***Official Pearl Jam Thread*** (2 Viewers)

So not to dork up this thread too much, but what do you think they'll open with? Obviously they have to know that the crowd will be expecting nothing less than stellar for the entire weekend. Do they set the tone with a classic opener like Release or Long Road? Do they do something a little more obscure, but not unrealistic like Hard to Imagine or Wash? Or just go complete out of the box like WMA or something?
It's a 106 page thread dedicated to one band. I think it's been dorked up beyond repair by now. Gotta think it'll be a Ten song. Could go with Once, the album opener. I would love Release.
Today I decided I'm going to listen to all the studio albums in a row one a day until PJ20. Then lost dogs, then some rarities:bag:

Thinking through tailgate stuff...since we're all coming from separate directions, assuming it will be next to impossible to coordinate parking in the same area...any ideas on how we can all meet up in the lot to tailgate?
They should invent a telephone that you could carry around with you.
From my experiences with football games and festivals, the phones don't really work that well. Plus...."Hey, we're in row 25 next to the black accord....come find us" might be difficult  I have a portable flagpole, but not sure if I can get it on the plane or not
Stewardess: "Uh Sir, you'll have to put that back in your pants until you get to PJ20"

I can have a flag pole there. I only have a University of Minnesota flag though.

I can only imagine the gambling games we're going to think of that Friday night. Two weeks ago at a bachelor party we already had a mini 2 round draft of guest apperances (nobody currently on the bill and we excluded Cornell).

That day was also a great reminder to me that I cannot start drinking too early in the afternoon.....

So who are the odds-on favorites for "surprise" guests?Ben Harper, Neil Young. Who else? I think it would rule if Mookie Blaylock introduced them or something.

Someone on the PJ boards said Harper's in the middle of a tour and the timing likely wouldn't work. I was reading an article last week where I think it was Stone saying that there will be a bunch of guests...so really it could be absolutely anyone. Gonna be interesting for sure

Harper has shows on 9/3 and 9/4.I'm not aware of any Neil or Cornell conflicts so I'd think they are the favorites. Probably put Jack Irons in that group as well. There are alot of possibilities from those dudes to Victoria Williams to RODMAN (well maybe not)!

Saw a modern rock cover band this weekend. They were pretty decent. They covered Evenflow, which was alright, but really wet my appetite for this show. I am getting really stoked for this!

Personally, I would prefer fewer "special guests," but I guess I am in the minority there
I agree. Although, if they're doing like 3 or 4 encores per night; it could be cool
3 or 4 encores in sets that aren';t starting until 9:30 at the earliest (I expect them closer to 10 PM)? That sseems ambitious
Assume I'll be spending close to a grand for the entire weekend...I better be ambitious!

Ben Harper is playing here at Del Mar next weekend so it won't be him. Man, I'm kind of a mess right now, didn't wake up too long ago but let's see...

Cornell would be great, but let's hope he doesn't butcher Hunger Strike like he did in Santa Barbara. Good god that was awful. I stumbled across that boot recently and could not believe how bad that song came out. I remember being there and not wanting to think it was bad, but it was. No idea what happened, nerves maybe? I don't think he could handle the 11 year layoff, ha. He tries to go so hard at the very beginning that he buries himself and can't go anywhere after. Weird because he sounds quite good on other songs that night so it wasn't that...sounded great even on one in particular (that I can't recall right now). Speaking of which, there is a great version of Betterman from Santa Barbara with Jack Johnson (on same boot I found). I don't care if you like Betterman or not, this version is excellent, and different. And finishes with a tag I've never heard before that's cool. Ed is just crooning at the end of it.

I'm on a bender. Headed to this bar where all the track folk go on Monday to rage. Band started up last week at 2PM, don't wanna be late. This is Saturday (no racing) for all of them so it's great, gets kind of rowdy. There is a also this smokin exercise rider meeting me there... By the time I get to PJ20, I may not make it to PJ20... :D :banned: :bye:

ETA that kind of turned into a GMTAN update in the PJ thread there at the end, oops. Might as well keep going here... I hit the pick 6 on Friday, thus the bender...

ETA2 when I woke up I noticed I was on the clock in my first ff draft (AnarchyII). I have not followed #### this year. I took VICK at #3. That might not have been real smart. :lmao:

Who hates Iowa?!
We hate Iowa!
:hifive:Quick hijack: I went to the Nebraska-Texas football game last year with some buddies, one of which is from Lincoln. So we're walking around downtown several hours before kickoff, and the bars and tailgate lots are overflowing. We're all doing pretty well. When, up ahead, I see a guy sitting outside a bar on the sidewalk wearing a Gophers shirt. As we walk by, I scream at the top of my lungs, "Who hates Iowa?" And without so much as looking up or even moving, the guy screams back, "We hate Iowa!" Good times. But I digress.

I'm sorta with you here. I'm thinking the more guests will disrupt the flow of the shows, Ed will talk alot (not always a horrible thing, and we're there to celebrate 20 years of history, but I also want to rock), etc. They do have 2 nights to spread it out. 2-3 per night would be good. Enough to make it stand alone vs other shows, but not overkill at the same time.

Another question is who will Ed join during the day and which days. Glen and Liam both days? Does he or anyone of the other members have a tie in with the other acts?

I bet Ed joins a lot of the acts during the day. I can also almost guarantee that on night 1 Ed will say something to the effect of "more people need to come inside earlier to catch the earlier acts".The two acts that I have interest in, Liam Finn and Young Evils play way too early...so I've already written them off. I'm not viewing this as a festival though...more like a kick ### tailgate for 2 kick ### PJ shows.Gonna try to follow the LSU/Oregon game on my phone as much as possible before the show starts on Saturday

Based on where the side stages are I'd think you'd be able to stroll over to that area without going inside and be able to hear some of the sets you want. Could be wrong though.

They just released the map of the venue. They have a "Pearl Jam" museum...should be interesting.
Expo passes needed for the museum?
Not confirmed whether or not yet
From the board...apparently this is from an Alpine staffer:
everybody will have access to the museum. There are 2 levels to the Expo Center. The upper level will be dedicated for the "Expo Center Pass" folks, and the lower level will have the museum as well as concessions/restrooms/etc.

McCaffrey's. Good times again. The Lakers assistant coach was there again (I sent TU pics of me wearing Bulls and Lakers Championship rings the week before). Lakers girl too, dancing around. That girl Aussie jock was there, very cute, better in person. Also the exercise rider I was talking about...but showed up so ####-faced I couldn't get anywhere...what a great broad.

So I just got a call from a buddy who is on one of the big PJ busses we've talked about...he's been in contact with the bus company owner who wants to add another smaller, 30-person bus which would leave the Lake Geneva area at 4PM. That would be ####### PERFECT. And for only 25 bones which is great -- a lot cheaper than the company I was talking to a month ago. So I told him I'd throw it on here...

I know the TU party moved hotels which appears to be closer to Lake Geneva, if I'm not mistaken, so that might work. Is there anybody else in here interested? The sooner my buddy can let this guy know he has some more takers, the better, cuz he'll just arrange it knowing he can fill the rest. We won't be on the hook for anything whether there's empty seats or not.

So besides that it's probly the cheapest way to go, we won't have all the stops the big busses have to take, the rest of you can pick a place for your pickup, and we can call the shots on times. The biggest part is that we won't have to be at Alpine for like 10 hours until PJ go on, for Christ's sake. And I can sleep IN!

LINK to the bus company.

the old surf n saddle? not trying to hijack...just sort of lurking in here. going to vancouver sept. 25.

For anyone looking to tailgate, I do have a couple VIP parking passes for both days that I won't be using. I could coordinate getting them to you, and then we'd have spots for tailgating.

And it looks like the spaces are already assigned. I hadn't noticed that before.

The website says no alcohol is allowed in the venue. I assume that only means inside the gates, and we aren't going to get car searched for bringing coolers of beer in for the tailgate?

As much as getting there at 11:30 sounds early...the first pickup leaving at 4:00 sounds late. This is especially true on Saturday...I don't think we want to be hanging around the Hampton all day, rather be at the site checking out the museum, tailgating and maybe checking out some other acts. Sunday seems the more logical day to regroup. Do you know if it's possible to do the early bus one day and the late bus the other day? Or do you have to commit for both days?

I can't see how this works for tailgating. What do I do with my coolers, cornhole boards, giant flagpole, chairs and giant blow-up Vedder doll?

BTM--we'll take one for each day if they're still available:thumbup:

Defer all to/from plans to Tre/TU.

I'm a big fan of tailgating in the parkng lots no matter how early.

"We" at LSU tailgate for a living. I'll be there at 6am with beer in hand if that's what the rest of the crew wants to do :football:

FYI the pickups for the 4pm bus Sonny was talking about are in the following places:

Fontana, Lake Geneva, Delavan & Elkhorn

edit: which based on a quick look at Google maps makes little sense for the Burlington crew to do.

Well Tre, TF, Zilla and I will be driving in Tre's giant pickup truck and setting up shop somewhere in the lots (VIP or otherwise). All FBGs are welcome to come by for booze, food, and fun.

Are you the guy from North St. Paul? We may already know each other.
