After an iffy start, this series got really good.

Sledge / Snafu are easily the most interesting guys.

Wow, that is some poweful stuff. I need to read his book.
Yes you do, anyone who hasn't should. Not to pimp but Amazon.com is running a special on Sledge & Leckie's books right now, get em both for $18 or so.
How is Leckie's book? I really did not find his character all that enjoyable and it didn't seem very believable at times compared to Sledge. I really enjoyed the Sledge portion of this miniseries and kind of wished they just covered his story.

Just as good.As has been discussed to make this series work was difficult because it was pretty hard to find anyone that went through more than one battle let alone two. Sledge mentioned in the audio link I posted today that he along with 10 others were the only men from his company that walked off Okinawa not wounded. Don't remember specifically what the company size was by then, probably less than 100 but still an amazing feat.

At first I didn't like the guy playing Sledge, thought he didn't fit, but then as he changed I thought he nailed it. He absolutely nailed the hunting scene.

Great series that just kept getting better. The line by Sledge at veterans adminstration line really captured the difference of some men's experiences and others.

Also, loved the ending with the pictures of the actors and the men.

It's so odd that they would change up that scene from reality. I don't get some of the producer's decisions sometimes. It's like they saw fit to tell most of his story, but not necessarily in chronological order or in the locations where they happened. (sometimes both)

Agreed seems odd but think it conveyed what I have heard about what he said.

Glad I downloaded it and watched it alone. Holy cow were some of those experiences touching to say the least. It was also "disturbing" to see how some people reacted to the returning men. I know the parents and people were not in full understanding of what they went through and all but how naive they were was something else.

Sledge, I wish he were still alive. I would not mind having a cup of coffee with that guy even if we were silent the whole time. GB all of them.

The only character I did not like much was the sarcastic, dry talker. The guy who did not speak to his fellow veterans for 35 years until reading Sledge's book. I guess I did not like him much because I know his actions and reactions to everything that was shown by him, even the 35 years of silence, is how I would react to the whole situation. Probably nothing out there but I would not mind knowing more about that guy.

I won't say The Pacific is better than Band of Brothers but I sure learned more from The Pacific. Kudos to Hanks and whomever else for, what I know, depicting the war accurately as possible.

agreed. Not sure if "eye opening" is the right term, but I really gave me a different look at things. Prior books/movies really didn't capture it as well as The Pacific.

got both Sledge and Leckie books on the way.

Overall this was pretty good. I thought it was a little strange they pretty much skipped over Iwo Jima but whatever.
Yeah, that was strange, but there was so much to cover you couldn't do it all justice in just 10 episodes.A better question is why only 10 episodes, why not 15 or 20?

cost
Seriously?Doesn't more shows = more view time = longer HBO subscriptions and more $$?Or is the ROI capped out at 10 episodes?:thumbup:Cheap ### Hanks and Spielberg. If they really cared they'd do it out of pocket.

Got this over the weekend and wiped it out in 3 days. Wow, what an amazing miniseries. I remember watching the first few episodes and not loving it, but I was wrong. Fantastic and heart-wrenching.

Too many people don't realize what these heroes went through. It's a shame. I am glad that there is stuff like this to continue to shed a light.
