Dexter, for the record, I love boxing and I LOVE the 24/7 shows. I'm not one of these "MMA rules, boxing sucks!" guys - I've always been and always will be a fan of the sweet science. I watch little to no MMA.I'm just seeing the sea change. I look around my town and I see Affliction shirts, various MMA gym stickers, bars promoting the next UFC event, etc. I can't remember the last time I heard someone under the age of 30 talking about boxing. The only hope boxing has to save itself is to make the mega-fights, and Pacquiao/Mayweather is about all they've got at the moment that's going to actually draw in the casual fan. The fact that the window for this fight is darn near closed and we haven't seen it yet doesn't bode well. I can easily see boxing being like horse racing in the near future - you'll always have the diehards, but it will be nowhere near what it was even 20 years ago, let alone its heyday. The sport is dying, and the sad part is that they're killing themselves.
It's the old guard...those old promoters like Arum who keep everything in house. If it does die off...it'll be good for it. Because that'll force change...new blood and management...it'll cause it to restructure and get rid of the alphabet soup and all of the different sanctioning bodies and rules. It'll bring forth a new "league" for boxing that will hopefully emerge as a superior product.

Mayweather is released...time to get back into shape.

Hopefully PacMan dumps Arum so PBF can beat his @zz.
Floyd is now being promoted by 50 Cent. 50 just started his his company. Who knows how this impacts the prospects of the fight happening, but imo it can only help. 50 has Floyd, Zab Judah, Andre Dirrell, and Yuriorkis Gamboa. Decent lineup already. It will be interesting to see how Golden Boy and Top Rank deal with this new upstart.

Manny agrees to 55/45 split, drug testing

The key stumbling block to making a Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight -- which looms as the richest bout in boxing history if it happens while both are near the top of their games -- has been Mayweather's insistence on taking the lion's share of the money.

On Thursday, during an appearance on ESPN2's "First Take," Pacquiao said he is willing to give Mayweather the bigger slice of the pie.

Pacquiao was appearing in the Bristol, Conn., studio with Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KOs). They are in the midst of a tour promoting their welterweight showdown on Dec. 8 (HBO PPV) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but much of the conversation Thursday centered on a potential Pacquiao-Mayweather fight.

"I'm waiting for that fight to happen," said Pacquiao, boxing's only eight-division world champion. "I don't know what's the reason why that fight has not happened. ... It's OK for me if he gets a higher percentage than me."

In January, Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs), a five-division champion, and Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs) spoke on the phone about a possible deal during which Mayweather offered to pay him a flat fee of $40 million for a proposed fight but would not allow him to share in the revenue. In the original negotiation, Mayweather agreed to a 50-50 split.

"I spoke to Floyd ... and he offered me an amount," Pacquiao said. "He didn't talk about the pay-per-views here and that's it. I can't agree with that. I told him I agree with 55 and 45 (split)."

The other issue that has prevented the fight -- and there have been multiple failed negotiations -- was Mayweather's demand for random blood and urine testing throughout the build-up to the bout. During the first negotiation, Pacquiao at first declined to participate in such testing but has long said he would agree.

He reiterated that during Thursday's interview.

"No problem," Pacquiao said. "Whatever he wants to do."

Even when Pacquiao previously had softened his stance on random testing, there was still an issue about doing a blood test on the day of the fight. But Pacquiao said Thursday he now would be OK with that, too.

"No problem," he said. "Even the night of the fight. No problem."

Mayweather has demanded that his recent opponents submit to random drug testing, in which Mayweather himself also participates. He has accused Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs, despite no evidence, which led to a December 2009 defamation suit.

The suit was another road block to making the fight, but this week a federal judge in Las Vegas ordered Mayweather to pay nearly $114,000 because he continually has refused to appear for a deposition with Pacquiao's lawyers.

The prospect of a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight likely disappears if Marquez defeats Pacquiao in December.

Pacquiao, a congressman in his native Philippines, and Marquez, a four-division titleholder and one of Mexico's all-time greats, will be fighting for the fourth time.

Pacquiao is 2-0-1 against him in three controversial decisions -- a draw in a 2004 featherweight championship fight, a Pacquiao split-decision victory in a 2008 junior lightweight championship fight, and a Pacquiao majority decision win in November, the most controversial bout of the three.

Marquez is 0-2 in welterweight fights -- the November loss challenging Pacquiao for the welterweight belt (which Pacquiao then lost in a highly disputed fashion to Timothy Bradley Jr. in June) and a lopsided decision to Mayweather in 2009.

Marquez predicted during Thursday's interview that if Pacquiao and Mayweather fight, Mayweather would win.
Wonder what excuse PBF/tdoss will come up with now.

Looks like Pacquiao found a new regimen that won't show up on the blood tests. Funny how he went from refusing to do it within 24 days to this.

Floyd will make up some other excuse to duck Manny, or do something stupid on purpose to get thrown back in jail. Book it.

It's not the first time that PacMan has said he'll submit to the testing and then his own personal consultant said PacMan never intended to sign anything.

He can say whatever he wants...lets see what happens when he actually has to sign.

Plus...he's gotta beat the guy he can't seem to beat legitimately first.

And what of the Tim Bradley rematch? This is just smoke and mirrors from PacMan...he's got other options at this time.

It's going down just like I told you guys the night of the last JMM fight...they'd force another one down our throats. I told you there'd be a fix on the Bradley fight before it happened...I'll let you guys debate on whether it was or not.

PacMan is just talking out his @zz right now...he's lining up two more fights before we can get serious...we're a year out before anyone sits at a table and really starts to negotiate.

It's like the guy who says, "I'll bet you a million dollars!" And then you put your hand out to shake and uh oh..."Aw hey...I was just foolin'."

I've come around in the last six months. Floyd would destroy him.
I don't think he would destroy Manny, but likely win a wide decision. Manny doesn't look as quick or as strong as he once was. Age seems have caught up with him. Floyd also is noticeably less athletic, but he has much better fundamentals to mean on. Interesting related notes:After 50 opened his own boxing team a few months ago, he signed some quality fighters. Apparently last week there was a falling out between Floyd and 50. Since Floyd was no longer going let 50 promote him, 50 dropped every fighter and shut down shop without ever putting on a fight. Also,Floyd had temporary markers with MGM for January and Cinco de Mayo weekend.

I already told you guys that Manny would look less sharp over these last few fights...he got off the juice, or at least the juice he was using to propel him to the top.

He's going to continue to look sluggish...this is the Manny he's supposed to be...which is still good enough to beat Bradley but not quite enough to beat JMM soundly. Although, in order for the system to capitalize on the PacMan/Bradley rematch...he'll get another victory over JMM. Who knows...another controversial decision or maybe some odd disqualification or early headbutt/cut.
