BTW i already respect his boxing abilities...hes a scientist who takes no risks because he doesnt have to...hes never been in a situation where he had to score a KO to win...hes always so far ahead on the score cards he just has to move and box every fight...thats talent ...boring ...but talent...i root against him because of his personality

I honestly think Canelo has what it takes to beat him. Just needs to not worry about getting knocked out and just fight. He already lost to him...so that bravado is out the door...just make it a street fight. And bang the body, for God's sake.

GGG also has the tools...but I still think Mayweather gets him. He just has the experience in knowing how to disarm his opponent and get them out of their comfort zone.

I'd love to see a Canelo rematch or GGG.

Anything else...is just a forgone conclusion.

If this was 4-5 years ago, and Berto had a couple of big wins coming up to the possibility of a PBF fight Id be OK with it, but now that fight is a joke. Berto is 2-2 over the last 2 years against average to above average competition. One of those losses is to Robert Guerrero who Floyd crushed yet beat Berto 116-110 on all 3 cards. Not to mention Thurman just smoked Guerrero earlier this year.

I mostly agree that outside of GGG, everything is anticlimactic. I think that's the main reason the May-Pac fight took so long to happen. Berto isn't even in my top 10 for any weight class, it's a joke. If it's not GGG, give me Canelo, Cotto, Thurman or Bradley.

Those would pretty much be my top 4 opponents for him as well.. I thought and still think Canelo took that fight 1 year/2 big fights too early...I think beating Lara is probably his best win, although decisive the Kirkland fight isnt as impressive to me as it wouldve been a few years back. Id definitely like to see a rematch there regardless.

Conor McGregor has no issue stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Last night McGregor appeared on Conan and talked about a hypothetical match-up between himself and the undefeated boxer.

McGregor jumped at the question and said he would absolutely take a fight with him. He said why wouldn’t he accept $180 million to dance around, referring to the lack of ‘action’ many fans complained about after Mayweather vs. Pacquiao went down.

“If you’re asking would I like to fight Floyd, who would not like to dance around the ring for $180 million? I certainly know he would not want to step into my world, the world of pure unarmed combat where there is no limitations, but I would most certainly step into his world. If Wilder wins as expected, might this set up a de facto heavyweight unification tourney among the top names in the division? Fury v. Klitschko and Wilder v. Povetkin, with the winners facing off?

Wilder's plan to fight another schlub (probably Chris Arreola) in September and then Povetkin next year. Can't blame him after inconsistent he was against Molina.

Seems to be setting up nicely for Wilder, who will presumably be going against a 36 yo Povetkin and 40 year old Klitschko on his way to unifying the heavyweight title.

Canelo and Cotto are fighting each other, so they're out. But they're fighting each other, so that's good!

And in a boxing match, McGregor would have no chance against Mayweather. I mean come on. But let him try I guess, I mean it would be entertaining at least.

Its more that its getting free exposure on prime time TV...and the match ups are pretty good for the most part....but i gotta say ...i was going back and forth sat nite between the Thurman fight card and UFC 189 and the difference in energy level was off the hook...even my friends were like zzz when the boxing was on ,and they are boxing fans ...but on the flip side , if that was one of the Ward vs Gatti fights on it would have had the same intensity as the UFC card

I missed this fight but considering he was up on the cards big (90-77, 89-78 x 2), had 3 knockdowns in earlier rounds and then KO'd him in the 9th, why do you say this?

Having an overarching organization that controls everything and makes big fights happen is a definite +. Boxing promoters want to protect their fighters and keep the money trains rolling, and not risk them too much until it's necessary. That's why DLH says that a Canelo/GGG fight is two years down the road. GGG is past 30, but DLH is being smart and wants to get him when he's a step slower (and maybe when GGG's profile is higher?). Good for the promoters, not great for fans.

I guess the flipside is that no MMA guy is ever going to have a chance at making the kind of money that the top boxers make, especially the superstars.

Makes sense on one level - put a fringe contender vs TBE on CBS and set a record for the most watched fight in history.

However...

While there is no longer that one must-face opponent, there are plenty of deserving opponents that are being leapfrogged, even without May jumping to middleweight.

#1 is Kell Brook. Undefeated, hugely popular in the U.K., and would produce some entertainment value in the fight.

#2 is Thurman. Young, solid all-around, and may be a relatively difficult style for Floyd to engage in a chessmatch with.

#3 is the junior middle Erislandy Lara, who Canelo squeaked by but has beaten big names and just might be able to outbox Floyd (don't forget Floyd has the real junior middle title and should be pressed to defend it against junior middles sometimes).

#4 (perhaps higher - YMMV) is TImothy Bradley. I am not his biggest defender, but he is somewhat of a name, is a proficient boxer who brings action. Also, he is 1-1 vs Pacquaio and is otherwise undefeated.

#5 is Amir Khan. Despite his callouts, I don't think he has earned the shot vs Floyd but he is more deserving than Berto. If I were Khan, I would have offered to take CBS money for the fight because it seems like now or never for him.

Don't get me wrong - TBE would be favored against any of these guys and rightfully so. But any of these 5 deserve a shot much more and would all make a better matchup.

Agreed.

That said, I guess Mayweather can do whatever the #### he wants. He doesn't care about the belts themselves, they seem almost immaterial to him at this point. It's the worst thing about boxing, each fighter is his own fiefdom.
