***Official SNF Game Thread - Eagles at Steelers (1 Viewer)

Some observations so far...

1. Reggie Brown is not acting like a WR1 should. He looks nervous out there.

2. Parker can score at any time

3. Roethlisberger is going to have a lot of 250+ yd passing games this season

4. Pittsburgh defense looks like they will outperform their ADP of DEF9 (current staff consensus)

5. For me the verdict is not out yet on McNabb

Side comment: I wonder if I can just buy a name plate of "Holmes" to sew over my "Stewart" #10 Steelers jersey? Wait a minute, I just admitted to owning a Kordell Stewart jersey?!?
Do you mean the verdict is not in yet? Id
Hmmmmm, I think you're right. Maybe if I said the jury is still out? Is that any better? This all goes back to the "you get on a bus, but get in a car". Or the alarm goes off, but not on. Anyhow - I'm not sold on McNabb being back yet. He looked great against Carolina. Maybe that says something about Carolina?

I agree...

I'm not sold either, FWIW

Yet, anyways

Big Ben and Santonio Holmes have played pretty well this preseason. It'll be interesting to see if that continues and how that'll ultimately affect drafts.
I remember in 1999 how the Browns beat the Cowboys in the Hall of Fame game too.
There is little wonder that your icon is a cartoon character.

Carolina played bad in that game, but they also didn't have all their defensive starters playing. I know that Julius Peppers and Dan Morgan didn't play in the game.

Went to the game last night so wasn't able to post. Here are some observations:

1) Ben's interception was a really bad decision and he needs to learn to take a sack once in a while. On the other hand Ben makes a lot of big plays by scrambling one way and then turning back and throwing the other way. We might have to learn to take the good with the bad. Other thn that one play and a couple of overthrown balls, I thought he looked good.

2) If it seemed like Ben and Hines were on different pages last night it was partly due to Ward having problems getting around the referee. There were at least 4 times Ward had to alter his route because the ref was in the way. Ward was not happ and complaining to the ref about it.

3) Willie Reid should be cut. He may have been a good punt returner in college but he has looked awful in preseason and again last night. Muffed punts, calling for FC inside the 5 yard line, and a crappy average when he does return the ball. If Reid is this bad as a return man then cut him and give us Walter Young -- a better receiver with some height.

4) Tomlin was jockeying the O-line last night like crazy. I hope he doesn't continue this practice during the regular season -- an o-line needs some continuity.

5) Timmons missed a tackle but he looked good last night. He is raw but I liked what I saw last night.

6) Davenport had a very nice game and is certainly the #2 (insert poop joke here) RB. There was some speculation last week that Kreider might be cut but I think his job is safe too. I think Crey Davis and Gary Russell will make the team leaving Barlow and Haynes out. At least this what I am hoping will happen.

7) Definitely a solid effort by the Steelers although the Eagles were playing pretty much the whole game without Westbrook. The one thing I have noticed is the Steelers D has been having a hard time with the TE this preseason.

And this guy was one of FSU better return men? Even my six-year old son would know better than to catch a punt inside the ten yard line...he'd just run away from it.

And without Shawn Andrews and LJ Smith. It also looked like they gave Will James the start over Sheldon Brown. I did see Brown in there in the 2nd quarter.I really like what I'm seeing out of Spikes. He seems to pick up screens quickly. Our LBs are faster and more athletic this year, but they are also young and it seems like they over-pursue a bit. This team could get beat with change of direction plays. But I did see Gocong totally pancake a lineman on a blitz (I think the interception play). The D-Line looked better too. I really like Trent Cole.Reggie Brown looked shakey last night. McNabb missed a few passes but he still looks good and mobile. The Eagles did a bunch of roll outs for him to get him throwing on the run. We'll see how the knee holds up.

I watched very little of this game, and my observation doesn't have much fantasy impact...but Kolb looks pretty good to me. I thought the Eagles were dumb on draft day, but I might have been very wrong (imagine a fan knowing less than NFL talent scouts).

Then again, Gradkowski is a preseaosn monster, too. But I liked what I saw in Kolb.

Steelers notes

1. If healthy for 14 games or more, Ben throws for over 4K and 23+ TDs.

2. They need to pick up the best punt/kick returner released on cutdown day. Cut Reid (agree with above). No need to lose 3 games this year because nobody can catch a punt.

3. Davenport looked good, but slow as hell. Carey Davis is equivalent to Davenport, I'm unimpressed w/ Russel but I'm in the minority. Keep Kreider, FWP, Davis and Russel/Davenport (depending on cap situation). I would say keep Haynes if I thought he could stay healthy for a year. BTW, I thought Davis looked sub-standard trying to lead block last nite, but he also looks like the most powerful short-yardage back we've got.

4. Timmons flubbed a tackle on Hunt in open space in the flat. FWIW, Hunt is a physical monster. Run power is about equivalent to AD.

5. Anthony Smith hits like a freakin' anvil sledge. I hope he is good enough in pass pro to unseat the unspectacular R.Clark.

6. Run blocking is hard to judge w/ all the shuffling going on, but I truly believe Hartings will be missed. I don't think Bunkley/Patterson are equivalent to Stroud/Henderson.

7. You don't want to be a ref @ a Steeler game. Two absolutely smashed, and the umpire was being run over by WRs over and over.

8. Batch is good enough to start for 1/2 of the teams in the NFL and the Steelers would have made the playoffs if Ben had been afforded more time to recover on the bench early last year and post-concussion.

9. Woodley and Timmons will remind you of Green/Lloyd sooner rather than later. I was dissapointed on draft day, but tempered my woes since the Steelers have proven to know more than me on draft day (I wanted S.Jackson over Big Ben and L.White over Holmes).

I really like Big Ben this year in fantasy. I think he will put up yards in bunches and get a lot of deep touchdowns. Im thinking about starting him over Cutler.
