I haven't watched much of the Panthers this season, so can any Panthers Homers chime in... How is their offensive line?
Kalil is generally considered one of the top centers. Turner and Norwell are two very highly rated guards. Oher has been pretty decent. Remmers is average in pass protection but good in the running game.

Right on. Thanks for the feedback. Suffice it to say significantly better than New England's O Line.

If Denver's defense is healthy, I don't see how this game isn't close. They're the best defense in football and one of the better defenses of this generation. Cam may be able to neutralize some of it with his running abilities but he will be forced to make some errant throws. However, Manning is going to get clobbered and better play a whole lot better than he did against N.E. Unfortunately, I don't think that's possible at this stage of his career. I still think Denver's D is dominant enough to keep this an exciting game. I definitely don't see a repeat of Seattle/Denver.

It seems that people are projecting a Panthers' victory for all the same reasons most were projecting a Patriots' victory today. Hmmm... I like it.
I get what you're saying. The main difference for me, is that you know how to shut down Brady, it's been seen a handful of times before. Get pressure, make him move around the pocket. I think that's where a guy like Cam thrives. He can run, he can throw accurately on the move. He has probably the strongest arm in the league. He has Ginn to keep the defense backed up. In fact pressure is what you DON'T want to do to Cam. Per ESPN:

A word of advice for Broncos DC Wade Phillips: Leave the blitzes at home. Yes, the Broncos are third in Total QBR allowed when they bring five or more pass rushers, but they're also fifth when they play it straight. And Newton torches blitzing defenses. Consider this: 23.3 percent of Newton's completions vs. the blitz went for 20 yards or more, compared with just 13.9 percent when defenses didn't bring heat.

I think I will take Wade's analysis over espn.

I can say this much. I don't think Denver has a very good chance of winning if Demaryius Thomas continues with this disappearing act that he's been pulling. I just don't see Denver's tightends being a big factor given Carolina's linebackers. I don't see the running game being much different than it was today given Carolina's front 7. And Emanuel can't do it all on his own. I'll also add that if Hillman continues to get such a large chunk of the running back snaps I'm going to lose my f****** mind. Anderson is miles better.

I really don't get the hate a lot of people seem to feel toward Cam. To me he just seems like a guy who loves playing football and being part of a team and is just out there having a blast every second he's on the field. Those are all good things.

Agreed. I also don't get the Cam hate.

Much respect to Carolina. Great year. However, Denver has been there and knows what is in store. Cam and the Panthers WILL face their greatest challenge yet. The D3nver defense is unlike anything they have faced all season. Dont give me the Arizona defense crap.
It's different but not necessarily better than the Seahawks D, whom the panthers beat twice.
Seattles defense this year is not on the same level as Denvers. Period.
Stats disagree, but okay.
When you face St. Louis and San Fran for one fourth of your schedule, it tends to skew those statistics. Ya know?
Is that more or less difficult than facing San Diego and the Raiders? Honest question, as I find it very, very close. I'd say San Diego is easily the worst team out of the four, however.

I just think we're in the middle of a generational shift. I feel most of Cam's fans come from the younger generation. The old "get off my lawn" type don't like to see all the energy and playing to the camera. God forbid a young man playing a young man's game with a young man's energy. They'd just prefer you give the ball back to the ref. Brett got the same hate when he was playing.

Cam reminds me of T.O.

Both are charismatic, both have infectious smiles, both are super obnoxious unless you're a fan of them/their team.

The Broncos pash rush against a mostly stationary Brady was a huge factor. The Broncos pass rush against Cam isn't going to have quite as big of an impact. The Broncos have a great defense, but they can be scored on.

We'll have to see what happened to Thomas Davis' arm, but the Panthers defense is going to have it's way with the Broncos offense. They won't be able to run the ball, Norman will take away Thomas, and the pass rush is going to make life very difficult for Manning to throw anything down the field. Not that Manning looks good doing that anyways... he missed a few clear opportunties for TDs today with poor throws.

Respect the hell out of Peyton and I'll hate to see him go out this way, but this is the Panthers' year. That upset loss to the Falcons is going to sting...

Panthers 26, Broncos 13
Yes, playing in the Super Bowl in your last game ever is such a terrible way to go out. Almost every player in the game would LOVE to lose the super bowl in their last ever game.

Love Cam calling Peyton "The Sheriff" when he found out he was playing him. Seemed genuine. Seemed truly respectful of him.

Agreed. I thought his response was genuine and classy.
It was cool but he knew who won the AFC game before kickoff. The "No Way" was more of a "I know, can you believe it?" Kind of thing.I'm rooting for the old man to get another ring, but I see Carolina winning by 7+.

Speaking of TO, he tweeted this earlier:Terrell Owens (@terrellowens) tweeted at 6:37 PM on Sun, Jan 24, 2016:

Just caught the end of the 3rd & closing seconds of regulation. Congrats to Broncos but gotta say #PatsNation coulda used me today

Did he? He was presumably busy getting ready for his game and not watching the scoreboard. Now, if he just looked up at the big screen in the stadium he probably would have seen the score but maybe he's just focused?

So what happens to Manning's legacy if he loses in yet another Super Bowl? 4 Super Bowl appearances and only 1 win??
nothing really. He has a ring, shouldn't be penalized for making it to the big game three other times. He's a top 5 all-time QB no matter what happens. His story will be better if he wins, but it shouldn't be tarnished if his team loses.

Same here. Granted, I don't watch a lot of Carolina games, so maybe there's something I've missed. To me it just seems like the guy is enjoying what he does and showing it on the field. Works for me.

I don't think Manning's legacy will be enhanced by going out and throwing for 150 yards, 3 int's and losing the SB by 20, points. I'm amazed that people think this game is going to be close. Seattle's defense is better than Denver's ( don't give me Denver's one year wonder stats) and Carolina put up over 30 on them. The way Cam, the special teams and defense are playing I'll be shocked if this game is within double digits. I think it's going to be a loooong day for Peyton.

Seattle is the hottest team in the NFL. No way Panthers can win. Legion of Boom. Be afraid Beastmode is back.

Oh no really Arizona is the best team in the NFL going to win the Super Bowl after they beat the Panthers. Panthers won't be able to run or stop Arizonas offense with the unstoppable Fitz.
Excuse me, but you don't get to play the "no respect" card when you are favored by 4.5.

Denver defense won't be able to pin their ears back like they did vs New England. Carolina actually hands the ball off to running backs, unlike either team in the AFCCG.

Watching Miller, Wolfe, and Ware just turn loose every play yesterday was brutal. Did the Pats O-line have a bad day? Sure. But it really kind of helps that every time the Pats breaks the huddle, the Denver sideline can yell to the defenders 'PASS!!!'

It won't get much play, especially from Pats fans, that will be happy to blame Cannon etc., but when you tell Von Miller to not worry about the run, he's going to make most OTs look bad.

That game looked like two rickety QBs dinking and dunking their way down the field, relying on savvy. Watching the Panthers the last two weeks is like watching a different level of football.

Kalil didn't come back in after he got hurt yesterday. Any update on him?

I'm hearing Davis (LB) will play despite the broken arm he suffered yesterday.

Denver has a pretty good defense. While you make some valid points here I don't think game flow/game plan alone allowed them to be successful. They have been pretty solid against the run all year. IIRC the only RBs who had success against them were Charles and ADP (Gore also had decent production but low YPC.) The entire line is pretty good, not just the edge rushers. And I give their DBs a big advantage over the Panthers receiving corps.

This feels like Carolina's year. They are just imposing their will on people. JStew is effective, Olsen is very good, they have some outstanding defenders, and Cam is playing at a very high level. Seems like they should win easily, I can't see Manning keeping up. But the one hope for Denver fans and what has been the key to their whole season is a very good overall defense that can do a lot of things really well. Good against the run, great pass rush, superb defenders on the back end. They could keep it close.

But in the end I think the Panthers just have too much on both sides of the ball. Manning versus that defense tilts heavily in the favor of Carolina.

This. Denver did not have to respect the run at all yesterday. Carolina presents a whole new set of problems that no one in the NFL can replicate to the level that Carolina does it. It just seems like their year. Carolina 27 Denver 13

Just to pick nits, but ADP got 48 of his 81 yards on a 4th and 1 play. Entire Bronco D was on the line to stuff him there - once he made it thru the hole there was no one left. The rest of the game he had 33 yards on 15 carries. Jamal Charles was really the only RB to give the D a hard time. He had the only 100 yard game.

Yeah, and they completely shut down DeAngelo at a time when he was running roughshod over everyone. That D is legit.

The Denver defense is legit and have been very good all year. But their defense won't be able to keep Peyton from the sack-fumble when his pocket collapses.

I don't see how Denver can win. Manning's arm is cooked. His long throw to Sanders, was underthrown a good 3 to 5 yards, but Sanders came back and stole it. The Denver O-line is substandard, at best. The Denver defense, excellent though it is has a unique challenge in that Newton is very mobile and very hard to bring down. Do they have to sacrifice rush and middle of the field defense to keep a spy on him?

Denver has not been this apparently outmatched heading into a Super Bowl since they met the Packers.

I believe Carolina will win, and handily, but sometimes, and it is great when this happens, the lesser team athletically finds that experience and will can overcome weaknesses. Sometimes, for one game, greatness can be recaptured, experience and character can win out. I am looking forward to the game and am grateful to Denver for sparing us another Patriots appearance in the big game.

Anything can happen but Palmer was behind a far better Ol than Manning is and Carolina was all over him. NE D is no comparison to Carolina and they were all over Manning. This should be ugly for Manning.

I suspect you are correct. Of course we do not know the status of some important cogs on the Panther's defense right now. I'm hoping both teams get to relatively good health for the game. Good luck to both teams, and to both of their fan bases.

I agree that the Denver defense is legit but so is the Panthers rushing offense.

Carolina has rushed for at least 100 yards in 31 consecutive games.

Panthers look to roll. Their lines on both sides of the ball have been performing at an optimal level for this time of the season. The OL is performing to an elite status and with Cam and 2 solid backs in addition to an all pro TE and a set of capable receivers I think that CAR can punch through the Denver defense enough to win this game. The Panther defense will give the Broncos fits but if there is a flaw with this defense - it is going to be its inability to sustain leads at times. If Manning takes a few hits he will be rattled to the point of being ineffective to a comeback.

The only intangible I see in this game is the Manning factor and the NFL "entertainment" factor. I am sure that the NFL and Vegas would love nothing more than to see Manning win this game to sunset his career in style. Manning can be billed as all class while Cam (MVP) can be billed as a pure ### clown.

Halftime show? I always turn it off in addition to the pregame glut of unnecessary rhetoric. The SB should be played on a Saturday with no halftime show.

The 1976 Buccaneers offense (whose coach, John McKay, famously replied when asked about their execution: "I'm all in favor of it") were shut out 5 times in a 14 game season, averaged fewer than 9 ppg and actually had a game where their QB's combined to complete 3 passes. That's for an entire game, not a half. They matched their completion total in that game with 3 interceptions. And the '76 Bucs might not be the worst offense ever.San Francisco was bad and beat up, but not really close to the worst offense ever. And their offensive output was limited by the fact that they played in a division against three teams with dominant D's (at least while Honey Badger was playing). Arizona's secondary with Matthieu was the best in football, and St. Louis might have the nastiest front seven in football. The NFC West is still a nightmare, but San Francisco has taken a giant step backward. The AFC west is softer on the whole. As is the AFC in general.

Actually Kalil was in for the rest of the game. Announcers were talking about how he didn't look hurt at all. Gross joked about it and they are super close. I don't think he'd make a joke if it was to serious.

Just pointing out how familiar the analysis is.
