**OFFICIAL NY METS, WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL THREAD** (1 Viewer)

K-Rod watch update. He's on pace to finish 54 games this season. His $17.5M option for 2012 is guaranteed if he finishes 55.I'll take the under
LOL, I think you could take out a 2nd and 3rd mortgage on your house and take the money to be the under. NO WAY he sees 55 unless he's traded.
Currently on pace to finish 66 games
Not by the trade deadline.
True but the closer he gets to 55, the lower his trade value becomes. The option will vest whether he hits the number with the Mets or his new club.
I thought the idea was trade him to become a set-up guy..and he can close in the playoffs if needed.ETA: Obviously the MLBPA may whine, so idk how viable this would be...

They'll eat the rest of his salary for this year and trade him to a club with an established closer, like say the Yankees.

Just thinking out loud here, but why not trade a guy like Beltran to the Phillies (who are dying for hitting and OF help). This is Beltran's last year and if you can get anything for him it's gotta be worth a try, right?

Reyes is just ridiculous right now. How can you trade the guy with how he is playing this year?

Easy-You are gonna be mediocre this year-owners are broke-you may lose him for ZERO at seasons end-if by a miracle you do sign him, that will cost what $100-$150M-Still have Santana, Bay, Beltran, Wright on the books for next year +-Might get something special and cheaper in return-his game is all predicated on SPEED, he is a hamstring pull away from batting 280 and chasing balls out of the strike zoneI have loved him from day 1, but being he is the best asset the Mets have, he seemingly will yield the best return, in a time when the Mets are probably more motivated to make money, than win games. So they sign him, then what? They are not going to keep the pocket books open and go fetch a SP1 or SP2 worthwhile. He will be 28 tomorrow.Do we really want to be staring at an over priced contract in 2 years, when his speed is deteriorating making him a liability out there with 70+ million still on his contract? It pains me to say it, but Reyes playing at an MVP caliber type is probably the best thing the Mets could have hoped for.

:goodposting: move him now before he tweaks a hamstring, oblique or something

Starting Thursday, the Mets could / should face 7 straight All Star Pitchers

Thursday, v Dodgers: Kershaw

Weekend @ SF: Vogelsong, Lincecum, Cain

Post ASB v Phillies: Lee, Halladay, Hamels

Bay may not be dead. If they keep everyone and get back Wright and Davis, that's a pretty damn good lineup.
I really don't think we will see Ike this year.He still at least another week away from attempting to run.Maybe I am the ultimate pessimist, but I really think this team needs to move their key pieces (Reyes, Beltran and K-rod).It's easy to start falling for this team, and wanting to root for them to see just how far they can make it, but I really think this is a team that will just fall short, and then lose Reyes and Beltran anyway.

:goodposting: They need to start stockpiling young talent ASAP.

I think Worley pitches the 1st game post ASB. All those PHI pitchers (except Hamels) will be pitching in the AS Game.

With the Met doctors, i say Reyes is out til....hmmmm August 12th.
Jose Reyes To Disabled List With Hamstring InjuryJose Reyes' incredible season will be derailed for the next few weeks due to a hamstring injury. The New York Mets today placed Reyes on the disabled list and recalled infielder Nick Evans from Triple-A Buffalo.Reyes is reportedly expected to miss at least three weeks with the injury. He has been out since July 3.we'll see...

Now on pace to finish 30 games!

Brewers acquired RHP Francisco Rodriguez and cash from the Mets for two players to be named.

The Brewers are expected to move Rodriguez and his 291 career saves into a setup role, so this doesn't really hurt John Axford's value at all. Since K-Rod's $17.5 million vesting option would kick in with 55 games finished, the Brewers have plenty of financial incentive to keep Rodriguez in the eighth inning.

1 down

Straight salary dump - there was no way they were going to pay him 17.5 next year. The Brewers gutted their farm last year for Greinke so I doubt the Mets get back anything significant.

More $$$ to spend on Jose.

Beltran is next - going to hate to see him go - IMO he has been their best player. Underrated and all he's remembered for is watching Wainrights filthy curve

OK, wasn't August 12th...Was wrong hereWelcome Back Jose 2/5 with a run scored

Beltran to the Giants for Wheeler + 2 others - pending league approval.

Sad to see him go - under appreciated & underrated by most Mets fans - most will remember him for King vs Wainright.

IMO their best player the last 7 yrs but those knees are not getting better anytime soon

agreed.Just the right move to make at this time.Who knows, maybe they can resign him!

Reyes back on the DL

Costs him some serious $.

I REALLY wanted to deal him at the deadline.

My bigger fear now is the Mets sign him to a 5/100M deal.
