***OFFICIAL Red Dead Redemption 2 Thread***aka AHRN'S MURDER HOBO ADVENTURE: HUNTS ELK AND PLAYS POKER (1 Viewer)

Dominoes may be the most boring game ever.  I played it for the first time last night and the only reason I kept going was because I was winning.  It took at least 15 minutes and all I got out of it was a measly dollar.
Rockstar is good at a lot of things, but creating in-game minigames is not one of them.  At least you're not getting hectored by cousin Roman to go bowling all the time.

I think Gwent is the only one of these things that I actually liked.

I enjoyed playing poker but I like poker.

I found a gimp locked in a basement of a gun store. I shot the gun store owner and then I was so disturbed by the whole thing I shot the gimp too.
I was going to free the gimp. But, I couldn't figure out how he was "chained to the bed." I shot the floor near his feet. Accidentally hit his foot. DEAD.

Poker is fun, but do the buy-ins increase in bigger towns at least? Playing for $2.50 feels like a waste of time.
I played a $5 table in St Denis.  Two of the guys had the same face but different clothes and hair cuts.

The poker would be fine in this game if you could skip watching them pull in the chips, gather up the cards and move them to the next dealer.  That sequence just about doubles how long it takes to play a hand.

Why wouldn't you be able to play a digital copy just because xbox live is down?
You tell me. It's all over the internet.

I can't play any of my digital games

A temporary outage on Xbox Live can trigger this message. If you see online Xbox Live status alerts, wait until service is restored, then try again.

Microsoft has confirmed that digitally owned content might not work as issues affect servers.

The official Xbox Live Support site hasn't updated with the latest details but a new report confirms problems with Xbox Live tonight.

Herbalist 9, picking each of the 43 different plants in the game, is going to drag on I'm afraid. :(

For stuff like this does it count if you had previously picked some of those before you had this "quest" activated?  Or do you have to find all 43 again once it goes active?

Have to pick them again while the quest is active.  Started me at 0 of 43.

And it tells your current count towards the quest, but not which ones you've picked for the quest. I'm keeping a list in Excel that I mark off so when I get near the end I'm not having to guess what I still need.

Was on the way to drop off some perfect pelts after a nice hunting trip and as I was approaching the trail to camp some poor soul was wailing for help a bit off the path.  As I approached, my horse threw me and I soon realized it was an ambush.  With my horse thoroughly spooked, I knew my only choice was to shoot it out (I usually run to keep my honor maxed).  So I blast the dikhole who called me over as I was already looking in his direction and move in to assume his position against the rest of his posse who have me surrounded when.... plonk!  Into a hole pit covered by leaves where they move in to start taking fish in a barrel shots at me.  Had to chuckle to myself about the guy crying about losing encounters and calling the dead-eye mechanic cheating.  Tossed all their corpses into the pit and chucked a molotov in after looting them.

Do the gators move?   I had a run in last night.  Killed a guy.   Picked him up and dropped him right next to a gator.

Gator didn't move an inch

Maybe he wasn’t hungry.

I’ve had them take me off my horse (or maybe my horse was startled and bucked me) but I’ve also noticed they didn’t aggro when I was waking on the ground and fairly close to them.

I shot one with my bow before I realized that the game tells you what weapon to use on what animal, and it ran off a little ways after shooting it.  Not very far though.  They don't seem to be especially mobile.

Still in Chapter 3, got to play for around 90 minutes last night.  (Adulting sucks, not enough time for RDR2.)

Got the Legendary Buck on my first visit to the area last night.  It was the first time I've had the scene where a deer didn't die immediately and I had to knife it to finish it.  Not gonna lie, that messed with me a bit.

Then went to get the pipe for Dutch, that went as well as it can.  Made it to the fence in Rhodes w/out losing the Legendary Buck pelt or a 3* Elk I picked up leaving the area.  Now I have the buck trinket that is supposed to make pelt drops better.  Wish the trapper had shown up on my map, I couldn't find him.

Oh, had a weird encounter w/ a cougar also.  On the trail NW of the Legendary buck area, I hear a screeching like a cat (oh ####).  Horse is going nuts but not bucking me off.  Cougar is right next to the horse leaping at me but can't reach me.  I can't focus my pistols on it either.  Try Deadeye as well and it won't work.  This keeps going for a bit with the cougar circling around trying everything to get at me but can't and I can't focus on it to shoot it.  Finally horse and I just ride off unscathed.   I assume this was some kind of glitch.

Had the stranger encounter for a second time where the guy gets killed by his own horse.  I noticed this time he had a named hat that I could keep for myself, I don't remember the name but it looked decent and it is mine now.  I wanted his horse for pelt storage since I was still hunting but it ran off too far/fast.

I really enjoy this game.  I may be playing it for the next 12 months.  I will try online at some point, but this story mode is incredible.

He tells you of an O'Driscoll gang camp in Ch. 2.  There was a decent amount of loot there.  He then becomes part of the gang.
Sounds good. I’m going to restart the game, was curious if there’s any reason to make a different decision that I did originally. It looks as though I’ll stick with my original.

Thats one one of my problems in these games, I always want to make the “right” choice. The Witcher 3 bothered me nonstop thinking I made an incorrect decision to the point where I restarted half way through and used a guide when it came to making choices.

Yeah, no big game changing turn one way or the other.

@Poke_4_Life is talking about Kieran. I don't think you have the option to kill him.

The guy who recognizes you from the Blackwater job gives you a fountain pen if you save him, that's pretty much it. I don't believe he comes back into the story

Hmm, you are right.  Carry on.  I don't remember what I did w/ the other dood.

Not sure if we’ve talked about this before or not but I’m exactly the same way, to the point it often cripples my game playing experience. (You of all people can imagine how frustrating my character builds and early runs of DS went!)

One of the few games I was able to be decidedly evil was in Fallout New Vegas and it was by far one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I’ve had in the thousand-plus games I’ve played.

Im having trouble with playing a bad guy in Red Dead. The constant and enevitable posse encounters impead your progress so much that I’m just gonna wait until I beat the game before murdering everyone.

I've been able to placate my inner sociopath a bunch without having to sacrifice honor level. There are just so many opportunities it's not hard to balance it out. I don't think it has any impact on the actual story like it can in other games, just random stuff like how you are treated in towns, shop discounts, etc.

Yeah judging by the good/evil bar it will take a hell of a long time to get to the extreme left or right.

I’ll let you guys know soon enough. ??

The posse encounters are only hampering my ability to hunt legendaries at this point. Had a bunch of encounters last night while hunting, but had not problem going into valentine to mail a fish ( :lmao:  ).

Chapter 3, and I have yet to pay down my bounties. I’m at about 600 bucks combined.

Incidentally, I ran out of ammo during one encounter. I made a mad dash to camp, knowing I was warned against doing this. I made it, but it appeared to kill me (I “woke up” sitting on a rock in camp). However, there was no apparent penalty.

Also, I need to start posting the random videos I have. So many :lmao:  moments.

I don’t want to spoil any, but here’s one re encounters with wildlife:

has anyone else been attacked by a Ram? I believe I had a buck try to attack me too, but he missed

All I know is the BOunty Hunters are out way more now than before.  I got stuck in some small town I never been before riding in circles

Ran over one on my horse

Do you often survive the bounty hunter encounters? I usually can run away but when I engage them there’s a good chance they’ll get me before I get the last one of them.

This happened to me after a mission and I missed out on all the loot when they showed up as I was looting.

Also when you die you get a loading screen which I hate.

Been blindsided by a buck shortly after breaking camp, up in the cougar-hunting area Poke mentioned.  Had no idea it was even near, let along aggro.

Do the gators move?   I had a run in last night.  Killed a guy.   Picked him up and dropped him right next to a gator.

There's a side quest where you bait a gator into chasing you.  I was too focused on out-sprinting him and then out-swimming him back to the boat to see how fast he moved though.

Had to share this somewhere... tonight I was smoking a pheasant IRL while playing Red Dead. I completely forgot about it, shot a random bird in the game, it turned out to be a pheasant, I cooked it, and then realized that I actual am cooking a pheasant. I ran out and pulled it right at 165.

Life is weird.

In the beginning, I was more passive and I’d die a lot. I’ve been more aggressive, and it’s paid off.

Stay on your horse and engage. Fighting on foot is deadly, unless you have decent cover options.

I had a bunch of encounters last night. Only almost died once, when I ran out of ammo in one of my pistols.

Thats the fun part! So random.

Yeah I’m just always worried I’ll close out a good ending or a different story line or something like that.  It causes me more tension than it should.

Between dead-eye (cheat, lol) and the healing through food/tonics, I don't see how anyone loses any encounter.

I finished the main story last night.  Wish I had took my time a bit more, I guess.  I didn't feel like I was rushing through the story, but I'm done.

In case people haven't tried, or didn't play the first one... the shortcut for skinning from the first game works still.  Park your horse on the dead animal you want to skin, and you'll skip the majority of the animation.
