Closer to the Heart is their best song. :lmao:
Quality tune, but there are so many better songs in their repertoire.
Agreed. Closer to the Heart and Working Man both had huge influences on Rush becoming popular. The maintstream could identify with the lyrics and the shorter play time. But IMO neither are in their top 10 songs. They just aren't that complicated to play and don't have the instrumental depth their best songs do.

Yes, but they are pretty. :hot:

Rush will film April 15 concert in Cleveland for DVD

Ready for your close-up, Rush fans?

The Canadian rock trio has announced plans to film its concert Friday, April 15, at The Q in Cleveland for a full-length DVD release.

Singer-bassist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart will perform their 1981 album "Moving Pictures" (which included the hit "Tom Sawyer") in its entirety, as well as other material.

They chose to film their upcoming show here because Cleveland was the first city in the United States to embrace Rush's music, according to a statement on the band's website.
LinkAnd I will be there. :goodposting:

I used to go see Rush in early 70s at the Piccadilly Tube, the Gasworks, Larry's Hideaway etc.

They had John as their drummer then and were really good live.

Good times as we hung out with them back them.

There music has evolved since then and they are definently a top band

Wifey got a real good deal on tickets for my BIL and I for Christmas for the Palace at Auburn Hills show in April from a friend of hers ...Can't wait!!!

Really looking forward to Live in Cleveland.

I don't think it will be the complete show that is being released later this year but still it will be a lot of fun to see that concert again.

Next Spring will bring us a brand spanking new album "A Clockwork Angels" and a massive world tour!

  Can't wait to see this. I wound up seeing them again on the second leg of the Time Machine tour. I thought that they'd be completely burned out as it was one of the last shows on the second leg. The fatigue was evident when they were winding down the Snakes and Arrows tour, but this time they were on fire! Lots of energy and they sounded fantastic! Ged's voice isn't as strong as it once was, but for a guy approaching 60 years of age, he can still bring it.I'm really looking forward to hearing their new album. Hopefully sooner than later! I've been a fan since Permanent Waves was released. I still find it amazing that after all these years, they're still going strong. What a great ride it's been!

Love how J.T. the Brick kicks his show off with

right after his monologue every night. It's a crime they aren't in the R&R HoF.

Watched most of the Time Machine video last evening. Wound up DVRing the replay so I can watch the whole thing at another time. My only complaint is that VH1-Classic is not broadcast in high def. Red Barchetta was epic!
 So I finally went back to watch what I had DVRed and it turned out to be the Classic Albums: 2112 and Moving Pictures doc instead of Time Machine. WTF?

They're airing "Rush Time Machine: Live in Cleveland" a bunch of times over the next week on Palladia (Mtv's HD live music channel) if you get it. I just tivo'd it last night and can't wait to watch it.

Bummer I don't get VH1 Classic with my like third tier Dish Network package. Ridiculous. Anyway, I hadn't seen them since the Presto tour, but when I heard they were doing The Camera Eye, decided to round up a buddy and go. They killed. La Villa Strangiato was also a highlight for me. That's definitely a top 5 for me. I don't know anything after Roll the Bones, so some of the songs were new to me. I thought they were okay...nothing that knocked me out on first listen. But I was very happy that I went. Camera Eye live was a bucket list item for me.

Apple Jack you sound like me, with a heavy preference for "old" rush, but they do have several recent songs worth a listen. Far Cry, Caravan, and B2B (Born to Believe) are all great rock songs IMO. Go listen on youtube, I'm betting you'll agree. But I'm with ya, '74-'81 Rush is what I listen to 95% of the time.

I was curious as to whether these guys would tour in 2012 to also play the main part of 2112...well, sure looks like they're headed that way.

Rush's Geddy Lee Says New Album Will Be Ready By Early 2012

...

...

Do you think you guys might perform another album on a future tour?

I think we would. I would love to try that idea again. I thought it was really fun. And given the fact that we play for almost three hours, you can do that and still have lots of time left over to play other stuff. We had time for our newer songs and we had time for more obscure songs. So it kind of works in the way we present ourselves.

I'd love to hear 2112 straight through.

I think that's something that would be fun to try.

Do you think it's possible?

Oh yeah, it's definitely possible.

...

What's the status of the next album?

We're almost finished writing. We wound the machine back up about three weeks ago. After a sluggish start, we've had a very fruitful couple of weeks in terms of writing. I'm very pleased with the direction that the material has taken. And I think we have one or two more songs that we'd like to write, and then we'll start recording in earnest. Hopefully we'll have all of the recording done before Christmas. Then we'll mix it some time in the next year, and then get it out.

Wow. So it'll be out sometime early next year?

Yeah. I hope it'll be out by the spring anyway.

I would not be shocked if 2112 is performed in it's entirety. I am talking the entire album, not just side one.

They played all of side one on the Test For Echo tour in 96/97 and that was also the first tour the started the "Evening with Rush" approach with no opening act.

It was an exciting week for Rush fans as the rumors of a Clockwork Angels listening party that was to take place this past Tuesday turned out to be true, and some details began leaking out Wednesday afternoon. Several dozen journalists and industry insiders showed up and were treated to the entire Clockwork Angels album. They all had to sign confidentiality agreements and agree not to publish anything related to what they had heard for at least 72 hours - which would be this afternoon. So be on the lookout for more details today. From Sniglets at Counterparts: ... if you would have wanted Rush albums in the 80s to have a harder edge then this is your record. The songs are like a winding journey and definitely has a more modern day concept feel to them. Keyboards are present on the record so if you loathe them, sorry! He didn't compare it to any particular album and that was a relief. He said just take 80 to 91 in a blender and that was it. ... Headlong Flight will be the title of the first single to be released from the album, which they are still aiming to release on May 29th. Since Tuesday's listening party, Roadrunner has been out shopping Headlong First to various folks in the radio industry and the Twittersphere has been abuzz with reactions - all very positive. The track is about 7.5 minutes long and has been described as epic by those who have heard it along with some comparisons to By-tor and the Snow Dog. Here's a sampling of some of the reactions: In studio right now w Mark from Roadrunner listening to new tune from @RushIsABand called "Headlong Flight." Bands, or fans of bands, that have been around for a long time always pull out the "the new stuff sounds like the old stuff" line, so I'd take that with a grain of salt.

Regardless, knowing that a new Rush album is less than two months away is always exciting.

Yeah I have been hearing this with every Rush release since Presto.

No doubt the album is going to be awesome. Rush has never....ever let me down.

More importantly is the Clockwork Angels tour which is slated to begin in October. And I have strong inside information (I mean really inside the band) that 2112 will in fact be played in full. Side one and side two as the showcase of this tour along with all the new stuff. So let's see if this holds true.

EPIC tour on the horizon.

I've been predicting that for a while. It being 2012, playing all of 2112 makes perfect sense. Plus, they probably want to get that song in full on a live DVD before they call it quits (it would have been on the one from the Test for Echo tour that was recorded, but technical problems make them shelve the video release and release just a live CD set).

Love it. But Tears live? Not so sure about that. Lessons, on the other hand

Agreed 100%, have thought this for a while. Also, could see them opening with Subdivisions in a nod to Signals 30th.

That would be an amazing opener. Of course they could just kick right into 2112 and get the party started. The place would go ape ####.Then kick off set 2 with Subdivisions and then we will get a healthy dose of Clockwork Angels!

I just hope its not TOO much keyboards. Hopefully Clockwork Angels will be to Rush what A Different Kind of Truth was for Van Halen.

Them kicking off the show with 2112 will only work if the rumors of a fall tour are true, as 2112 must be played in the dark, and starting a concert off with that during summer shows outside, when it is still light outside, just wouldn't work.

And on that note, I am really looking forward to seeing Rush inside again. The summer tours have been great, but give me an inside concert again and bring back the lasers and cool light show. :banned:

Yes I can't stand the summer sheds. I much prefer Rush indoors. And from all reports it will be fall start for the tour this year.

Yeah. It must be dark when 2112 starts.

I have no doubt it is more keyboard flourishes, and color. We will never hear the mid 80's keyboards again. That was a period of Rush that is done.Caravan and BU2B gave of a good indication of the keyboard's roles this time around. I am glad they are using them again though. I thought when Rush experimented with them a lot it really added another dimension to there sound and made them more interesting to keep listening too, instead of staying the same album after album after album. That is what progressive music is all about and Rush started out as a hard rock band and evolved into a progressive hard rock band, into a rock band, to a lighter more keyboard intensive rock band back to a hard rock band with CP and VT.The twists and turns of their sound is what has made them so unique and loved by most of their hard core fans. So many different flavors to listen to and discuss.

The 30 second clip of "Headlong Flight" is pretty damn cool. I loved the clip of "Far Cry" when it was released and was thoroughly happy with Snakes and Arrows, as it's a top 10 Rush record from my view.

And since I love the songs "Caravan" and "BU2B", I am pretty confident that Clockwork Angels is going to kick some serious ###! :headbang:

Caravan and BU2B have both an edginess and rock factor that we really didn't get much of on S&A. Don't get me wrong, I liked S&A a lot, but it was mostly mid-tempo songs, so to hear Rush getting back to rocking hard is a great thing. The key will be how strong the vocal melodies are. I have no doubt that the music will be great, but the last time they rocked really hard on record mostly from start to finish (Vapor Trails), the vocal melodies suffered. I am confident that they will deliver, however. :)
