***Official Pearl Jam Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Anyway may just do that and hope to convince you that I am not a jackass. But I'll see if anyone I know here is up for it. Don't have many concert going friends to be honest. Frankly, although I certainly love Pearl Jam, I don't go to many concerts myself.

Alright one guy said they only have one corporate hotels except in Riverside and he could only get 2 rooms max. My other buddy chimed in with:

The doubletree looks to be the closest by a longshot (about 3 blocks up canal.. not a bad spot but not much closer if at all than the hotel TF linked to. I imagine it's going to be considerably cleaner/nicer but you're looking at double the price. Incidentally their "internet best rate" is $230/night at that doubletree so my buddy's deal is at least knocking 50/night off the price.
Actually, the Hampton Inn on St. Charles is actually closer to the French Quarter than the Doubletree (which is closer to the casino)....plus I would argue that the Hampton is nicer.

this place is absolutely no frills....but the location isn't that bad....can still walk to the french quarter....and it's $80/night

Might be a good place to book as backup (as long as you can cancel)
good suggestion TFseems like a solid fall back if cancelable

Gonna call em tomorrow

Off to bed now, but this is pretty awesom

I love traveling for PJ

Never been to NOLA either

:goodposting:
Great suggestion TF. Agreed that location is solid (then again you know WAY more about this city than I do :lmao: )Booked Thur>Sun with a Queen Non-Smoking.

Your Travelocity Trip ID is: 3934 9805 XXXX

We have charged your credit card $268.14.

Confirmed they ARE 100% cancelable up to 24hrs before the reservation.

Putting calls in with my 2 "hookups" for rooms today and will let you guys know what I can dig up. I'll be shooting for clean and cheap.
this is good. I just want to reiterate that this place is nothing special at all. The location is fine (i.e it's safe), but it's still a 5-10 minute walk to bourbon. I just don't want people telling me that I set them up for disaster. For $80/night....this is a very good deal IMO for that weekend.

Google Maps shows this as being WAY DOWN ST CHARLES (3 miles to be exact) Maybe you're thinking of a different Hampton Inn on St Charles?

:fishing: you're right.....their is a Hampton Inn on ST. Charles literally a few blocks from my office that I was thinking about.

All good :fishing:I think I'm gonna stick with that place you found. Reviews state "Clean but dated". I could give a #### about fancy decor if it's going to save me 60-70%. There are times I like to spring for a nice room, and there are times where I just want a comfy bed, hot shower... this is the latter.

Agree with icon on this one. I don't need a ####### sleep number bed (75 BTW, in case you were wondering). Just need a safe location to crash. Don't plan on spending much time in the hotel. Calling tomorrow.

Just reserved 3 nights at the Holiday Inn Superdome for $129 a night using the JHF group rate. Can be canceled up to 30 days before trip. If anybody else goes this route using a BOA credit card, you can book through BOA Add it Up for 5% cashback on your credit card bill.

I hope we find out the exact day PJ is playing before those 30 days as I'd like to make it just a Fri-Sun trip if possible. Obviously hoping they play Saturday ideally while Friday would be okay too. Any guesses?

Just as an FYI your hotel is going to be a bit more of a hike from the quarter. Not sure if that matters to ya or not... just bringing it up. Could save 50/night and be closer to the quarter if ya booked at the place Tipsy linked to. May be a light step down in quality but I will say that while I've never been to NOLA during Jazz fest, I've been a LOT of times otherwise and when events are going on (ie Mardis Gras) traffic is nuts and cabs are unreliable and costly/slow. Never spent much time in the Superdome area though so might be better over there.. just throwing that out there.

Thanks, but I'm okay with it. I'll be with the wife as this is going to be sort of an anniversary trip for us so I can't really compromise the quality too much (not that this Holiday Inn is any great shakes). We've been to NOLA a bunch of times and do usually stay in or just outside the FQ, but we can walk a few extra blocks this time. Shouldn't be more than 10 minutes really looking at Google Maps.

Wow, that is one helluva lineup. At first, I thought it would be a good time to finally go, if things worked out. But now this is basically a must. Never even been to NOLA so I am pumped for a lot of good reasons. How about Van Morrison, can't wait to finally see that guy. And Aretha Franklin? Never thought I'd see her, classic! Too many to even start...

Probably the best lineup of musicians you'll be able to see in one place next year, no? Any idea who is playing what weekend?

I can almost guarantee that they won't be playing Sunday night. The Neville Bros. always close out Jazz fest onthe main stage. But either way, you should know 30 days out.

:goodposting: It's a great time. And there are always good bands playing in bars all over town throughout the festival. And even though it's late April/early May, both times I went it was really ####### hot.

That's not that bad. I'll take my softsided 6-pack cooler then. Slings over the shoulder. Load it up and chill for a while. :blackdot: So this is held at the Fairground Race Track over off Gentilly? That's quite a hike from the Business District where we'll be staying. Is cabbing it the best option or caravanning? I suppose we'll be driving and could pack folks in if need be. TF...what are your thoughts on this?Tickets look like $45/day or $160 ($40/day) for a 4 day pass plus ticketbastard fees, so yeah, probably 60/day :hot:

We doing the usual? I do prefer sleep number, let them know that.

Few things:

-tickets don't sell out, so you won't have any problems there

-Yeah, you can't walk to the fairgrounds from downtown....but NOLA is a tourist city...there are plenty of cabs...and there are jazzfest express shuttles from different points in the city (probably like $10/person). If you have a car, I can suggest some areas to park for free (if you don't mind walking a bit).....I live pretty close, so I'll likely ride my bike over there....but can coordinate that stuff later

-The searching has gotten a little stricter as of late (I used to sneak like 12 beers in my chair, but they make everyone open their chairs now)....but I got a flask in every day I went last year

Also, it might be a good idea to wait until they release who is playing what day before buying the 4 day pass....Especially for those who haven't been to NOLA before, you might not want to spend all 4 days at the fesitval. The fest doesn't end until 7 each night...then add about 30-60minutes to get back to your hotel, and you have everyone trying to eat dinner at the same time. If you have specific places you want to eat....you might want to factor this in.

We definitely need to get the whole crew together for a late dinner at Tipsy's one night. Maybe Thursday or Friday night (depending on when everyone gets in there). We got the "wine room" for a wedding pre-rehearsal dinner (night before the RD) and it was great. Tipsy really hooked us up and everyone had a blast. Just kept the wine coming and did it up family style. (big plates of several entrees, sides, etc) Sounds like the express shuttles might be the winnar here given I don't anticipate anyone being sober enough to drive back after the shows. Even my GF (who graciously will stay sober-ish to drive at times) will probably want to tie one on a bit. Amusing story for those who've never been to NOLA: My girl is kinda a "clean freak". Not so much as to be obtrusive, but suffice to say her first steps onto bourbon during the day were NOT pleasant ones. Her face contorted up "WTF is that smell?". Me: "That's urine, sweetie" :lmao: She was generally unimpressed for the first couple hours. As the day went on and she got a few drinks in her and listened to some great Jazz and Zydeco her tune started to change, however. We hit a couple cool little shops around the quarter and she started commenting on the architecture...snapping photos...etc. After a couple hours we had just stepped out of Acme to put down a few oysters, and she saw a guy playing sax out on the street and it just sorta hit her and she smiled really big. That's when she fell in love with New Orleans. Since then she's usually pushing to get down there at least twice a year to eat at Tipsys (both of our favorite restaurant we've ever been to), hit all the cool shops around the city, hear some amazing music, and get a nice buzz working while the sun is still up. I have been itching to get down there again. Considering taking the train down with a buddy in 2 weeks since we've both got a couple weeks off from work with nothing to do. I love that city....

Yeah I'd like to do the Fest whatever day PJ plays, and outside of that just hang out in the city for a few days. The lineup is impressive and all but one day is enough for me. I'd rather play drunk tourist.

This has gotten me in the mood to hit the city bigtime...

Currently listening to some Beausoleil "Live in Louisiana" and checking out the Amtrak deals out of Memphis ($125 round trip not bad) and hotels are wicked cheap right now ($50 for 3 star... $75/night for 4 star in the quarter) Thinking about taking the train down the Saturday after Xmas and coming back Monday the 28th.

Amtrak trains down to NOLA from memphis is affectionately dubbed the "Party Train". Heavy drinking in the lounge car. Departs MEM at 6am and arrive in NOLA around 3pm. Properly sauced and ready to hit the streets. ;)

Tipsy should be a little nervous at this point...
upside and I are gonna need our own trough
Who here has actually eaten at Tipsy's? I've been twice thus far and it was epic both times. Tipsy is a cool mother####er too. :goodposting:
Been there twice (once for brunch and once for dinner) and both times were great. It's definitely one of my top 2 restaurants in NOLA. I'm not lying when I've literally never heard anyone say anything bad about it. I'm due to go back there for brunch soon.

Re: All Access Passes

Found out my best shot is to volunteer that morning and I might be able to hear the soundcheck.....so not gonna do it. I'm gonna keep working some connections at work, but I doubt it's gonna happen.

OK, it's official. Vitalogy is my favorite PJ album. Have not stopped listening to it for about a month now, like it's a new release. Also been rediscovering Riot Act.

New rankings:

Vitalogy

Ten

Vs

No Code

Yield

Peal Jam (Avocado)

Riot Act

Binaural

Backspacer

Backspacer with no staying power for me. Since the euphoria of Philly has subsided I rarely listen to it.

Long story short...just got back from watching a show of some of my college buddies whose main influences were PJ (for Zilla & TU.......my GB who brought us home lil bro). Many people came up and said "what are y'all doing for jazz fest".

While I know it won't be the best setlist I've seen, it might be the best show I've ever seen.

Put it this way, the last time they played NOLA, I knew (like through real life, not ipeople) 3 people who had front row.....I fully expect a large crowd of local PJ fans for Jazz Fest around us. Obviously, all ifriends are invited.

ETA: Never seen a PJ show with the wife...and she's pumped too. Gonna be a memorable one

 I'll have the lil korean GF in tow and it will be her first PJ show as well.
