**Official** "The Office" Thread (1 Viewer)

It was kind of neat to "meet" someone from the documentary crew.
We've definitely heard them off camera before, right? Was this just the first time in front of the lens? Or hasn't that happened too, once?
was it just me, or was his hand rubbing pam's leg?
It looked like he was into her. I hope that she isn't his "real" wife and this documentary is all fake. Then again, why would she be crying.

So Steve Carell said he isn't returning to The Office for the finale based on his character arch being over. I understand but still a little saddened by that. I think even if he doesn't come back to the actual Office it would be a nice little reveal to watch him watching his Office friends on the documentary show, keeping in touch through the television show that was "finally" produced.
i should think anyone who's continued to follow The Office til now would have a much deeper disappointment threshold than that....
The show is still entertaining for the most part. It is still one of my top 3 shows I look forward to seeing every week.
wish i could say the same - its become progressively unwatchable since Carrell & i miss it. tuned in for the beginning the last couple wks (since they've had P&R following 30 Rock again) but didnt made it past the credits either time.

I know Jim and Pam are gonna end up together but I'm a little shocked they threw a new love interest in on the last season.

Which begs the question: does anyone think Jim and Pam are going to end up apart? No. So it's pretty weak.

They ruined any chance of one of them cheating on the other when Jim blew off Pam's replacement when Pam was pregnant.

Hate this angle. I would have been completely cool with them getting rid of this entire storyline and focusing on each of the smaller characters for an episode instead.

Counterpoint: Only way to really go out with a bang at this point is a Pam/soundguy affair. Very unlikely and against conventional thinking for an ending, but it would certainly be memorable.

Agreed. Pam and Jim's love actually have dept in this show unlike the other characters relationship. Having one or the other cheat would destroy who they are on the show.I'm also confused by the writing. I'm not sure if they are trying to make Jim the bad guy or Pam the #####y wife?

Sounds like good writing to me.What means 'dept' ?

I think the past few eps have been pretty good. I think they should have gone with Dwight as the boss from the get-go. Having more "normal" characters (Pete, Dwight Jr.) has helped, as well. For the record, the decline started well before Carrell left the show - when they morphed Michael into Homer Simpson and turned all of the side characters into cartoons.

I don't think Pam and Jim stay together. Jim leaves for Philly and Pam stays in Scranton.
would they really piss on the show's legacy like that? I know they've spent the last five years pissing on it, but who's going to buy DVDs for season two knowing how it really ends?

That guy probably means depth. He's an idiot.

That's the thing. I think they are trying to make Jim the bad guy, but I don't think he's doing anything wrong. I guess I'm going with Pam is a #####y wife

My only thinking is that they're going to try (again) to recreate the end to the British Office. Pam & Jim drift apart, but at the end, Jim rips off his microphone, goes into the conference room, says something which we can't hear, and they kiss and live happily ever after.

Michael driving the car into the pond because the GPS told him to comes to mind here.

I don't think they are trying to make either of them the bad guy. I think they are trying to make it realistic and simulate things that happen in real life.Jim realizes his career is non-existent and sees an opportunity to do something he always wanted and to provide for his family. He feels guilty and is t forthcoming with the details and gets in without really thinking about things like investing 10k. He is enjoying his work and not really thinking too much about bow hard it is on his wife.

Pam loves her husband and is hurt that he would try to hide anything from her. She's as supportive as she can be but gets mad when he seems to takes her for granted. He's away a lot and she leans on a male friend in a time of crisis and realizes the friend has feelings for her. She also realizes she's been feeling neglected and probably enjoys the attention, even if she feels guilty about it.

Personally, I think this is one of the better story lines they've had in a while. It has some basis in reality unlike the mobile office episode.

Sounds great, except this used to be one of the funniest sitcoms I've ever seen, not a relationship drama. The show was awesome because of the ridiculous, inappropriate and hilarious things Michael would say and do. Jim and Pam and much of the rest of the office played his straight man. Then you had assorted oddballs like Kevin, Dwight and Kelly to say and do other crazy/stupid/funny things, and it rounded out the whole quirky ensemble vibe. It worked perfectly.I was over Jim and Pam once it was clear they were together for good. And since then, everything has gone more or less perfectly for them, to the point they have become really boring. To show them having a bump in the road in their final season is kind of pointless because no one believes their marriage is in any danger, but more importantly, IT ISN'T FUNNY.

The show ahould have kept the Michael Scott Paper Company plot permanent. The dynamic with Michael, Ryan and Pam was great. Having Dight be a rival and having jim have an SOB for a boss were nice touches. Then they hit the reset button back to stale, befor ethey really got awful with the whole Sabre thing

I thought the subtle references to Michael having a crush on Ryan were :lmao:

I'll agree it isn't that funny anymore. I'll disagree that it's not a relationship drama. Like it or not, the Jim/Pam story line has been central to the entire show, the one constant. The relationship itself wasn't ever used for comedy but as a catalyst for other things. The show was always a comedy but the better comedies throw relationship dynamics into the mix. Problem with the Office is that the show shoulda stopped awhile ago. It's funny, you are complaining that it was great because the characters did stupid and whacky things. Other posters complained it jumped the shark when Michael only did stupid and whacky things.

I don't have a problem with putting some angst into the Jim/Pam storyline although I agree how it's being handled isn't funny. My biggest beef is they finally show us some of the people making this documentary (totally unnecessary by the way; it wasn't a burning question I always wanted answered) and the one they show us just happens to be madly in love with Pam. Feels forced and contrived.I'm seriously bummed Carell won't be coming back. The show should've ended when he left but it would be great if he at least returned for the finale. I keep hoping he might sneak in as a surprise.

Stupid that they go through the whole search to replace him, then the actor that wins the part leaves the show. Same thing with Kal Penn's Kutner and Olivia Wilde as 13 on House.

Is Ed Helms gone for good? Trying to turn Andy into another Michael was another gigantic blunder. Only served to underscore how great Carell was, how much he was missed and how important Michael was to the show.ETA - or were you referring to Spader?

Still a lot of loose ends to wrap up in the last ten episodes:-Why has this office been filmed for nine years? What will happen with the footage? I honestly have no idea what will happen with this.-Will Jim and Pam end up separated? I think the obvious answer is "no", but who will sacrifice this time for the sake of the relationship? Could watching the documentary help them appreciate each other again?-Will Jim's business fail? Who will provide additional capital?-Will Andy continue to be jerk Andy or revert to being nice guy Andy? What happens with Erin?-What will happen with Dwight and Angela? I suspect they will end up together after Angela dumps the senator. Who is the baby's father?-Who is the Scranton Strangler? There have been some strong clues tying this to Toby, but too obvious?-How will Michael tie into the ending? I agree that he will not show up in the office, but I could see him watching the documentary footage as we get an update on him and Holly.I've enjoyed this season after an awful season eight. Not on par with seasons 2-6, but solid television.

He left to film "Hangover 3", but he's still contractually part of the show, so if he wraps the movie in time he can return for the last run of episodes.

They have already had an episode about that, so unless they change the results, the Dwight is not the father.

The Office is syndicated, right? I almost never see it on.30 Rock's everywhere, GB.
It was syndicated, but I think Big Bang took it's spot in every time slot I can think of. Friends still has plenty of air time.

Lately the writing and even how some of the characters behave seem completely disconnected from earlier seasons. Dwight in particular is all over the place, is he distrustful, conniving, yet kind of clueless, or is he a downright sociopath, or borderline delusional? And Andy to a lesser extent, though he's not even on the show anymore. The later characters added to the show are weak in my opinion too, the British lady and the IT dudes especially. Erin was never great in my opinion. Kevin, Creed, Toby and Meredith have had some of the funniest one-liners over the years and continue to be underutilized. I find myself not really caring too much how they wrap up all the storylines, since now it just feels like a bunch of actors and writers stuck with something really bad and unfunny. But I'm compelled to watch after it was my favorite show for so long.

It was an interesting episode. I'm glad they are putting the whole Andy thing to rest. I really can't believe they have changed his character so drastically. Glad they are addressing the Jim and Pam thing.

Moreso than ever with Andy this weekend, as iamsmilin alluded to, they're drastically changing characters' personalities to create storylines. Even Jim, to some extent. The new Andy is just beyond horrible.

The change in Andy's character really isn't that surprising when you go back and watch his character from the start. He was always kind of a jerk, but kind of softened once he realized that he was just gonna be another salesman at the Scranton location. But since becoming boss, the jerk in him has come back out, and let's face it, that happens a lot: someone who was just one of the guys gets promoted, starts power tripping and gets a major attitude now that he considers his former peers now beneath him.

Hold on, are you guys saying The Nard Dog is back? That's awesome. I hated when they turned Andy to a wuss.

Originial Andy was hilarious.
