Very very impressive show. I have to say, I've lost count the number of times I've seen these guys live, but last night was truly one of the top performances I've ever witnessed (especially 2112). Not sure how they do it, but over the past half dozen shoes I've seen them at recently, they seem to get better and better.

The eight-piece string orchestra played nearly the entire 2nd half of the show and provided amazing backup to a majority of the songs performed from the new album. What a fantastic addition! We actually got to meet most of them coming out of the Palace and going to their buses after the show. Great people and tremendous musicians
Set List Part 1

Set One: Subdivisions, The Big Money, Force Ten, Grand Designs, Middletown Dreams, Territories, The Analog Kid, the Pass, Where's My Thing (with Drum Solo), Far Cry
Set List Part 2 and Encore

Set Two (with String Section): Caravan, Clockwork Angels, The Anarchist, Carnies, the Wreckers, Headlong Flight (with Drum Solo), Halo Effect, Wish Them Well, The Garden, Dreamline, Drum Solo (The Percusser), Red Sector A, YYZ, Working Man (reggae intro) Encore: Tom Sawyer, 2112 Part I: Overture, Part II: The Temples of Syrinx, Part IV: The Grand Finale
Now I wish I was seeing them some more on this tour.

Detroit Freep Quote "Tuesdaynight at the Palace of Auburn Hills, the veteran Canadian band delivered anunorthodox set of songs with typically crisp musicianship, for what just mightbe the lone rock audience whose air drums can nail 7/8 time to start a show."

November 3rd........sigh....what a wait.15th row dead center though......can't wait!!!!!!!
October 12th :banned: Very excited to see them again (has it really been 2 years??). I'm an old-school fan and the setlist doesn't thrill me, but the show will be great without a doubt. I haven't missed many Philly-area shows since the GUP tour. I know the days of Cygnus>Hemispheres & By-Tor>Xanadu are gone, but I hope with each tour anyway ;) "Besides BU2b, they are playing the whole album!! " <-Based on the setlist provided, they're not playing 'Seven Cities of Gold'?? And 'Halo Effect' is out of order. I've seen one setlist (9/7/12) where 'Carnies' is listed but not '7 Cities' and another (9/9/12) with '7 Cities' and not 'Carnies' I hope to hear both as they are my 2 of favorites from CA.An older tune that needs to be retired, imo, is Working Man.Also not sad to see "La Villa" omitted.

No "7 Cities" at mine in Detroit, which many were disappointed about.

I guess what I liked about it was it wasn't the same old thing and predictable, nice change up IMO. It was fresh. You could tell Geddy and Alex and Neil are having a blast so far on this tour, just from their interactions with the crowd.

I actually live "in" Lakeside Park.

Port Dalhousie, represent!!!!!!

Neil Peart used to give my best friend drum lessons. No joke

Eddie Trunk sucks, and so does the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rush doesn't need them; their greatness, after 38 years, speaks for itself.

I like Eddie Trunk, but at the same time I don't. Just the fact that he is pretty much the loudest voice left says a lot.. hard rock and metal are history.

Rock & Roll HoF = Pop Music HoF

I like this quote a lot

"We are honored to be among the nominees for this year's Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame. We are especially thrilled for the many, many dedicated RUSH fans to whom this nomination is so very important," the band said on their Facebook page.
I appears they are happy to be there but don't overly care b/c of the BS politics, but are happier that we (the fans) can finally put this snub behind us. I think they know how passionate their fan base has been about this subject.

They still won't make it. The powers-that-be (see: Jan Wenner, a self-professed Rush hater) are just doing this to throw the fans a bone, like, "See, at least we nominated them this year." But Wenner has said that Rush will never be in so long as he has any say so, and I doubt he has changed his mind. Not that it matters, but I think some fans who care really think they'll get in now, and they are just setting themselves up for disappointment.

But Rush has long proven that they don't need validation from critics, the R&RHOF, etc.; like I said before, their success and longevity speaks for itself.

It's comical how desperately some Rush heads want them to get in. WGAF? It's a popularity contest. One of the best things about Rush is how fabulously uncool they've always been. Less so lately, of course.

I know its been a pretty well-kept secret, but I think the Rolling Stones, Bob Dillon, & Led Zeppelin are going to be inducted this fall. :coffee: HipHop HoF

After years of planning and setbacks, the long-awaited Hip Hop Hall of Fame is headed to Manhattan.

The exact details of the museum are still being worked out, according to the hall's business manager Bobby Fisher, but it will be open in midtown by 2014.

The museum will also host tours for thousands of city children each day and include a gift shop and restaurant.

Before the museum opens its doors, it will add more members to its roster, which includes artists such as Run-DMC and radio DJ Red Alert.

In November, the Apollo Theater will host the Hall of Fame's inductee ceremony, which has been on hiatus since 1997, following the murders of rappers Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur.

i thought this was about gold rush and had a big thing typed out about how todd hoffman is not a good leader and then i realized it was about the band so i delted it and all i have to say is that neal pert rules brohans that guy rocks out with his you know what out and his drum solos are as good as the guy from 300 saying this is madness no this is sparta nad then throwing that bad guy in to that pit so rock on neal pert sparta style and take to the bank brohans who live in the limelight

The concert in Phoenix was amazing. I found the setlist to be outrageous, in a good way for a fan like myself. The new album is huge and the string section was a good addition for the show. But if someone doesn't know Clockwork Angels and Power Windows, the concert could seem a bit strange to them. They played a total of 2 songs from the 70's. I am thrilled to have seen so much from Clockwork Angels, judging from the crowd reaction they really seemed to enjoy those songs more than the 80's songs.

Since they played so much old stuff on the last tour in guessing the rolled out new stuff this time. I've seen the 10+ times. It's best to see then in the Midwest where the crowd is looser. The easy coast shows are good but the fans here just don't get into much of anything. How can you sit for a rush concert? Really?

Ouch - that would have pissed me off. Glad I didn't check them out this tour.

They should tell them no thanks, we're good with our position and our place without having a guy who ruined Rolling Stone and now edits cheesy "men's" magazines. I really do hope they pass.

Maybe they are setting them up acting all thanky now but when they get on the stage to accept Alex & his son will starting throwing people down stairs and such.

Ah, I didn't realize they'd already given an agreeable quote. He has a point about the nerds. After all the concern and energy you kind of have to do it for them. And Al and the kid all torn up and giving Wenner the bizness backstage would be awesome.

Yeah, I missed this tour as well, and while I love the songs they played, not playing much from the 70s would be a downer. You can put together a nice setlist with songs from all their eras and cram it into a 3 to 3 1/2 hour set. Personally, while I think Clockwork Angels is their best album since Moving Pictures, I would rather have them play only 4-5 songs from it so they can play other stuff.Or they could medley a bunch of songs together.....what they did during the 2004 30 year tour...opening with a medley of Finding my Way, Anthem, Bastille Day, A Passage to Bangkok, Cygnus X-1 and Cyngus X-1 Book II was really good. 6 songs in a 15 minute segement.

What would be really cool is if they did a club tour where they played a 2 hour set consisting of songs that they have NEVER played live before, and then encore the end with 4 classics (say Tom Sawyer, The Sprit of Radio, 2112 and Working Man). I would be first in line for tickets for that.

Everyone hoping for an R40 tour next year. Not sure they have it in them. They seem close to hanging it up.

This past tour was just ok for me. I love power windows and grand designs and territories were amazing. It just came up short compared to the snakes and arrows tour. That limelight digital man entre nous mission freewill opening is tough to beat. Throw in witch hunt circumstances and bangkok later and it was just over the top.

I think the opposite. I think they're firing on all cylinders, are having fun, and are as creative vibrant as they've been in a long time. I see nothing indicating they're close to hanging it up, other than Ged's voice, but he can continue to write the new material in a range he can sing.

I'd like to see a "HOF" tour. One song off every studio album they have done. 20 songs?

I read an interview with Alex were he mentions a 40th anniversary tour. It won't be immediate as the CA tour goes into summer '13. He definitely seemed like it would happen though. My guess would be Spring/Summer '14.To those happy they skipped the CA tour...

I prefer the '70s Rush, but knowing what the setlist was before going I was able to just sit back and enjoy what they did play. Probably more so this time around then ever before. I love CA and seeing them do it live with a string section was a treat. It may never happen again. Similar to when I saw Porcupine Tree do all of "The Incident"; it wasn't all perfect but won't ever be done again. Seeing/hearing YYZ with strings was probably a one-time performance.

Peaceable Kingdom has never been played, and I think they said it was one of those studio-only songs, mainly because the song was pieced together using bits of original jams, so them having to relearn the song in its finished form would be a very difficult task, and for a song that isn't that great, probably not worth the time. The return of Turn the Page would be killer, but I am not counting on it. Nothing but Force Ten, Time Stand Still and Mission has been played from Hold Your Fire since the late 80s, and I doubt that will change. And the odds of them playing all of The Necromancer or Hemispheres, much less both, are about the same as Alex Lifeson taking over as Rush's lead singer.

:goodposting: And I wish I had seen PT do all of The Incident, but when I saw them on the tour they did with Coheed and Cambria, they only played the first five songs and I Drive the Hearse (which slayed).

Put this in the How I Met Your Mother thread, figured I should put it here...For the Geddy Lee (and other Canadians) Fan...

Geddy Lee set for How I Met Your Mother cameoJan. 9, 2013, 9:18 AM ESTRush rocker Geddy Lee will make a cameo appearance on hit U.S. comedy How I Met Your Mother in a special Canadian-themed episode. The musician is among a number of Canadian celebrities who will appear on the show, which marks the return of the series' popular character Robin, a washed-up pop star who hails from the country. Along with Lee, Growing Pains star Alan Thicke, TV host Alex Trebek, and singer/songwriter k.d. Lang all make guest appearances with series regulars Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel. The episode will air in the U.S. on 4 February (13).

Apologize if this is a Honda, but was listening to a large playlist today, and heard "Take Off" from Bob and Doug McKenzie, featuring Geddy Lee. Hysterical. If you are (like me) of the generation that remembers (and enjoys ;) ) the McKenzie brothers and their various comedy, you will agree that Geddy fits. The version I have starts 30 seconds or so before this one, where they talk to Geddy about him helping them out and getting paid for it - his response "Ten bucks is ten bucks." And when Bob and Doug are impressed with Geddy having memorized the lyrics to the song, he says "I am a professional."
