Depth Chart (as of 4/8)

C: Iannetta

1B: T Helton

2B: C Barmes

3B: Garrett Atkins

SS: Troy Tulowitzki

LF: Seth Smith

CF: Ryan Spilborghs

RF: Brad Hawpe

Bench: Ian Stewart, Dexter Fowler, Jeff Baker

SP: Aaron Cook, Ubaldo Jimenez, Jason Marquis, Jorge De La Rosa, Franklin Morales

RP: Manny Corpas, Jason Grilli, Ryan Speier, Jason Hammel, Alan Embree

Closer: Huston Street

Nice way to start the season with a series win over Arizona at Chase field. Cook looked awful but they have to be happy with the way Jimenez and Morales pitched.

Looks like they are going to lose Juan Morrilo, and apparently they are looking at Chad Guadin. Apparently Guadin wants a starting role, but I'm not sure if the Rockies have spot especially with Morales pitching well in his last outing (even though he was sent to AAA until the next fifth starter is needed). If the Rockies falter I expect Atkins to be made available later in the season. I wish they would commit to Stewart at one position, but it looks like he is going to be playing everywhere until they decide what to do with Atkins (and insurance for Helton with his back issues).

Rockies blast Hamel and the Phillies to go 3-1. Nice way to start the season.

Honestly suprised Marquis did as well as he did.

they looked really good on friday. they started hot yesterday but just couldn't put the nail in the coffin. too bad, cause i think the only teams i like to see lose more than the phillies are the red sox and yankees.

Stewart with 11ab's, and not in the lineup today again, is baffling me from a fantasy perspective and just plain old let's win baseball games perspective.

there is no way I would have thought that Marquis would lead the rockies with wins at any point this season.

I don't understand their use of stewart either.

2 games above .500 and two games back of the wild card spot.
When he was with the Dodgers I recall seeing interviews with Jim Tracy, and he came across as very intelligent, and quite astute about the game. I was impressed. How much do you think he has had to do with the team's recent success? Has Tracy made a difference or is simply that the team is getting hot.

I think it's both. Playing Barmes at #2 in the lineup, Stewart at 3B, and bring up Carlos were solid moves.

But the players got the message and realized that while Hurdle may have made some mistakes, there is no reason why they should have been playing the way that they were.

Tulo has finally starting to get going and Ianettas return from injury have helped as well. But the biggest difference has been the starting pitching.

Outside of De le Rosa's implosion they have been outstanding.

Stewart really struggled in the bottom of the 8th at 3rd. Tough loss due to some bad plays - still impressed that they fought all the way to the end - earlier in the year they would have gone out with a wimper.

Marquis on the mound going for win 10 tonight - who would have thunk it?

the rockies have an interesting dilemma next year. with gonzalez in LF, fowler in CF and young at 2B, that's a ton of speed. but not a lot of power. probably too much speed and not enough power for 37.5 percent of your lineup. keeping barmes at 2B over young gives you added power. so that leaves 3 OFers for 2 spots. which is OK, but it begs the question: is one of them destined to be a 4th OF in colorado? and if so, who gets hurt the most long-term?

Fowler is not just a speed guy and he projects long-term as a middle of the order guy. Gonzalez also has some power.

i know it was just one game, but after watching thursday he's gotta play.

Huge series starting tomorrow in SF. The Rocks can't afford to get swept again like they did a few weeks ago. Street may be back.

Clinched playoff spot with win today. Win division with a sweep @LA this weekend (not likely but still I can dream, right?)

Also a chance if they did sweep of being #1 seed overall in NL.

the way the dodgers are playing, anything is possible.tulowitzki has to get some serious cosideration for NL MVP. he won't win it, but he should be top 5-6.

Another day, another game closer to LA. Odds are still against them sweeping, but they (and the Dodgers) sure are making it interesting. Philly and St Louis both lost tonight, putting the best record up for grabs as well.

So the Rockies lost but made it real close, and interesting. Grats Dodgers on division, barely! But the Wildcard was won by us, so that's a good thing for the Rockies. Onto Philly again like a couple of years ago.
