***Official Rugby on NBCSN Thread - Coming 9/3*** (1 Viewer)

The Olympics was the first time I'd really watched rugby.  Took me a little time to get the hang of it,  but I learned pretty quickly.  I really enjoyed it,  so I'll give this a shot.

The Olympics has Sevens, which I don't really like. The big boys get involved here, which makes it much, much better.

Great season, thank you NBCSN. Exeter had a great season but Saracens were dominant in the semis and final. Great to see American Chris Wyles finish his great career with two tries in the final.

The All Blacks have turned one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports into a joke, winning the Bledisloe Cup for the 15th straight year. Absolutely crushed and demoralized Australia in all aspects of the game today (2:30 a.m. my time), winning the second test 40-12 and rendering the third test meaningless. Beauden Barrett scored 4 tries and 30 total points, but Ben Smith was MOTM for me.  If you watch the Amazon doc "All or Nothing" you'll be familiar with both these guys. Awesome performance by the All Blacks, utter, epic crapfest from the Wallabies.

Probably not the best place to ask strategy questions but I will anyway.  England had the ball and was just feet from scoring a try and a penalty was called.  Do they have to kick in that scenario or did they just do it because it put them up 2 scores?  What other options do you have?

That first penalty that put England up 10-0 was an easy decision I think - definitely take the points. At that point, everyone was just waiting for the real All-black team to show up (they never did).  They tried a very long one a bit later, where they brought in their fullback (not normal penalty kicker) with a big leg and he missed wide.  Obviously, in retrospect, not the best decision.

When given a penalty, a team can kick for the goal (3 points), get a scrum, kick for touch - to advance the ball and get a lineout, or sometimes they will do a little tap kick to themselves and just run the ball, usually if the other team is not organized or watching for it.  The strategy depends on the score, field position of the penalty, and the team's strengths.
