I never even got a pat option.   "Calm" was my only option for 20 mins while he bucked around like a dumb mother####er.

Just kept calming to no effect.  I'll try it again.
move slow.

you need to get close

Got the leg white bison and legendary buck last night.  The buck was a PITA to find the first tracking spot -- was far away from the map icon.

knocked out about half of the legendary fish last night. Some very cool fishing spots!
how many are there? I think I have 2 of them.  maybe 3.

The one that is up in the northeast corner of the map by the waterfall was a huge pain.  I was standing out on the rock in the middle of the lake when I caught him.  DO NOT DO THIS.    You can't carry a large animal and swim at the same time.  I caught him, bundled him up, then the bundle sank to the bottom of the lake.   I had to shoot it with a shotgun for 5 mins to move it inch by inch to a spot here I could reach it with my feet on the lake floor.

Did the High stakes treasure last night.  Took over 3 hours and that included using websites.  If people really want to do those w/out cheating then be my guest.

The best part (other than the 3 gold bars) was found two more moose (only one was ***), the *** was hiding in the trees so I ran closer to him and he charged me, barely got the kill shot in his head before he got to me.  After the shot he was laying at my feet dead, a pretty awesome scene.

Also bagged several bighorn and sheep.  Even finished off an outfit at the trapper.

There's usually a ? on the minimap for the first clue.  Took me a few legendary before I learned that.
For the legendary buck I had the same experience as Ahrn. The question mark was very far from the location. That one took me a long time to find. The rest have been easy.

13 I think the mission said.

I know the spot you were talking about, I avoided that rock for that reason.  That sounds terrible LOL.

I caught one by the lighthouse and the rocks were all slippery, fell like 10 times carry/dropping that fish every time. total hassle but kinda funny too

On the far western side of the map there's a lady in a cabin with a bunch of dogs -- she just yells and shoots me and her dogs chase anytime I'm near.   Without spoilers, is she involved in anything more than this at some point in a mission or something?

So after the patch, now trapper saddles give bonuses just like the best ones at the stables.  Some of those trapper saddles are SWEET!

Yeah, it isn't always within your minimap window, and I'm not sure it shows on the full map...  but it definitely helps.

I have done all the legendary I can access in chapter 4.  (Alligator is not available until chapter 6, panther needs highest hunting achievement, a few others are in areas I can't get to yet.)

So I was playing last night and while I was trying to shoot some bird, an alert popped up that I had unlocked or found something, but by the time I was able to look away from my target, it had gone.  Is there anyplace where most recent alerts can be seen?

I think left on d-pad (don't hold that is journal) give list of tasks/missions and possible recent notifications...  it was probably a rock carving...  or I've had a message pop up when a unique item was nearby...

That update is almost 6gb. Damn.
Took me 3-4 hrs but I think thats because I had BFV and Fifa updates going too. Speaking of BFV I forgot I pre ordered it and GS didn't give me a call on my deluxe edition. Said it was an error on their part with how hectic the month has been which I can imagine. The guys at my local are great and come into my store often. The one guy Jeff got me into Yakuuza and I can't thank him enough for that. Either way went to get BFV and he said my Pro membership was up and I could use the points from my membership I hardly use. I do this every year take the pts and use them on my membership. Turns out they aren't doing elite pro anymore. So I got to go down to basic when membership is up in a few weeks and then go back to the highest reward all taken care of with my PTS. I also had enough pts (and when I mean enough I mean I'm like a millionaire when it comes to how much I have) to get a $50 off coupon. Used that on BF5 got the game for basically free and they owed me $5.95 and had to put the ,95c on a GS gift card. So in the long run I got a game for free and made back my deposite.

FINISHED CHAPTER 6

The story/cinema/score is fantastic

DO NOT CLICK THIS SPOILER IF YOU DON"T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING

:(

Was really well done though
Did you get through both Epilogues yet? It's actually pretty cool

I'm thinking at some point I'm gonna go back and create a new game and play again. Do most of the side stuff. Anyone have any suggestions on when I should start most of the hunting and stuff? I kind of want to get to a point in the story where I have some pretty good free reign on the map.

Soon as they move the camp and you hit Chapter 2, you can go to the entire map except the southwest area where you're wanted dead or alive.

There are some things you can't finish without going to that area (3 legendary fish, 6 plants for herbalist, horse dry dash to Blackwater) and a couple that are chapter dependent (shoot 3 hats off in one Dead Eye) but you can finish quite a few challenges and progress others to near the end.  I'm in Chapter 3 and have just about fully completed 4 sets of challenges, and most of the rest are around levels 8-10.

I figured after moving the first time it's easier.

I have no idea why any of you would want to play this game from the start again. I cannot stand games that hold your hand at the beginning and as good of a game this is, I don’t think I’d still be playing if I had to redo the first chapter.

Stream of consciousness while I have a minute.

I think hunting cougar perfect pelts in the northeast might net cougars faster than northwest of Strawberry, as I have got 2 perfect ones in one ride through the area including the furthest points north. But, you don't have the Trapper right there to sell off larger pelts and carcasses like you do near Strawberry.

If you need sheep perfect pelts, don't kill the mountain sheep, they give ram pelts. But the farm north of Valentine where you meet Mary Linton has sheep in a pen you can butcher. I went at night, didn't get Wanted despite a guy sitting out front of the house even.

If you need pig/goat perfect pelts, the Downes ranch works well. Just hogtie the owner or do it while he sleeps.  There's 1 ox as well.   For cows, the Painted Sky ranch in the middle of the bend in the river has 2-3 cows.  And there is a Trapper over to the west. If, say, a cow is 2-star and the other 3, you can kill the 3, ride to the Trapper, come back and the cow will have respawned and might be 3-star now.  Though you have to tie back up the rancher again.

Bull pelt, that ranch east of Rhodes,  jump horse over the fence, rope and kill it at night, then jump back out.

Some of the challenges with like "8 consecutive Small Game bow kills", if you load a save it'll reset you to zero anyway.  Argh.

The absolute worst challenge for me was winning 3 hands of blackjack where you drew 3 cards.   I was drawing every hand as long as there was still any chance of not busting with 5 cards, and after 3 hours I'd only had 3 hands that drew that many without busting, and two were a push on 21.  Just bad luck.

Driving a wagon in St Denis sucks.

Sticking with 1 alternate horse and getting him up to level 4 Bond is handy so you can whistle him from a distance.

I wish you could break down big fish, rather than having to cook them.

I don't use the advanced predator bait much, but if you like it and need ingredients, there's 2 blackberry bushes just north of Riggs station beside the tracks. Then cross the tracks and the road and up the hill for a 3rd.  I haven't found many blackberry bushes so far.  I know of like 2 others out northwest of Strawberry is all.  I always stop at the Riggs ones when I ride through.

I thought plants that you pick don't respawn for a few days. But some respawn if you just ride a bit out of sight and return.  While I was doing the 8 consecutive small game bow kills, I picked the same two Golden Currant plants about 5 times as I passed back and forth over a half hour period.

I was actually thinking last night, "This is a game that when I stop playing, it will probably be a year or two before I'd be interested in hitting it again."

Have you started the mission from the fisher guy?  you have to mail him 13 legendary fish to complete it.   I think it was 13 anyways, I did 6 and thought I was about half way there.
I did launch that, I'm just stupid and forgot about it.

Does this apply retro to previously crafted saddles?
It did to mine.  Though I think it might include stirrups built in as I couldn't choose my own after. So you might need to compare the stats to what you have with your old choice of saddle and stirrups combined.

I'm no expert on saddles, but the reddit post said now all trapper saddles are better even tho trapper saddles can't have dancy stirrups.

Now that I've completely given up on that mess that is Fallout76, I'm getting going on this in earnest.

What an amazing and we'll done game.  Having trouble keeping my horses alive but I've laughed and cried more at that than I can remember.

So far, my horses:

1. Liberty (rip)

2. Liberty's Revenge (Rip... I think.   Can't find him)

3. The spirit of Liberty (do I need to say it?   Dead)

4. Give me Liberty or.....( Wish granted....dead)

5. Fallout (figured with a name like that, he's already dead and can't die....we will see)

Wiped out a family of 6, ensuring generations of family will never be born, for a 130 bucks and a dirty shotgun.

My wife says every time I turn this on that she can’t wait for it to be over. Tonight I spent two hours unsuccessfully hunting animals in the snow. I’m going back tomorrow. I have bad news for her.

Played for an hour or two earlier.  Saw a youtube video of a guy quit-and-reloading and checking a particular spot up northeast until he got a pristine moose.   I tried, saw moose there (same exact spot) twice but both 2-star.  And after that it just didn't seem to work for me.  No moose, it kept loading me into different spots, etc.  Once it loaded me with my health core down to a sliver for no reason that I could tell, and it had a hat lying on the ground beside me though my character is known as Arthur the Hatless.

I did snag a pair of cougar perfect pelts while up there though.  Think that closes out my need for cougars in the clothing stuff.

Just "did" , for lack of a better, non-spoiler term "the Witches Cauldron".

Anybody know what the effects of this are, other than the immediate and seemingly inconsequential thing that happens?   Seems like there would be some effect somehow, but I can't see anything different about me after this.

online play is pretty fun... I still have some stuff I want to do in single player though  (haven't caught a single dagone legendary fish yet)

I had wondered too and googled it.   No one had anything else to add, they thought that is it.

Been trying this for two days and nothing. I need that skinning trinket!!!

When you get to the area, make sure you get the 'Legendary Animal' notification.  If not, it could be too active in that area.  This happened w/ me several times with the buck and it was due to O'Driscoll's, bounty hunters, and even bears.  Be sure to clear the area of bears and of bad guys.  You may have to camp as well, but at least one time I killed a bear (and 3 others ran off) then immediately got the 'Legendary Animal' notification.

Once you get the notification, just start making bigger and bigger circles around the initial area until you see the ? on your minimap.  The ? is always the first clue.

Didn't know you could play online yet
Online Beta started Tuesday.  If you played on release day, you were allowed to play starting yesterday.  Others can start playing today.

I haven't tried it yet.  I'm in a hotel this week w/ around 10mb highly variable download speed.  Online would be a futile effort.

I am in Epilogue II and something just occurred to me and I have a, sort of, in mission/free roam question (huge spoiler if you are not done with Chapter 6):

With no cash, I haven't been able to steal a decent horse for John and didn't want to take the time to rope one.  It occurred to me that, since Arthur helped John escape, Dutch's box may still be in the Beaver Hollow cave.  I went back and proceeded to get rolled by Murfees 5 straight times and gave up.  I must have killed 30-35 of them, but they just kept coming.  I have tried to avoid searching this stuff online.  Anyone have a chance to take out the Murfees and get in the cave to see if the box is still there?  Also, why did Arthur take his cash with him to the grave vs. giving it to John (or did I screw something else up here)?  Finally, should I be creeping through Blackwater looking for the take they ran from to start the game.

@Poke_4_Life's point is right that just because you're in the right area doesn't mean condidtions will allow you to hunt.  There's some message that basically says "you're in legenedary animal territory but there's currently too much activity to track".

More specific to the legendary Buck, though -- If you Zoom in on the map where the Buck icon is -- just above that you see the text for "Blackbone Forrest".  Go look for your first tracking point to the below the "BLA" in black, to the left of the "F" in Forrest.  that's where it started for me.

I'm really concerned with the online mode. Trying to do a story mission? Other players are notified and invited to go kill you so you can't complete it and get screwed out of rewards. And they can see exactly where you are on the map at all times... I didn't realize GPS existed in the wild west.

Seems to me a better system would be if you only appear on the map when you become a high enough bounty hunter target. And even that should just be a small hazy region, similar to the single player game when you're looking for someone, to simulate where a wanted player was last seen.

I thought they were going more for realism, but my experience last night gives me the impression RDR online is going to turn into a crap fest like GTA.

Possibly in a small group of people I halfway know (Like an FFA map) I'd try it, but by and large I have zero interest in online play with this game.

Hmmm. That would be fun. I’d do that.

I haven’t done anything online basically ever. Don’t need that aggravation.

we'd be split by console type -- but we could probably get this going.

If you guys want to PM me your console (PS4 or XB1) and your gamertag, I'll put some lists together to share.

I have both versions PS4 and Xbox - LONG STORY - so I'd try with some fools on here.

After the first few weeks GTA settled down on line where people "trusted" each other

EAbell on both

Sounds kinda fun if your the other players lol

Mmmmmmmm, that wasn't my experience.   I think there's 8-10 story missions online where you play 2-4 player co-op and are totally off the map to other players.   You can always posse up as well.  They didn't have GPS in the wild west, but you bet your bhole you didn't want to be running around solo.
