LINKIn NOLA today and may now be free this evening and there's a chance I get stuck here with nothing to do tomorrow eve. Gotta get to McClures somehow though I think it's closed Mon. Have to check.
It's gonna be crazy everywhere b/c of regular NYE crowd + Sugar Bowl. I would probably suggest a hotel lobby bar as the meeting point b/c that will be the most flexible, largest space, etc...and then go from there.I'll be in NOLA Mon-Fri of next week with a large group. For new years eve, is there anything we need to do? We were planning on bar hopping in the FQ. Any place that would be a good meeting point earlier in the night, maybe somewhere that won't be mobbed at 8pm in the FQ?

Man, went there during our trip in October. So jealous of those who had a kung fu like death grip on their seat the Carousel Bar. FQF is great for this. How old are the kids?regularguy said:Tiger Fan said:there's a whole new orleans thread. take a quick look, post your details and ask questions in there. i'll answerjamil said:New Orleans. Where to stay/eat? Going with a pregnant person.Headed back down there with the family in April for FQ Fest. You ever go to that? It lines up with the beginning of our spring break and works out great for us. I can take or leave most of the music, but getting to try so many different local dishes is the highlight of the week. Saturdays somehow keep getting more packed, but Sunday is a lot more chill.
9 and 6. The youngest one is small for her age so she still rides in an umbrella stroller which works out well. They're not very adventurous eaters yet so they stick to pizza, snoballs, etc. so we all get what we want out of the deal. This will actually be our 4th year in a row of FQF & spring break in NOLA. LMK if you are out there this year on the weekend.FQF is great for this. interesting, haven't heard anyone try thatI see that Uber is in town now but not UberX. I also read that a local cab company was coming out with their own app - TaxiCabApp. Has anybody tried this yet?
Uber is generally taxi and black car in NOLA in my experience, and their coverage has been spotty at BEST (frequently NO cars on the road, even during peak times). This was 4-6 months ago, however.I see that Uber is in town now but not UberX. I also read that a local cab company was coming out with their own app - TaxiCabApp. Has anybody tried this yet?
it's horrible. waiting for the approval of "regular uber (whatever that is)"Uber is generally taxi and black car in NOLA in my experience, and their coverage has been spotty at BEST (frequently NO cars on the road, even during peak times). Thread was started awhile ago. When I get a chance I will update the first post. While cooters is good, it's probably not worth a specific trip in that direction unless you're in the area. What appealed to you about it, I might be able to point you in a better directionMan - this thread was buried deep (and the search function sucks)
Anyway, making arrangements to go solo to NOLA Aug 14-15-16 and only agenda items are McClure's and NOLA Tap Room - although having read the first six pages of the thread, Cooter Browns looks like a winner too.
Would happily meet fellow FBGs over either bbq or cold beverages or both.
It got good reviews from FBGs in general and seemingly has a large selection of craft beers. Looking at a map it is a bit further out than I had planned to go.Thread was started awhile ago. Cochon for dinner or Cochon Butcher for lunch are cant misses.Coming in next weekend for w bachelor party. Hitting NOLA Taphouse to see Tipsy on Friday night.
Chartering a couple redfish boats Saturday morning, then leaning toward throwing some dice at Harrahs and getting some oysters over at dragos for dinner (open to other suggestions for solid spot in that area that's not TOO formal/pricy.
Sunday will be brunch (not sure on where yet) then rolling back to town.

Forget Cooter Brown's. If craft beer is your thing, the only stop you need to make is the Avenue Pub, which is just a block away from Prytania Oaks. And within walking distance from there is Stein's, a deli/bottle shop that's also the best in the city. Solid, solid area right there. It got good reviews from FBGs in general and seemingly has a large selection of craft beers. I'm likely going to stay at either Prince Conti Hotel, Prytania Oaks or Queen Anne (latter two in Garden District I believe), TBD next week. Not fussy, just need a shower, a/c and a bed in a convenient location
Not planning on a car, will use public transport/street car/cabs and potentially walking if it doesn't rain too much.
ETA: And thanks !

In Boston right now, man I take it for granted just being able to walk outside with a drink
No oysters at Cochon unless I'm missing something. That's on the outskirts of what range we are wanting to walk in that direction. But biggest miss there are the chargrilled oysters (which the bachelor wants for certain).Cochon for dinner or Cochon Butcher for lunch are cant misses.Coming in next weekend for w bachelor party. No, Cochon isnt for oysters or seafood. You are good at Dragos there, or Acme or Felix's in the Quarter for oysters. No oysters at Cochon unless I'm missing something. Grand Isle. Only been once, but it was pretty goodThere is a place I like for Charbroiled oysters at Grand Isle in harrahs complex across from Manning's. They have a superb one with havarti and jalapeño. I loved it. It is not the iconic well known ones but they were as good as I've had elsewhere in town
Bummer! Definitely should plan on MIM!Can't believe I'm missing you in NO by two weeks...Oh, well. I'll have to go to Memphis in May thenComing in next weekend for w bachelor party. Hitting NOLA Taphouse to see Tipsy on Friday night.

Cab - very safe, regulated flat rate - was about $35-40 before tip a few years ago.Ticket/Hotelbooked. Best way to get to/from the airport? Shuttle/Taxi? Any security concerns with taxis?
In nola now. Uberx can't pickup at airport. Taxi is flat $33 to the city.Uber is in NOLA now. Not sure if they are allowed to pick up at the airport. If so, they will be much cheaper than a cab
Thanks, I'll take a look tonight. Off hand I think not, I've perused the list pretty hard the past couple of daysSee if they have any Ghost in the Machine left on tap at Avenue Pub. It's a double IPA from a Brewery a few hours away that is excellent....it's getting all sorts of national love
