How epic are you expecting these Alpine shows to beThis is a tougher decision then I thought it would be
Pretty freaking Epic IMO. You have a venue of 37000 people capacity. The 10 club sold 17k tickets during the first day (and had others to sell). That's an "arena" full of only 10 club fans. You have a ton of 10club folks who were shut out as well who had to resort to ticketmaster. Couple that with people coming all over the world, special guests, etc....and on the radio show, the 10 club managers have said that "the band realizes how special this weekend is going to be."Band chose this venue specifically....they said that curfew won't be an issue..etc.Wouldn't want to miss this for anything.
I think you just sold me. I will be there. Now I need to find a flight and hotel. Wont be able to make the Cubs game since it is a day game and I have to have practice Friday morning. But I think I will be flying into Chicago because its cheaper

Plane tickets and concert tickets purchased. Now I need to rent a car and find a place to stay

Is there anyone from the area that I can PM about hotel info.

ETA: I just found a hotel for $72 a night in Waukesha. They said its 18 miles to Alpine

Rumor of PJ at Fenway the week after PJ20http://thephoenix.com/BLOGS/onthedownload/archive/2011/06/21/fenway-park-pulls-concert-permits-for-sept-8-10-is-pearl-jam-headed-to-yawkey-way.aspx
No way they play 5 days in a row. They've said multiple times that they hate to play even 3 straight days. Could be one of the DMB caravan shows or maybe a Phish weekend?

I tend to agree, although it may not be a show on every one of those days. May have just blocked out the days permit-wise. Anyway, I'll believe it when it's official. PJ in Fenway rumors have been flying around for a LOOONG time.

Okay, how many are seriously interested in getting a small bus with driver? Apparently, there are quite a few of you at that Hampton Inn (@15?) and if we combine with you all, we are talking about 30 here. With that amount, it appears to make a lot more sense to get our own transportation, for a number of reasons...

For one, we can decide WHEN we want to go each day, which is huge, and from everything I've read, we all want to leave later, especially on Saturday. Problem is, the buses that are currently going around are leaving EARLY, like before 10AM. PFUK that! Especially for all us Wrigleyville stragglers, that will be a nightmare for sure.

I've also read that they'll have 6 pickup locations. 6?! Again, F that, what a hassle and a bunch of time I do not wanna spend. We would have 2 pickups is all. And both our locations are the same distance from the venue (south), btw...simple, and we call the shots.

Anyway, not that concerned if it'll cost a little more than what these big bus groups are paying ($40), I'd much rather not deal with all the time, the randoms and being on someone else's schedule there AND back both days. Came too far for that ####.

Thoughts? This will only work if we're all in, so should I check it out or no? Thanks. :banned:

I think it sounds great, but I'm at the mercy of (1) Zilla (who I believe is driving us from Chicago) (2) BeTheMatch - who I believe I staying at the resort who I need to meet for tickets at some point.

I will be renting a car and driving to the venue

I dont drink so if anyone needs a lift and is on my way, I wouldnt mind. Im staying in Waukesha

I just found out I'm most likely going to Chicago for work the week after Labor Day. Is it safe to assume there aren't any extra Sunday tickets people are trying to find a home for?

There are lawn seats still available. Not sure you will be able to find reserved but good luckI just bought my tickets on Monday

How are you coming up with 30 people?I'm sorta on the fence...I don't care about going early (leaving at 10 or 11)...but 6 stops wasn't what I was thinking. The reason they leave so early is because it's gonna take HOURS to get there making that many stops and then dealing with traffic near the venue. If we can get it more "private" to just the two stops I'd run it by my guys to make sure they are all in...unless you want me to do that now...let me know. Thanks SLBD.

Yeah, I did see those. I'm not sure how fun that would be going solo.
Im flying solo too. A lot of guys from here are actually on the grass for the Sunday show since they have reserved for Saturday

I think TRE's the primary driver, I don't know what I'm doing. We may have two cars.

OK...well either way, it's not my call for this. I defer to TREZilla

I kind of prefer the idea of having a car there for tailgating (or in Trevehicle's case, a badass pickuptruck). We need a conference call to sort all this out.

Yes...except for Acer's. But once PJ takes the stage, that section opens up.

Dagnabit. I'm back to wanting in on this. Alright, time to talk to the wife again.

Well I don't see how we can do all day & night Chicago on Friday and still make it to tailgate much on Saturday. TF and I still have to figure out how we're going to get our tickets. The responsible adult part of me thinks it might be a good idea to spend Friday night chilling in the Valley. I don't always listen to that part though.I'm easy, I'm doing whatever everyone else wants to do.

I think the big thing is just to coordinate how-where-when we get our tickets since they're in someone else's name.Tailgating will take care of itself, I don't need to see Liam Finn

The only thing I'm wondering about is where the ticket pick-up is vs. the gate. I mean, it can't be inside the gate, right? Because then you couldn't get in. So you must pick up the tickets "outside" somewhere. The issue then would be if me and my buddy want to go in a lot earlier than you guys can meet us. Because it says there's no re-entry. No idea if there's an area where I could stand "inside" and hand tickets to you through a fence or whatever "outside."

I came up with 30 by adding, haha. Nah, reading through this thread showed at least a dozen staying at that Hampton, no? And we have more than that at our hotel. Seem enough to get our own. And could probly fill any open seats if we want to...The other thing about 6 stops that would suck is you know how long people take. We'll likely get back a lot earlier too -- that alone could be worth it, we'll be sapped. Possible tailgate, too. I know NOBODY wants to drive in our group so the bus thing is the only way to go. I don't know, it just seems like a way better way to go if the price isn't that much higher. I haven't even called any companies yet, wanted to see if it would fly first.

While I have never been to Alpine, I have been to more concerts and amphitheaters in my life than I care to recollect. There has never been an issue with going to the front gate and handing tix to someone

We don't need the bus since we're at the Alpine resort, but if you guys tailgate with the bus and the group before the concert, we'd love to join the party. Sounds like a blast. :banned:

We like the idea. Two stops for around that price and nobody is going to want to drive. I got 6 people in total.

Okay then, I'll call around tomorrow and see where I get. I'll start with the company doing these other buses. Milwaukee companies after that. Then Chicago, no?

lol, I just googled milwaukee bus companies and on the map they all show up (pins) in the lake.

ETA technically, it was BING.

OK, need some help with this delicate topic.wake up this morning and my wife and kids get me tickets and hotel to PJ in Toronto on 9/11. We would be there the 9th, 10th and 11th.My wife did not buy the tickets or book the hotel because she says if I really wanted to go to alpine alone, that would be OK with her. Do I take the mini family vacation or do Alpine by myself. I have never been to a concert by myself, let alone a whole weekend. Also not sure if she will be disappointed if I pick Alpine. I tried to put it on her already and she said that would not work.I have to choose myselfI can have free plane tickets if I can keep the total price of the ticket below $300 and that would leave me with 2 nights of lawn seats (about $150) and I would need to find a hotel and probably rent a carAny thoughts
This is a trap. You had better pick Toronto with the family.

Great news. Don't have time for all the details right now but a 33-person mini-bus is totally doable. And at about the same rate as that cattle-calling -- less than 40 bucks! Better than I thought. Brand new, too, so they are nicer as well. We could also just do this on our own/separately as there are even smaller buses that will accommodate about half that. Bottom line is, if you are thinking about going the bus/no-driving route, those bigger buses are NOT worth it, as long as you can get around 15 people together.

40 per day for both days?

Yeah, PER day. It's $990. Plus 100 parking, which we can't get around (I tried). Told him around 12 hours (like 12 to 12), so it could be less actually. Let's say we get 30; it'll be about 40 after tip. So I was obviously taking into account we don't even fill the thing, along with tip or whatever, when I said $40. It's a no-brainer, imo. I can't find one pro going the other route. Just need to confirm we have at least 25 committed, which should be no prob. I just sent an email out to my friends with the details. Only obstacle is one guy booked half of them/us on the cattle-call bus I was talking about (for $35). He jumps the gun all the time, btw, haha. Anyway, all I need is to get him to cancel that #### and we'll all be in for sure. I'll update here as soon as I hear back.

Oh I told my guys around $40 total. I don't think that will be a big deal if it's $40/day.

I wouldn't be suprised to see the shows approaching midnight. And we're gonna have 30 drunkards looking for the bus. We know these bus places know how much of a ##### it is to get out of this venue too. Let's try to make sure we get some sort of flat rate or at least a 1 or 2 o'clock extension so we're not getting hit up for extra hundreds at the end of the night.

What was the set like? Was it all uke? Some uke some accoustic? Anyone else on stage accompanying or just him all night? I've got tix for Saturday and I'm curious what the night will be like. I've seen song lists, but I don't know how they are being played. I've not seen Eddie solo before.

The setlists have been pretty solid IMO. If anyone finds a boot of any of these shows, please share. I'm dying to hear the Unthought Known from the first NYC show. Supposedly brought the whole place down :headbang:

Wasn't there (not so happy about this), but my buddy upgraded to 5th row and said is was friggen awesome. He'll play a mix of acoustic, uke, regular guitars (check out the Water on the Road DVD)...hell a pump organ too that was apparently amazing (apparently Arc was short because of an issue or he didn't like the first recording, so then he dominated the pump). Here is the Detroit set:
01. Waving Palms02. Can't Keep03. Sleeping By Myself04. Without You05. Once In A While - (Michael Edwards)06. You're True07. Goodbye08. Soon Forget09. Needle & The Damage Done - (Neil Young)10. OK, I'm about 90% in for Apline Valley, Sunday only portion of the show. I'd definitely be in for any tailgating action going on in the parking lots before the show if there's any open invitation to anything going on. I will be driving in so I'll have a car there if that matters at all.

Thanks for the reviews, nice so far!

Okay, about the mini-bus. I need a more definitive head count here to see if it's even possible. 7 of the people in our group have made reservations on the cattle call bus, however I think I can get them to roll with this idea if I have enough people. Which means I would want at least a dozen folks from the Hampton/FBG crew onboard. I don't want to ask them to get out of their reservation (which won't be easy) only to see this thing fall apart. Thanks.
