***Official Sweet Science Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Yeah, that is not a given for Wilder.  I really hope he wins and think he will but Povetkin will pose real problems, and good luck getting a decision in Moscow.
Povetkin is a little short (6-2) so he could have trouble in this age of massive HW, but he's a skilled fighter with plenty of power. I don't know what the lines are, but I'd bet Povetkin there.

Povetkin highlights

Bradley tonight. I think Manny just isn't special anymore. Tim can be busy and outwork Manny.
Yea i think bradley is better than he was in the past two fights.  Im not sure what Manny we will see.  Assuming Manny was indeed injured in the mayweather fight, maybe we see Manny back to his old self.  A little older but still able to outwork Bradley.  Or, maybe hes past his prime and not special any longer.  Im not sure honestly.  I think Manny will leave it all in the ring and that will give him the win.  Should be a good fight either way.

Looked like the thread title needed an update fellas  :boxing:

Interested to see the fight tonight, I can see both ilov and pinky's thought processes panning out and that would in all liklihood be why that fighter won. Im leaning Bradley but if its truly Pacman's last fight and he knows it then he could be special again for a night.

Welcome back. How you been?

Don't think the Mayweather fight's gonna happen, but Pacquiao looked surprisingly good. I think the fight was up in the air until the knockdowns, and that kind of sealed it. Bradley didn't do near enough to try and get a desperation KO.

I missed the fight, will have to wait for the replay.  Sou.ds like the Pac of old showed up.

Absent Mayweather, is there anyone who can lure him into one more fight?  Canelo at 155 pethaps?

Canelo would absolutely destroy PacMan.

Mayweather would embarrass him into retirement.

GGG would leave PacMan a crumpled mess.

Not sure who Pacman can fight next...maybe Broner...but who cares.

I really can't see another fight for Pacman...most that we'd want to see...he'd lose, handily.

The one's he'd win...who cares.

Just stay retired.

I am very skeptical of him being done. I know he wants to focus more on politics and this "retirement" might be part of his Senate campaign to show he will focus completely on his country. I still have a hard time seeing him pass up another massive fight- especially one in his home country where he could draw. I think GGG and Floyd would easily beat Manny. I think the Canelo fight could be interesting. Manny against the winner of Thurman or Porter would be a huge fight. Crawford would be a great great fight. If Khan somehow beats Canelo, then he would be a logical opponent. There are plenty of big time options. Manny is a gatekeeper and guys like Kell Brook or Danny Garcia could use a chance to beat Manny to crossover into potential mainstream consciousness.  Manny vs Provodnikov or Viktor Postol would just be plain fun.

I have no interest in ever seeing Mayweather fight again.
thats because he doesnt ''fight'' he just moves and pops little baby punches and moves again...i respect the art of boxing where hitting and not getting hit is the main objective  ...and he is an artist in that respect...but something about him leaves me feeling so unimpressed and unfulfilled after each and every fight...he could go back in time and fight any of the  greatest legends in his division and and i still would have zero interest in seeing  it

You guys are underestimating those "pops" and "baby punches".

Those same blips turned the machismo Canelo into a non-punching defensive fighter who barely engaged all fight long because he was eating them every time he tried.

Wonderful night of fights. Algieri vs US Olympian Errol Spence coming up once NBC and then Gary Russell on Showtime.

Nothing he was doing worked. It wasn't like he was getting hurt and was in any danger of being knocked out, but Mayweather was so good that he literally beat him to the punch almost every time. Mayweather was incredible, but when was the last fight where he dropped someone, aside from Ortiz?

Not taking anything away from him, but I understand the criticism of his style. Effective as it was.

+1 on Spence, he is an issue. He's not gonna be on free television for much longer.

Showtime card off to a nice start. Swiifty Smith and Pedraza are getting after it.  I feel like Pedraza should win, but the Brits are on a high note in boxing right now so Swifty might just pull something out.

i bet you that history will not be kind to Floyds legacy

I think it will be neutral. He never had a real foil like Ali or Joe Louis had. It seemed like he used his position to avoid certain fighters at certain points. In the end, he never came close to losing, He beat Manny, Oscar, Canelo, Cotto, Hatton, Mosley, etc. These are some of the best of the best of the era. IMO, he will be remembered for being so good and so tough to hit that he made great fighters boring.

I think Mayweather's transgressions as a human being will ding him more, historically, than his style. I don't think he'll ever be considered as great as Ali, Robinson, Louis, etc. But maybe the next tier down.
