*OFFICIAL* Thread: WIS X and the Cluster of Sim (2 Viewers)

First four were no-brainers IMO. Now it gets interesting.
There's another guy I felt deserved consideration at #2. Will bring it up after he's selected.ETA: Never mind ... I was talking about Walter Johnson, and he was just taken by Sammy.

1.04 - Ted "Teddy Ballgame" Williams

We thought there was a pretty clear top four, so are pretty happy with the fourth pick

6 Years - 1941, 1942, 1946, 1947, 1954, 1957

First bad luck roll with 1917 Walter Johnson... I think the worst out of the years you chose but the worst of Walter Johnson is better than any other pitcher basically.

I hope I screwed up my dice roll, because I rolled a four, which gives me the worst of Williams' seasons. Which is still awesome. But damn't.

Can somebody verify the rolls in Gmail?
They're all there. It'd be nice if people could put the years in the dice roll subject though.
Not sufficient to do it in this thread?
I guess it is.I'm paranoid and suspect someone will roll, then rig the year selection afterwards.
 i'd do this, so i'm guessing others would too.............years must be listed in dice roll subject

how about this template

1.01 (12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 21)

(Maddux's) 5th best season by my calculations. 268 innings at least...
1993 Maddux is basically a baserunner per start worse than 1994 ... and two baserunners per start worse than 1995. Strikeouts are about the same. His 1993 home run rate is significantly lower than 1995, but not much behind 1994.

I'm not crazy about this pick, but he's got six good years at a very scarce position.

Honus Wagner, SS

1903, 04, 05, 07, 08, 09

Pretty safe pick, little variance in between years. The roll won't matter much.Position scarcity is the hardest thing for me to evaluate in this draft. No idea what constitutes baseline production when we're randomly rolling.

 If you get caught outside of a positional run, you have the option in this format of hanging back and playing Russian Roulette later in the draft. A desperate plan, but it could yield a relative top-tier player.

1.08 (8) Willie Mays - CF

Years: 54, 55, 57, 58, 64, 65

Thrilled to nab this transcendent player, and one many consider the best all-around player of all-time, at #8. Roll forthcoming.

ETA: Dieroll = 6, so get 1965. This was Mays' best OPS+ year, when he hit 52 HR. Lost most of his speed by then, though.

Koya -- hats off on the idea. Waiting on the dice rolls is suspenseful this early on ... wait until we get to the guys with 5 elite seasons ... or even 4 or less. The schadenfreude will be thick in the air

Conversely, there will be loads of excitement over those that hit on their few-season wonders.

Yeah, that'll probably be the only option at some positions. This may be the first sim where the late rounds/rolls are crucial.

Koya may not have a lot of ideas, but the ones he does have are occasionally brilliant

Roll confirmed. You got the 52 HR season, if memory serves.

Agreed. We have to give up the expectation of fair playing field here... which is very much a part of baseball.I mean, the PERFECT scenario is pick 5 consecutive years and do one of those dynasty style leagues, but I don't see that happening here and this is a pretty good approximation.

This idea has been bandied about since WIS I. I'm glad we're finally doing it.Fun so far even though my roll sucked.
