Why would anyone doubt a fight can be fixed by paying a fighter when fights are obviously fixed all the time by buying the freaking judges?!

Dirrells corner was a mess.  VIrgil not even in the ring.  took like a minute to get the stool out to him every round.  That ending looked suspect.  smdh.

Whoa. Wilder showed some serious heart there. Can Ortiz keep this up? He's got to put Wilder away before he punches himself out.

It definitely exceeded my expectations, despite some early lulls.

In terms of making Joshua-Wilder sooner, it could not have gone better- whetted the public's appetite with fearsome power by Wilder while still making him seem vulnerable and beatable in the eyes of the Joshua camp.

Also I would have been furious had I watched the HBO fights live and Showtime after instead of the other way around.  Lampley gave away the results of Wilder-Ortiz during their telecast.

Agree. Even with some of Wilder's limitations on display, this fight really raised his stock here in the States.

Ortiz seemed like he may have been a hell of a fighter when younger, why did he wait until he was 38 for a meaningful fight?

It takes two to tango. Cuba has the best amateur program in the world, they typically are smooth, beautiful fighters. Doesnt always translate to the pros, and they typically have trouble garnering interest.

And Ortiz's stated age is almost certainly far lower than his real one.

There are some good HW prospects on the horizon, Yoka and Hrgovic most notably. And the two finalists in the cruiserweight wbss final, gassiev and usyk (do not miss this fight) both seem likely to move up. I think either would dust Wilder.

Ortiz and Wilder made for an entertaining scrap, but Wilder literally cannot box in the conventional sense, and Ortiz might be 45 years old. Both are inarguably top 5 hw's.

Wilder was losing this fight until the knockdowns and might have lost it had it gone the distance.  Defensively, he is a mess and he simply waits for the big knockout punch without doing much else. I'm still waiting for Wilder to get exposed and he almost did against an actual decent fighter.

Not to mention he had to defect in order to turn pro.

Not mentioned in this thread thus far is the failed drug test by Canelo ahead of his rematch with GGG.

Link
GPJ did, albeit subtly.  Common in Mexico for beef consumption to result in a positive for this substance, which is banned for cattle in the U.S. and Mexico but not there.

Apparently the amount that Canelo had in his system was thousands of times less than what you see with normal Clenbuterol doping, and is more consistent with bad meat. He'll probably be ok on this one. Hell, it's in the hands of NSAC now, we know he'll be fine no matter what.

I don't know if anyone's watching this fight on ESPN, Valdez/Quigg, but it's one hell of a slugfest.  One of the most action-packed fights I've seen in some time.
