Well, Obama won, but not much has changed. Republicans still control the house and have a strong opposition.

Let's see what happens. Here are the items I think he needs to address:

1) Jobs - He has a plan, has stalled in congress, let's see if he can get movement

2) Deficit/Debt reduction plan - Grand Bargain back on the table?

3) Comprehensive Immigration Reform - could be a feather in his cap.

4) Closing Guantanemo - unfulfilled campaign promise from first term.

5) Repeal Bush tax cuts for high earners?

Other:

- Climate change legislation

- Tax code reform

- Voting improvements to decrease length of lines, improve accuracy, etc.

Other issues facing him:

- Opposition party strongly opposed to passing anything he proposes

- Iran moving towards nuclear weapons

- Ongoing Libya investigation

- Towering Debt/Deficits

- Weak economy, albeit on the mend.

What will we see, should we see, in Barack Obama's second term? I've gotta say I see immigration reform and a jobs bill, along with deficit/debt reductino plans as being his primary goals.

However, who knows what will come out of the world that is unexpected, that might throw this off. Continued terrible storms affecting the country? Threats from terrorists or other countries? Economic issues?

Interested to see what doj does with the new weed states.

Also, here's the chance for both parties to reach across the table. Between now and January a nice step towards tomorrow can happen. Lets hope the tea party doesn't keep ####### this country.

I get that dems are excited that your guy won, that is expected and justified. But how can you be excited about this guy and what he can do for our country the next 4 years? There is a difference.

I could see immigration reform being a big goal to seal his legacy with Obamacare. I just hope he doesn't focus on that too soon. Much more important things to worry about.

Immigration reform will be item 1 or 1a. If he can push it through, the Dems will have the Latino vote locked up for decades. The Reps would be wise to somehow try to snatch the lead on this, or eventually they'll even lose Texas.

I bet with the news of Obama's victory the stock market goes nuts and moves upward like crazy. I haven't checked today, but my next call will be to my broker to see about moving out of bonds and into stocks.

I mean the economy will grow by leaps and bounds

I'm convinced that immigration reform will be his crowning achievement of his second term. Democrats will want to push for it, and republicans, sensing that if they seem opposed to it they'll shuttle any chances of victory in 2016, will be on board as well.

And this whole debt-ceiling thing...Obama has a pretty strong hand to play here, and I hope he plays hardball.

I'm very much liking the word floating around that Eric Holder is going to resign and not be asked to return. Good riddance.

Close gitmo, end the torture.

Close tax loopholes for corporations, end farm subsisdies.

End the ####### TSA, repeal all/most of the patriot act and its bretheren.

Expand nuclear power capabilities as a bridge to solar power capability maturation.

:lmao: Yeah, that'll happen.

I'm very much liking the word floating around that Eric Holder is going to resign and snot be asked to return. Good riddance.
small difference I suppose
Small. It's tradition for all cabinet members to offer their resignation heading into the second term so that the President has the ability to change them without having to actually fire a cabinet member. So they all in some way resign and they are told to tear up the letter or don't bother delivering it to the President. I'm hoping Obama has an aide standing in Holder's office telling him to type faster.

Few high profile cabinet members make it 8 years. As everyone knows Clinton for example is going to resign. I don't think Holder is resigning is a shocker. It wouldn't surprise anyone to see Geithner go soon too.

So how's the 2nd term agenda looking?

Progress: 1/4 rolled out Obamacare, website clunks onto the scene, then cranks up later, individual mandate implemented but still no one has been penalized for failing to comply, the employer mandate has been delayed, the minium coverage requirements for employers have been watered down, and there have been around 20-50 ad hoc amendements where Obama has unilaterally cut back on the ACA's requirements.

How is the 2nd term looking otherwise?

VA office is the subject of a pretty big scandal involving lack of care, a presumed deserter has been freed by the Taliban in exchange for 5 high-level Taliban members, Washington is still extremely mistrusted by pretty much everyone, and it looks like nothing much is going to change.

This was the original list:

1) Jobs - He has a plan, has stalled in congress, let's see if he can get movement - unemployment rate is down, total unemployed is UP. - Still hasn't reached the unemployment rate goals promised, personally, as part of the 2009 $1 trillion+ spending bill.

2) Deficit/Debt reduction plan - Grand Bargain back on the table? - Nope never happened. Did accomplish the across the board cuts, and then attacked the GOP for it.

3) Comprehensive Immigration Reform - could be a feather in his cap. - Nope, never happened. Between nothing and passing something with Rubio's name on it he would rather have nothing.

4) Closing Guantanamo - unfulfilled campaign promise from first term. - Nope.

5) Repeal Bush tax cuts for high earners? - Nope.

Climate change legislation - Nope.

Tax code reform - Nope.

Voting improvements to decrease length of lines, improve accuracy, etc. - Nope.

Opposition party strongly opposed to passing anything he proposes - Despite the wonderful 2008 Super Tuesday speech we heard about Red/Blue state, promises to reform the Bush era partisanship, nothing, just got worse.

Iran moving towards nuclear weapons - could have a deal on the table. Oh the expected time frame for the Iranians to reach nuke capability was 2014.

Ongoing Libya investigation - still ongoing.

Towering Debt/Deficits - have we piled on $11 trillion in debt during his presidency, is that the right number?

Weak economy, albeit on the mend. - improved, but overall still tepid

Add in:

  • VA scandal
  • IRS scandal
  • NSA scandal
  • Russian "reset" is a disaster
  • Bergdahl trade - a steal for the Taliban (& their allies)
  • Approval level hovering at Bushesque 40% with Senate elections nearing
As noted above the ACA rollout is a "success" albeit just a partial grade because much of it has not been implemented. This will probably be handled by the next administration.

This is looking like the lamest of ducks.

I suppose there's still time for O to right the ship but I still think President Hillary Rodham Clinton will have her work cut out for her.

Hillary as POTUS is going to be entertaining. I predict lots of meltdowns and very little work on any of the important issues that continue to plague this once great nation.
