I know there is a streaming thread but appears to be enough interest for its own thread.  If not no harm.

Great 1st episode imo

What is the spoiler policy of the thread?

ETA - I have not watched yet, but plan to

I dug the movies, especially the first one.  I already have a ton on my plate in terms of watching shows, so not sure I have the bandwidth.

I'll probably give it a go.

I read the first book, which supposedly this series is based on.

Honestly wasn't that impressed with the writing style, but the story was great.  Burned through it in a week or so and am looking forward to the series.

Love the books ...once I start reading, it's near-impossible to stop.  I enjoyed the movies, though Tom Cruise didn't seem right for the role (but he did a great job).

Very much looking forward to this series.

Kind of a spoiler ...a reaction to the first episode (but without plot comments).

I rarely watch TV shows other than sports and movies.  Is TV generally this poorly acted?  They certainly got the Reacher body type correct.  But I wasn't impressed by the character.  He seemed too upbeat.  And I kept thinking of Jon Levitz - "acting!"  But the writer, Lee Child, is involved with the production, so maybe my book-based imaging is just incorrect.

Didn't read the books. Saw the movies. Binged the season already. Thought it was fun and entertaining. Favorite character is probably D-Day.

He's tall in the books. I've not seen the movies but Cruise was a bad choice physically for the character. Ive only read the first two books.
I have a friend who read all of the books and refused to watch the movies because he was so pissed about the Cruise casting.

I watched the Cruise movies but it really was bad casting for how he’s described in the books.

FYI the 2 latest books he’s passing off writing to his younger brother and they kinda suck by comparison.

That thought had crossed my mind.  But at least Cruise got the snarly attitude down well.  This current Reacher doesn't emote much at all.

Lee Child cameo.

I actually never read the books, I guess I should lol
I have all but two of the 26 books in my 900 book elibrary. I've only read about 10% of my library. I need more time...and motivation to read. Much easier to binge watch all my streaming services.

Sat down this morning to watch a couple episodes...

A couple turned into a few..

Next thing I knew 8 hours had past and it was over...

Loved it.. Probably will rewatch..

Yeah, my wife and I sat down to watch the second episode tonight.  We're now through #5.

I picked up Killing Floor in 2013. I then bought a grab bag of all of the paperbacks that were out at the time on ebay. Devoured them in order. As in most cases, the books are way better than the screen. Each year I would buy the new release on release date, usually in Sept. And as someone mentioned above Lee Child has retired the franchise to his brother although he did collaborate on the newest.

I've now watched 12 episodes of this new Reacher (re-watched 5-8). Took me awhile to make my mind up on giving it a thumbs up.

Way up!

2 episodes in and enjoying it, in the John Wick sorta way.  Don’t over think it and just enjoy the ride.

this is silly, but fun. acting and writing (micro) not great- but it does a good job moving along and each episode has solid pacing and lots of opportunities for Reacher to beat up a group of guys and always be omnipotent. I'm waiting for him to drop the flight speed of a laden african swallow.

All but one now. 61 Hours was on sale. That's why I have so many ebooks. I watch closely and buy when they temporarily drop to 1.99 to 4.99.

Male or female? And is it FULLY laden? What about windspeed and precipitation? Duration of flight?

My wife (Army vet) who has read only one Reacher book asked me, "how does he know so much? I thought he was in the Army?"

He's 39, despite mostly playing much younger on Titans, for instance.
Reacher was born in 1960. But the books bounce all over the place. I like the ones where he is back in the Army as an MP colonel.  He takes relish in the fact he can piss off generals with his rank in the MP.

An interesting thing about reading the Reacher series is that Lee Child switches back and forth between first and third person book to book. Reacher first person is pretty humorous.

No plot spoiler but reaction spoiler

My negative is Reacher delivery sometimes feels like it's autistic, or almost as he has a bit of mental issue. It doesn't always come off as a straight to business calculated delivery.

It's tough to describe

100% agree. Emotionally dead, autistic, Robotic. Definitely not his underwear. Hal 2000 more emotive, tbh.

Enjoyed it a lot and basically finished it this weekend. Will definitely watch more seasons.

same.  Started on Friday, finished last episode Sunday morning.  I was entertained and look forward to more seasons. I have not read any of the books so just enjoying it for what i see on screen.  Thought there was great chemistry between the main characters.

Totally agree.  I've read the books and never got that impression.

Wife asked me last night in ep2 if he's 'on the spectrum'.

while his performance isn't doing to elevate this for me, it's also not taking anything away from being a silly, fun ride.

but a question for the book readers regarding Bell's comments- does Reacher have some kind of high functioning autism discussed in the books? character reminds me of Affleck in The Accountant

eta: crazy timing with poke... I guess no autism. strange choice by the show-runners to make him like that then.

Watched 3 eps on Fri night, then the other 5 eps on Sat.  Kind of sucked me in to binge it, which I normally don't do.

Will hold off on spoilers and discussion for a bit.

Not that I can ever recall, and I think I've read all of the books.  But I can see where his personality (even in the books) could give that impression. He's basically a loner, traveling around with nothing but an expired passport, ATM card and folding toothbrush. Has a nearly perfect internal clock, and a memory for old baseball stats.

He's very logical in the books, and has very little emotion.  It's actually something I've never pondered.  Considering the first book was published in 1997, maybe he is 'on the spectrum' but it was never mentioned in the books?  I dunno.

Yeah impressed me as somewhere between that and Puddy.
