this series. Props to Ottawa, they impressed me very much over the last two games.

Stepan, Hayes, and Miller can die of gonorrhea and rot in hell.

I didn't have much faith in the Rangers heading into the playoffs but I thought they would have beaten the Sens. Good job by them shutting the Rangers down. They've had something missing all year and I have to think there are some leadership issues. McDonagh is not a rah-rah guy but there's no one there to motivate them. When they get down, they're out. Some restructuring is in order, imo.

Disappointed the most in Hayes. Completely invisible.

Optimistic about tonight, but the Pens main strength (D-men moving the puck into the offensive zone) was seriously hurt by Letang being out, and now Daley, and it has really shown.  Maata is over-rated imo, and the rest of the defense do not move the puck all that well.  The few left that do, you can tell are playing injured (Dumoulin). I think the hits that the team has taken over the last two series are catching up to them. Hits being both by the opposing team and the blocked shots as well.  Why am I optimistic?  Because of Sullivan.  I think he can set a new game plan that will allow the Pens more shots and offensive zone time. He has showed that in the past, and I think he will show that tonight.  Should be fun.  Let's go Pens!

exactly.  Senators deserved to win the series.  Rangers need to be blown up.

I've loved Stepan for a long time, but what good is a top 6 center who can't win a draw and can't score a goal.  Hayes still has some trade value, so let's send him off too.  I mean the guy is 6'5" 225 and plays softest on the team.  We already had Boyle on the team once before, but at least he was a bottom 6 guy.

Hopefully Girardi and/or Staal showed well enough that they are plucked off in the expansion draft.  Time to get rid of some dead weight ASAP.  Years past, Rangers had excuses with injuries to key guys in the playoffs, McDonagh, Zuuc.  This year they were completely healthy and just sucked.  Kreider shows up for one period a night.  Nash was decent enough, but how much is left in the tank there.  Window is about to close with #30 in net.  Only guys that pulled their weight all series long were Glass, Lindberg and Fast and those guys are not 20+ goal guys by any means.

I'm not ready to cut bait on Miller yet though.  He was getting thrown around on other lines.  He generally plays hard and shows up.  Unlike some others.  Vessey was another disappointment, but he's too young to give up on.

Honestly, may be time to get rid of AV too.  I like him as a coach, but I'm really not sure he has what it takes to get the team over the top.  So annoyed.

it's amazing how many times the Pens have been a lock to win and zero chance in less than two weeks.  it's almost as if Pens fan overreacts to every shift.  also, intangibles.

Every time I saw him playing at the left circle on the PP I wanted to blow my brains out. 1) He refuses to shoot. 2) When he does shoot, it takes him FOREVER to be decisive and get his shot off. It makes zero sense to play him on the side where he can't at least get off a one-timer.

Girardi and Staal both have no trades so they have to be protected in the draft. You can try and convince Vegas to take either one in a trade though if you make it worth it to them. While Staal would have to waive, Girardi's turns into a partial no trade after July 1 so you can move him to certain teams.

Here's my quick re-tool plan:

  • AV out. The stubborn insistence on playing certain guys over others who are clearly more talented/reliable is such an enormous red flag to me. Add in the inability to get an effective PP going and I agree with the "never get them over the top" stance.
  • Buyout Staal if you can't move him with assets. From what I've read, they can afford the dragged out hit.
  • They'll hope to sign Shattenkirk. I am not 100% sold on him, especially with the price, but it just seems like this is the inevitable move so it has to be incorporated into the plan.
  • If they don't sign him, or a comparable guy who can fill that 1RD/PP QB slot, move Hayes for a poor man's version. Maybe someone more comfortable playing in the second pairing defensively but with top PP line offensive/possession skills.
  • If Shattenkirk signs, I'd package Hayes with Girardi as an incentive to take that contract. Otherwise, Girardi hasn't been that awful once healthy where he can work in as the last d-man.
  • Re-sign Brendan Smith
  • Trade Raanta for an asset instead of losing him for nothing in the expansion draft. They've had good luck in filling out the backup spot and there is some decent talent in the pipeline.
  • Consider moving Grabner in the right deal. This was an outlier year for him so expectations should be tempered for next season anyway. But this year's production and his nothing salary should make him fairly attractive.
They've done a lot with changing over the defense through the minors/FA signings. Some of those guys aren't quite ready but they need to do what is necessary to fill out the big club defense to better match what is needed in today's NHL. McD/Shattenkirk/Smith/Skjei woudl be a legit top 4 and with some decent depth added this team can be right back as a top contender quickly.

I woke up to a picture of my two year old grand daughter in her Ducks jersey. She insisted on wearing it today and has no clue that there is a Game 7. She's never worn it before.  I'm all in.

good breakdown.  Shattenkirk wanting to go there helps a lot.  lots of dollars coming off the books in 2018, they can afford buyouts.  they need to expose a goalie at the draft though so any trade of Raanta will need to have something coming back unless they are going to take a gamble on someone as the backup.

Well yeah, that's why you expose Lundqvist.

(Forgot...guessing then they weigh a potential Raanta return against the cost to get someone else)

That's going to make it really hard to root for our young Oilers tonight, you know.

Worried about my Caps tonight.   Better not be riding too high on themselves.  Pens are going to bring it early tonight.  Something they definitely didn't do last game.  Caps better be ready to respond.

I wouldn't be worried if I were you.  The Caps have been able to control the play for most of the series, and they have looked dominant since the 3rd period of game 5.  Whether it's the Pens being banged up, Crosby not being quite 100%, the Caps just being a better team, or a combination of all 3, I think the Caps will win this game easily.

I wish I had your optimism

You people really have no F'ing idea, do you? The only possible outcome is that the Caps will inflict ineffable pain on those of us foolish enough to have wasted years of our lives watching this team, blindly holding onto the belief that something other than the worst possible outcome might happen just this once, when history has time after time given us no cause to expect anything else.

I want to get this disaster over with, so we can get on with the banner jokes and choking dog references, which are what I'm really here for.

5-3 Pens. Crosby hat trick. He shines in the spotlight. This won't be different. Game will stay just close enough to keep us Caps fans watching until the inevitable.
