I guess I am missing something here. Why the need to be uber close to the venue? It's not a camping locale, AFAIK, it's an amphitheater. Heck, Milwaukee is only 30 mins away. Get up in the AM, stock up on beer and then drive on down to tailgate. What part of this am I missing?TIA
The post show drive?I'm also intrigued by the RV mention. They really are not THAT expensive if you have 8-10 peeps and are <1000 miles away or so.
Just doesn't seem to be a huge difference between driving 8 miles and driving 30 miles:shrug:But then again, I don't drive, so I don't have to worry about it

If I'm going to drink beer at a concert all day, I'm not going to be excited about driving 8 miles home. Particularly since that road (if you look at a map) is the only road between the nearby town (with all the hotels) and the resort. Not only will the stop and go traffic be horrible (ie 1hr+ to drive 8 lousy miles)... but the police will be well aware that 95% of the people on that road will be leaving a day-long festival. Assume what you will from that.

I don't mind driving, I don't generally like getting 'faced at concerts. Pissing is too big a hassle.
yeah i understand....I really hate sitting in traffic, plus I'd rather just be close to the vibe of the festival. I really could care less about hanging out in Milwaukee for a few hours prior to driving in traffic again.

Well, we'll see what happens, the way these things go with PJ rumors I'm assuming it will be in Topeka on July 16

News on the Vs. and Vitalogy reissues:-http://pitchfork.com/news/41675-pearl-jam-reissue-ivsi-and-ivitalogyi/

n 2009, Pearl Jam reissued Ten, their debut album, in a deluxe edition. And on March 29, the band celebrates its 20th anniversary when Epic/Legacy reissue albums two and three, 1993's Vs. and 1994's Vitalogy, in expanded editions. Details below:The albums will be available separately, with three bonus tracks each. The Vs. reissue features an acoustic version of "Hold On", a studio outtake called "Cready Stomp", and the band's cover of Victoria Williams' "Crazy Mary", the latter of which features Williams herself on acoustic guitar and vocals. The Vitalogy reissue includes a mix of "Betterman" that features guitar and organ only, an alternate take of "Corduroy", and a demo version of "Nothingman". Other than the Williams cover, all the bonus tracks are previously unreleased. Both albums will be out in remastered vinyl editions on April 12.You'll also be able to get both albums along with a concert LP Live at the Orpheum Theater, Boston, April 12, 1994 all together in a three-disc package. Of course, there's a limited edition box set, too, which features all the albums (including the live one) on CD and vinyl, as well as a cassette featuring live and studio covers from Pearl Jam's artist friends, an 80-page composition book with photos and artwork, and a glassline envelope featuring memorabilia from the era (we're not sure what that last bit means either). These releases are part of the band's yearlong celebration of its 20th anniversary. Last month, we got a live compilation album, Live on Ten Legs. In summer, the band will host what a press release calls a "destination weekend bash". In fall, we'll get Pearl Jam Twenty, a new film from director Cameron Crowe, who directed most of the band in Singles back in the day; the movie will also have an accompanying book and soundtrack album. And along the way, we'll also get special events and surprise new releases.

All you guys that booked Labor Day might want to look again. I've been confused on the dates because of this thread. We booked the weekend before LD, and yet the consensus here was LD. So I think I got to the bottom of it. A buddy tells me that when dates were posted (on Grungreport), that somebody thought/assumed those dates were Labor Day, and others ran with it. Until another poster finally corrected the mistake. Anyway, you might want to double check your info, I can't have 10 FBGs on my floor just because they didn't finish their homework.

SLBD's friend: "Dude, who the hell's crashed out in our tub?"

Me: "Oh I think that guy's name is Frankbot."

FWIW, I booked Fri-Mon both weekends. But my rooms will be filled up with my local traveling party. Might even need more than 2 but that's all I'm reserving for their lazy asses.Still gonna give some consideration for a RV whenever this gets announced, but that has alot of details to work out that can't be right now.

Same deal with me. I'm booked for both weekends, but spots already filled with B&M friends

:hey: Awesome. Also: fixed.Yeah, I don't know which weekend it is - I very well may have wiffed. I was following info that I was reading in the PearlJam.com forums, and it was stuff posted by people "with a friend who heard something from another friend", etc... I actually meant to call back and get the weekend before Labor Day as well but got busy and forgot.

Interesting tidbit about the weekend before Labor Day: It's actually the 20th anniversary of Ten TO THE DAY - The album was released on August 27th, 1991... So yeah, strong chance your info's right. I'll bring a pillow.

Ahhh fark. Okay.. booking weekend before too.... sucks floating a gr of hotel charges for several months :lmao:

EDIT: Booked...same place...FRI-MON.

:Fingerscrossed:

From the Ament interview on ESPN:

The Life: There's been a lot of talk about Pearl Jam's 20th anniversary show. How's that shaping up? Ament: Yeah, I think when we get back from this tour and Ed gets back from Australia I think we're gonna have a meeting at some point in the first part of April. I think in the meantime, Kelly and Smitty are going to look at a couple of potential places where that 20th-anniversary show could be and hopefully at some point in April we'll kind of get the venue and the date cemented. I think we're kind of hoping for Labor Day right now. I think the band really needs to sit down together and kind of get the overall vision of what we want it to be. I think we've all agreed so far that we would love to include a half-dozen of our friends that have bands that we love to collaborate with, and more of a community type of festival. I think we've reached out to a bunch of those guys, and hopefully that'll be the vibe of the show.

I loved this question/response from the live chat he did at ESPN (linked in the article linked above) :

Dave (Boston)

Are you gonna die from heroin?

Jeff Ament (3:30 PM)

you're an idiot.

I was really turned off by Jeff during time he spent on PJ radio a few weeks back. He basically admitted to only being there because each of them had a set number of times they needed to be on the call in show. I get that he didnt love doing it, but Im sure they are being paid nice and if its in the contract, no sense in whining about it on the air on a fan call in show.

Well, sorry, but I was wrong, Labor Day it is. Hope that didn't cost anybody anything. Just heard, so hoping an early warning here might help...

Are you getting this from Jeff's SXSW quotes? Because he just said that it was still undecided but that they were hoping for Labor Day or close to it... Think he said something about them all getting together and making a decision/announcement in early April.

Is it confirmed for that venue? I had already cancelled the weekend before (no penalty on travelocity). Likely going to camp if I go. Alpine Valley will be opening up some top shelf facilities just a couple months before this show. The GF and I have some nice gear and I'm thinking it would be cool to stay on site with fellow PJ fans and not have to worry about driving.

LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP — Alpine Valley Music Theatre cleared a political hurdle Wednesday in its plan to convert a parking area into a campground next summer for up to 450 concertgoers.

The Lafayette Town Board approved the proposal based on the town plan commission's recommendation, which would place restrictions on Alpine Valley operating a large campsite.

The next step in finalizing the concert venue's pursuit of a conditional use permit for the camp is to gain the approval of Walworth County.

There was little discussion about the campsite at Wednesday's meeting. Previous public hearings and the commission meeting were well-attended affairs where the public expressed its concerns about the camp creating more noise, trash and mischief during concert weekends.

Commissioners and the board agreed the camp area must be fenced, water and sanitary services supplied to the camp must comply with state and county safety regulations, trail lights must be non-polluting, and the permit must be renewed annually.

The permit would be invalidated if Alpine Valley was sold.

David J. Shaw, the theater's general manager, has worked closely with municipal officials and the Walworth County Sheriff's Office on the planning and security of the campground, Walworth County Sheriff David Graves has said.

Town residents used the public hearings to say the venue already is too large and out of control without camping on the grounds.

Under the plan, the green lot east of the ticket gates would be designated for 75 campsites. Each site would be 4,096 square feet and limited to a maximum of six people each. Two vehicles could park at each campsite.

Shaw said the camps would be for fans who wanted to see multiple performances of an entertainer doing weekend shows. Since the lineup for 2011 is not yet set, Shaw was unsure how many times the campground would be used.

Plans call for a self-contained campground that would decrease traffic in and out of the theater, he said. The amenities include toilets, hand washing stations, lighting, drinking water, a security station and a general store.

Campground regulations include:

-- No barefoot walking

-- No bonfires or campfires

-- A 2 a.m. lights out policy in which all music is turned off and crowds are dispersed

-- No vending of any kind

-- No charcoal grilling, though butane grilling would be allowed

-- No water recreational structures, such as pools or Slip 'N Slides

-- No pets, although service animals will be allowed

-- No glass bottles or kegs

Purchasing a one-day camping pass would allow guests to stay from noon on the day of the show to noon the day after the show. Campers would pay an extra fee to use the campground and be assigned a site, he said.

Teams would patrol the inside and perimeter fence of the camping area to provide security, according to the operational plan for 2011 camping put together by Alpine Valley.

damn, that sounds pretty sweet

Yeah... I actually cancelled the hotel rooms. If there's going to be quality on-site camping and I'm driving up, it would be fantastic to just be able to party on site all day and just have to stumble back to the tent rather than drive. We'll be driving up with another couple anyway and I've got some really solid camping gear so why not. :banned:

Wow...reviews on Yelp and Yahoo for the venue:

- 13.50 cans of beer (guessing 24oz? )

- Bathroom Facilities are Subpar

- Parking Lot is Massive and Traffic is a Zoo

yeah, glad i'm only 10 miles away. Hell worst case we can hang out until all the traffic dies down then cab it back.

 That there makes for some rare sites at premium rates. While that IS a hike, I do have off the two weeks bookending that weekend- and a self contained pop-up...

We're all excited for the PJ fest, but that definitely falls in the TMI category. Simmer down guy.

If I may ask, how old? My guy will be 6 in August. He's good for an entire hockey game and this year he's generally been good for basketball games. He wants to go to a concert but I tell him he needs to be a little older. I don't want to have him nagging me to leave after 10 songs. Tough call.

14 & 16. We just started hitting the occasional concert a couple years ago, they love going and they're dying to see Pearl Jam. We couldn't go their last time through unfortunately, too far on a school night.A kid that age, you could probably take him to something that's 90 minutes of big flashy lights like Muse, but Pearl Jam/Vedder solo might be too long a slog for him
