**OFFICIAL NY METS, WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL THREAD** (1 Viewer)

I think its official fellow Met fans....we have hit rock bottom and are the worst team in baseball. 7 in a row now, and swept in doubleheaders twice in three days.

Poster boy for this garbage = Mike Pelfrey. Big wussy is gutless. Someone his size that cant hit 95 on the gun is not someone you want heading up your staff.

How the hell can this ever be turned around?

I feel for Mets fans (I really do). Theyre doing exactly the right thing in turning this around. Basically getting rid of everybody and starting from scratch. I expect KRod, Beltran, Pelfrey, and maybe even Reyes all traded by the deadline and even if they arent they wont be back.

They aren't Mariner bad
The M's have two stud pitchers (King Felix and Pineda). They also have a highly touted 1B (Smoak) and a HOFer (Ichiro). The Mets have David Wright (who Mets fans barely even like cuz hes not clutch  and Ks too much) and ...

I still think the Mets are better. But it's ugly for both teams. Minaya is still getting paid but he's been fired, right?

Seattle definitely has more to look foward to than the Mets. The Mets farm system is barren, their owners have no money, and aside from Reyes and Wright, they really have no above average major leaguers. The pitching staff is horrid, and the bullpen isn't much better.Seattle has a young ace in Felix Hernandez, and a blue chip pitching prospect in Pineda. They also have a couple young position prospects in Dustin Ackley and Justin Smoak. The Mets should not trade David Wright because he is a hug fan favorite, and is a solid player. But they should be doing eveything in their power to trade the veterans on their team. Reyes is probably the only one who would get them a couple solid prospects. They should try and move him sooner rather than later to get a greater haul.

This is gonna be tough.

I'm hoping Sandy can build from within, and in 2-3 years make a division run.

But the Phillies look like they are here to stay for the next 5 years

Braves always seem to win 87+

Marlins are due for their run every 7 years, but they always seem to have good talent

Nationals have some good prospects on the horizon

I'm just hoping guys like Reyes and Beltran catch fire by the trade deadline to maximize their return potential.

Either way...this will not be fun

Under normal circumstances, a New York team would be well positioned to reload and make another run in a few years. But the Wilpons' situation is far from normal.

I think Wilpon and Katz are going to have to be willing to give up majority control if they expect to raise cash by selling part of their share. I understand why they don't want to do this but it may be turn out to be academic if they continue to bleed red ink.

I think the Mets will have $60 million coming off the payroll if they get rid of both KRod and Reyes...at least that's something to feel good about. I guess we'll see about Reyes, but I don't care if they blatantly turn KRod into a MR, he simply can't get to 55 games finished...

Also, interesting to note that Johan, Bay, Wright, and Dickey are the only players signed through 2013.

Metsblog had a post regarding Matt Harvey, who is 3 games into his pro career: "The best pitcher so far is less of a surprise: Mets righthander Matt Harvey, the seventh pick in the 2010 draft. The North Carolina product has turned in three scoreless starts while making his pro debut at high Class A St. Lucie, striking out 20 in 16 innings while holding opponents to a .179 average. Harvey's fastball and slider can be plus-plus pitches and he can be devastating when he maintains his delivery and throws strikes, which he has done so thus far."

3 GS, 16 IP, 10 hits, 6 BB, 0 ER, 20 Ks, 3 W

Familia's stats so far: 13 IP, 2 hits, 2 BB, 1 ER, 13 Ks

Yea, it's only A+ ball, but gotta start somewhere...hopefully Harvey, Mejia, and Familia give us something to cheer for...

David Wright doesn't deserve this...
If you have to be the best player on a bad team, there are a lot worse places to do it in than New York.
Yes and no. The city itself and the opportunities it presents to someone like Wright is a huge plus. There's no doubt about that. However, the media crush (even for the Mets) is often unbearable there, comparatively.

This should be worst case scenario. Best case, Freddy Coupon is in the rearview mirror. As stated, time to strip it down and start over.

Listening to WFAN gets more and more entertaining with each Mets loss.

"Let's go to Tony in Queens."

"DEEZE GUYS ####### SUCK. I'M NEVER GOING TO ANOTHER GAME UNTIL WILPON SELLS THE TEAM!!!"

You can get tickets for $5 a piece and its still a great place to see a game, even if the team sucks. Hell, you can sit behind homeplate for $65 or so.

Wanted to throw the remote through the TV when the 3rd base ump called Reyes out on that triple.

...but how bout that Daniel Murphy :pickle:

Same here....went friggin ballistic. Murph is so locked in right now. What a shame he cant field or run the basesThis thread is working out perfectly.

K-Rod watch update. He's on pace to finish 54 games this season. His $17.5M option for 2012 is guaranteed if he finishes 55.

I'll take the under

LOL, I think you could take out a 2nd and 3rd mortgage on your house and take the money to be the under. NO WAY he sees 55 unless he's traded.

Sounds like a good get rich again scheme for the Wilpons

Currently on pace to finish 66 games
Not by the trade deadline.
True but the closer he gets to 55, the lower his trade value becomes. The option will vest whether he hits the number with the Mets or his new club.

David Wright went on the DL. A day or so after management said he wouldn't go on the DL. This seems to be a common theme.
