I gotta say that Michigan looked decent today. They were able to move the ball better than tOSU for most of the game and their D looked decent (or was it that tOSU's O was awful?). They're young and could be a real threat as Forcier and some of the others get better. Tough way for their year to end, but hopefully they'll use it as inspiration in the offseason. The rivalry is just more fun when both teams are fighting for something.

There was a time when I would have argued UM-tOSU as the greatest rivalry in College Football and one of the best in all of sports.

OSU/M isn't as big but it's not that far behind.

It's always been at it's best when it came down to this game to determine the B10 championship and the berth to the Rose Bowl OR when one team was fighting for a national title and the other had the horses to upset them etc. Like I said, short of a couple years ago, this game hasn't had any of those situations. With the bowl era what it is and it's 400 different bowls it doesn't help.

I am a UM fan because as a kid I had to watch either crappy ACC football, ND or UM. Followed them since I was about 10. I am 35 now. Got my MBA there etc etc etc. No need to go digging thru threads

They played like a young team the second half of the year, what can you say. Here's hoping for a more meaningful game next year.

You have to wonder if that might figure in to Michigan's decision with RR. Sure, commitment to a system is one thing, but when 1/3 of your fans sell their tickets rather than go to the big rivalry game, there is a serious problem.

You have to wonder if that might figure in to Michigan's decision with RR. Sure, commitment to a system is one thing, but when 1/3 of your fans sell their tickets rather than go to the big rivalry game, there is a serious problem.

Oh yea, huge factor. The school knows full well now is a terrible time to be losing. Ticket renewals are already down with the awful local economy, and right after a big stadium expansion no less. Still, the biggest factor is the timing of Martin's departure, so I'm near certain Rod has another year unless the NCAA issue proves to be very big.

That's right....because I don't see the bickering between the fans as a "rivalry". There is no question in my mind that this game is the largest thing going for both these schools. All I am saying is with the last few decades, the "rivalry" has been one sided (several years for UM, several for OSU). Because of that I think it's lost meaning to me. It's always been at it's best when they are going back and forth, B10 championships are at stake etc. I shrug because I am baffled by why you care what I think.

I just dont see how he fits in this program.Hence, he should transfer to SD state or something. Brady Hoke would be excellent for him there.

I'd rather have Tate start next year and then have DG start the year after. DG is the best QB recruit in the nation but he's also very raw.

While I do route for OSU to this day, I didn't get even remotely wound up about this game. Yes, I understand the rivalry and all that. But what the Commish says is true for me too, right now, it's just another game. No title implications at all. It has stolen a lot of the luster away from the game. Admittedly, I didn't even see the second half this year. Wife had some errands she wanted to run so we went and ran them. Didn't even Tivo the game. Wanted OSU to win, sure. But it wasn't worth missing out on other thngs for. Not sure if moving away is solely responsible. I think getting older is too. I don't get riled up to anywhere near the extent I did when I was younger. But I would never hang my season on one game. People that say things like "Well we went 1-10, but at least we beat XXX" really baffle me. That's the sound of just accepting losing.

We don't care if the country thinks the game is or isn't the best rivalry in football/sports. What they think doesn't change what it means to us personally.On a side note....I have YET to meet an OSU fan that actually graduated from there. I know there is one or two floating around here, but even in Cincy, none of the guys or their wives went to school there. It's very odd to me.

I know I am not on an island. Actually, I think my/your view is more the norm, not the exception. Once you get away from that area you see it. I moved into a neighborhood here in SC where everyone in my cul-de-sac is an OSU fan. NONE of them have that "passion" people in that area claim to have. We enjoy giving each other the business (my neighbor went to UM also), but at the end of the day it's a football game. We don't care if the country thinks the game is or isn't the best rivalry in football/sports. What they think doesn't change what it means to us personally.

On a side note....I have YET to meet an OSU fan that actually graduated from there. I know there is one or two floating around here, but even in Cincy, none of the guys or their wives went to school there. It's very odd to me.

I don't understand statements like this. Why can only students of the school root for the team? I never went to Pitt but I root for them. I graduated from OSU in 2008 ... Did that give me a membership card to be a fan of the team?

Dude, just stop. Stop presuming that people haven't moved away. Stop presuming that moving away defines how avid a fan someone is. Spent the weekend in Ann Arbor; was my first trip to the state of Michigan. Went to the UM-Houston Baptist football game on Friday, got banged up at a bar that used to be called "Touchdowns" afterward, stumbled around campus (including a 2 minute jaunt through the middle of the UM law school library - what a gorgeous building), and finally devoured a couple of $1 slices of pizza from some dive.

Woke up early and tailgated on the golf course with several groups of folks, then walked over to a "Riverview" tailgate party just across the street from the stadium where I enjoyed multiple jello shots with a 50+ yr old mom, stumbled across the street and watched Tate single-handedly gift wrap the game to the Buckeyes while wearing my "OSU SUCKS" yellow tee-shirt, had ribs and beers at Damon's on State Street after the game, cabbed back to downtown Ann Arbor for shots and beer at some Irish bar before calling it a night.

Woke up Sunday thinking I'd been in the ring with Mike Tyson. And loved every minute of it. UM is an awesome, awesome place.

It's just an observation The same applies to UNC basketball fans, though I have met a few who went to school there. For as large as their fan base is, I just find it odd....that's all. I don't care that they are fans. I don't think they are any less of a fan etc. I know there are a few of you guys here at FBG, but you're the only ones I have run across. That's all.
