== OFFICIAL OAKLAND RAIDERS 2018 thread == (1 Viewer)

The effort on the field tells a different story than what is being said in this thread.  Yeah they are 0-2, but they hung right in with possibly the best team in the league and should have won last week.  If they win this week they can still make something of this season.

No one likes chicken salad. That's science.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Jon Gruden's system has led to a 'disconnect' in the Raiders' front office.

Gruden has an inner circle for personnel that "spearheaded the signing of several free agents, the jettisoning of previous draft picks and the trade of Khalil Mack." He also has his own draft board that's separate from the rest of the organization. It's created a fall out with GM Reggie McKenzie's guys and filled the Raiders with washed up veterans. McKenzie turned down GM interviews last offseason and "could seek other options after this year." Gruden's outdated approach has Oakland trending in the wrong direction, but the Raiders have no choice but to stay the course after shelling out a record-breaking contract.

Hey look, the defense is playing great in the first half again, could they possibly keep it up for a full game?

Gee, let me guess a never-ending series of in bounds dump offs to Richard & Cook while letting the clock slip away.

This is the last straw for me fellas. This organization is a joke and the laughing stock of the NFL. Have fun watching the NFL's golden boy, Baker Mayfield beat them at home next week. I won't be watching anymore.

Can any Raider insiders shed some knowledge on Amari?

Droppable at this point? Seems like this will be quite a rough season for him.

Welcome to the club.

Thru the first 3 weeks the Raiduhs have been outscored 37-3 in the 4th quarter. If only they had an impact defender...

The Browns are on their way up.    The Raiders are their replacement in the cellar.   This team is done for the season.

My 8 son said in the 3rd quarter..."I think they’ll find a way to lose this one". That kid's observant.

Depressing. The raiders will be the worst team in the nfl for the next 5 years. Mark it down.
I cannot believe how bad this team looks after looking up in 2016.  I really thought the Raiders were building a good, young team that would develop into a playoff caliber team for 5 years to come with Carr as QB.  Now, Carr is going to waste his career here.  Actually, Gruden will probably want to draft his own QB in a couple of years so Carr has hope.

To quote a Raider friend of mine. "I ain't wasting another Sunday on these fools."

As fans, especially Bay Area fans, why would anyone support this garbage? I am not going through another rebuilding period. I'm done with the rose-colored glasses, defending their stupid personnel moves, etc..

Davis and Gruden can #### off for cheating us out of the next few years of decent football. The NFL is becoming unwatchable anyway. It's so over-officated, they have to have referees in the announcer booths now to keep from losing fans. Just put the QBs in flags and be done with all the subjectivity already. I'm taking my Sundays back.

I cannot imagine many Raider fans watching this team from this point on.  The season is already over.  Skip the games but catch Gruden's pressers.  They are going to be entertaining.  Gruden is going to roll out insane excuses and explain his rebuilding mode.  (Even though he got rid of the best young D player in the NFL)  And wait for the draft in the Spring!  It is going to be completely off the rails.

This weekend I broke one of the lenses in my rose colored glasses.

This team cannot close games.  Offence, defence, Gruden, the coordinators, special teams... all if it is a wreck right now.  And all of them hold responsibility in the 3 marks in the L column.
Mack doesn't win the 2 of the last 3 games.  Mack doesn't put up the stats he has had in Chicago.   Different supporting cast and game plan in Chicago.

seems gruden's greatest strengths are his Personality and intensity.....after that i cant see much in the way of strategic coaching ability or common sense

Welcome to the club. You will now find Sundays much more enjoyable. Steam seems to be building around the idea that Gruden will dump Carr as well if the losing continues. Gruden should look in the mirror first. Go back to week 2 where on a critical possession in the 4Q he took the ball out of Carr's hands and ran it. One first down and they likely win that game.

This team is quickly assuming the mantle as the worst team in the NFL. If they cut Carr I can see a scenario where they fail to attract crowds when they move to LV and the stadium becomes an advantage for visiting teams (one can only hope).  Davis was insane to give Gruden that contract, now he is stuck with a guy who is in way over is head in terms of personnel decisions.

For those who yearned for Gruden's return there is a lesson: careful what you wish for, you just may get it.

Carr has the ability to be a very good QB and can lead a team to the SB.  I will be done with the Raiders if Gruden moves him.  Unfortunately, it is possible.

It is way too early to even think about this but I'm probably not alone.  When can the Raiders move on from Gruden?  The contract was for ten years but I'm hoping there are renewal clauses after 5 or something.

That will be official once the Browns win next week.  The Browns are not close to being the worst team in the league but the perception will cause that discussion to really bubble up after the Raider loss.  I can already hear it.  Between endless Mack highlights, announcers will ask the question:  "After losing to the Browns, are the Raiders the worst team in the NFL?"

I agree. I'm emotionally detaching from the 2018 season. Will become interested again in April for draft prep.  Just like 2002-2015.

I have watched as many games possible since 1983. Not easy being out if market when I was a kid. Much easier in the past few years. I won't stop just because they are struggling. If that were the case I wouldn't have seen a snap for the majority of 2002 through 2015. I will watch, and I will go I to each game rooting for a W.

One of the things I love about sports is the ability to take a look at things differently through all the various statistics that are available.   One item that I like to look at is the adjusted opponent records.  Removing the results of the Raiders games from their opponents records gives a non-Raider impacted measurement of how hard the schedule has played to date.  Of course there are other metrics that are (seemingly) important that this doesn't take into account such as travel, divisional games, injuries, etc.   But still interesting to look at from time to time.

Here are the adjusted opponent records for the AFC West

  • Chargers record of 1-2 against an adjusted record of 5-1 (.833)
  • Broncos record of 2-1 against an adjusted record of 2-4 (.333)
  • KCs record of 3-0 against an adjusted record of 2-2-1 (.500) (Pittsburgh plays tonight)
  • Oakland's record of 0-3 comes against an adjusted record of 5-1 (.833)
Some other notable records to look at:

  • LA Rams record of 3-0 comes against an adjusted record of 1-5 (0.167)
  • Miami's record of 3-0 comes against an adjusted record of 3-3 (0.500)
  • Arizona's record of 0-3 comes against an adjusted record of 4-2 (0.667)
Of course this doesn't make the Raiders suck any less, nor does it help fix their 4th quarter problems, or fix their very real record of 0-3.

I came in here to post a similar thing when I was driving home tonight and realized, holy crap, if we lose to the lowly Browns this week, we're officially the very worst team in the league. Ugh. This will be a new low for the Raiders.

But, we're winning this week, so let’s not worry about that.

Was talking to a buddy tonight about how short Gruden's leash is.  Obviously with that 10 year contract, he isn't getting fired any time soon.  But hypothetically speaking, how many sub 6 win seasons in a row would it take before they fired him?  3?

I think they beat the Browns next week.  Teams without a win are dangerous (See pitt and seattle and detroit this week)

I’m not sure Davis has the ready cash to eat Gruden’s contract even if he wanted to.  Maybe being in Vegas changes that, but there is enough smoke around his cash flow to make me think there is something to it.

So if Gruden wins 5 games for the next 5 years, you think he'd still be their coach?

There is a way better shot at him remaining the coach after going 5 wins in each of his first 5 seasons than there is of him being fired after 3 games into a 10 year contract.

Gruden is not going anywhere, anytime soon. Hes in year one of a 10 year contract. The team is in full rebuild mode on the field. And after this season I have a strong gut feeling the front office (Reggie) and scouting department will be overhauled as well. Gruden will definitely be there when the team moves to Vegas no matter the record. And I gotta think Davis will give him at least a couple years in the new town, new facilities, new fan base to be able to compete for the playoffs. If I had to guess, if they can't be an above .500 team by 2021 or 22, only then, will Gruden be on the hot seat. Unless he quits before then.
