“@TheJetsStream: WR Jerricho Cotchery has agreed to a two-year deal with the Steelers, per source. #nyj”
Im guessing we signed him for around $1.8M or slightly more, which works for me, but I havent seen the numbers yet. Cant be much more than that if he settled for WR3 for 2 more years here.Im surprised more teams werent interested in Cotch. His small numbers last year may have been a blessing in disguise.

WR4 is more like it.

He was brought in last year to be fifth on the depth chart, and this year he will be fourth behind Wallace, Brown, and Sanders. Book it. Still quality depth.

@EdBouchette: "@Legursky: I'm excited to announce i will remain a Pittsburgh Steeler next yr! Signed my contract this morning!" another stays

I'll book it when Sanders shows he can stay on the field.

I'd be happy if the bears give you a first rounder for Wallace.

Marshall and Wallace with Cutler zinging the ball.

Booyah.

No talk of the Wallace trade rumors?
I don't think it is likely to happen.
:goodposting: Steelers wont trade him unless they get a crazy offer
Depends what you think a 'crazy offer' is. If his demands remain static, there's no way he's a long term Steeler. Might as well get something for him now.
I'll take Wallace for 2012 or a portion thereof at below market value with increased odds at a playoff run plus a 3rd round comp pick when he leaves vs. whatever he might net in trade which is apparently less than a late first rounder and a diminished chance at a playoff run.I still believe they are able to lock him up to a Steve Johnson type contract come August-ish.

The rumors aren't being discussed much because, until we see names named, these "trade rumors" are likely nothing more than calculated blurbs being sprinkled to the media by Bus Cook. He's doing his job.

Agree. And no one is giving up a 1st for Wallace in trade and then pay him his asking price. If there were teams willing to do that they'd have already signed him as an RFA.

But this is the first 1st-round grade player they are looking at for a reason.
I think the only reason is.....that he happens to be the first 1st-round grade player that was available to be brought in. It has to be somebody every year. To read anything more into than that is pretty silly to me, unless we've got data supporting that 80% of the first 1st-round graded players that they bring in are who they draft in round one, or something. I'm guessing that probably isn't the case.

At any rate, I'll worry about Adams on draft day. Colbert was at the second 'Bama Pro Day today. Upshaw and Barron were a couple of the notable participants that he could have been watching.
I think Barron is a big sleeper possibility as our #1.He doesnt fill near our biggest need, but it is a position with zero depth and Troy & Clark are both around 30 if not past it. Barron to me looks like 1 of the cant miss players in this draft, although Im not quite sure how much of a difference making safety hell be. He will be a linchpin for any D, which is good enough for me, but I dont quite see him as transcendent safety. Hell, few are.
I think Barron is the type of player the Steelers could take at #1, too, if he is available. I wrote my reasoning here

Per theredzone.org, Redman signed an exclusive rights FA contract. Anyone know for how much/long?

Could be a good indicator of what they plan on doing with Mendy.

One year, $540k tender. Doesn't really put a lot of faith in Redman long term, which doesn't really say anything about what they are going to do with Mendy. I'm hoping that Mendy comes back in the second half of the season (fresh), and is a great "buy low" for the playoff push. 2013 and beyond is anyone's guess at this point.

I don't think it shows a lack of faith in Redman at all, I simply think it means they had the option to keep him for 540k and Redman didn't have any choices in the matter...so they kept him. As inexpensively as possible. If he doesn't sign his tender, as an ERFA, he doesn't play in the NFL this season. Period. Paying him more than that wouldn't make sense since he has no other options.Next year, he will be a RFA and they can retain his rights again without committing to him long term. If he proves something this year, he will have a little more leverage at that point. For now tho, there is zero reason to commit to Redman on anything more than a year to year basis.Draft day will tell us far more about Mendy's status than Redman's contract situation does. Personally, I think Mendenhall is 100% out the door before he sees C2 out of the Steelers, but a RB in the first three rounds would simply seal that deal.

@jimwexell: "@PatKirwanCBS terrific LB Mychal Kendricks Cal don't worry about size-next London Fletcher Could see him as Steeler" --Zierlein says same

Ryan Clark was great on ESPN yesterday. He owned Skip Bayless on 1st & 10 with how Skip called him slow, the Steelers secondary not being very good, and the defense being overrated. Ive never seen Skip keep his yap closed for so long and have nothing to counter with.

Once he hangs em up, I think Clark would be a great analyst or color announcer.

Steelers get the Ravens weeks 11 and 13.

Steelers Schedule
I can not reiterate enough how dumb it is to have PIT-BAL play each other twice in a 3 week span.
I'm also not a fan that a team with a week 4 bye then plays two games in 5 days following the bye.Although, it must be said that having the Week 6 TNF game allows the Steelers to have a semi-bye a little later in the season, which is good considering they have the earliest bye week. At least there is a positive aspect here.

Having the Steelers and Ravens play twice in a 15 day span makes it very possible that one injury to any of the key players on either side could have them miss both meetings. It's better than having the season series over in Week 9, but not by much.

If you haven't seen pics of the throwbacks for this season, do so swiftly at steelers.com
Awful
I believe they are designed to make the opponent laugh so hard, they lose concentration. :football:
Dear God, they're worse than I even imagined based upon your reactions.
Sad part is I think that's what they actually used to wear :barf:This picture however is awesomehttp://www.steelers.com/video-and-audio/photo-gallery/Terrible-Towel-Photos/289eeb6c-ad61-41cc-a19b-cde19694bdad

When will they be wearing these abominations?

Ravens twice in 3 weeks is insane. Who the hell thought of that? The NFL really is slipping under Goodell IMO.

I didnt dissect the schedule that deep yet, but wouldnt playing 2 games in 5 days be best coming off of a bye? Seems like they almost got a break there. Cant say Im shocked with the week 4 bye. Aside from last year, Steelers always seemed to get hosed with an early bye.As for your last paragraph, that was part of my thinking as well. If 1 team has a star player (or 2) injured at that point in the season, decent chance they miss both games. HUGE advantage for the healthy team. Of course if the Steelers have the advantage I wont be complaining, but its a dumb situation to put any team in.

I realize that the new labor agreement requires multiple days off on the bye week -- I think it's four days, Thursday-Sunday but I'm likely wrong -- but it would be far more ideal to have teams that play Thursday come off of a bye.Really, I'm against Thursday games being played all season long. I don't think the pros outweigh the cons. I want to see teams at their best, and it's impossible for me to believe that teams are ready to play on Thursday as well as they are on at least Saturday.

In the end, championship teams overcome obstacles; losing teams magnify them and allow them to be distractions. Coach Tomlin doesn't care, which is perfect.

Heard a rumor that there is ONE player who the Steelers graded as among the very best prospects (top 10) in the draft that they realistically think might be there at #24. A person who was not brought in for an interview and that also "isn't really a position of need". Evidently it has led to some contentious in-house discussions regarding the situation.

Wait, there are Thursday games every week this season?

Yep - Up I think Week 15 is the last Thursday game

Here is the most recent list I could find of who weve brought in:1.Jerrell Harris, LB, Alabama

2.Keith Tandy, CB, West Virgina

3.Brandon Brooks, OG, Miami (Ohio)

4.Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

5.T.Y. Hilton, WR, Florida International

6.Derek Wolfe, DL, Cincinnatti

7.Isaiah Pead, RB, Cincinnatti

8.Bobby Massie, OT, Mississippi State

9.Michael Egnew, TE, Missouri

10.Akiem Hicks, DT, Regina (Canada)

11.Nick Perry, LB, USC

12.Mychal Kendricks, LB, California

13.Cameron Jackson, LB, Virginia

14.Olivier Vernon, LB, Miami

15.Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama

16.LaMichael James, RB, Oregon

17.David Paulson, TE, Oregon

18.Amini Silatolu, OG, Midwestern State

19.Hebron Fangupo, DT, BYU

20.Jeremy Jones, S, Wayne State

21.Andre Branch, DE/OLB, Clemson

22.Keshawn Martin, WR, MSU

23.John Hughes, NT, Cincinnati

24.Ladarius Green, TE, Louisiana-Lafayette

25.Stephen Hill, WR, GT

26.Mitchell Schwartz, OT, California

27.Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis

28.Adrien Robinson, TE, Cincinnati

29.Kelvin Beachum, OG, Southern Methodist

30.Greg Childs, WR, Arkansas

31.Toney Clemons, WR, Colorado

I thought the limit was 30 but I found a list of 20 from a few days ago and tracked down the rest.

As for the player in question, it pretty much has to be Mark Barron, no? Only other guys I could think of would be TE Coby Fleener (they did bring 4 TE's in) or a WR like Kendall Wright or Reuben Randle but those 3 would almost definitely be there at 24 and it would be a big stretch for the Steelers to have any of them top 10 overall.

Love that they brought Childs in. I think he'd be a great pick in the 4th or 5th round.

I don't think Barron would fit that ideal, as he is certainly been considered a guy who is going before 24 all the way through.Fleener, Wright and Randle certainly fit that mold. In that vein of WRs, maybe a Stephen Hill.

OLB? CB?

*** edit I see Hill was on the "visited" list which rules him out.
