I never doubted the Tigers would get this far.

That series was always in doubt, just like this one is. Tigers are slight dogs, but I really am liking the Tigers starting pitching right now.

If Verlander can get it done in game one I really like the Tigers against the Rangers. It seems like we've played them very well the last couple years and I love the fact that we'll be facing more left-handers now. Much of the damage the Tigers inflicted came off CC. Ordonez and Inge will continue to play big roles going against the lefties and Raburn will absolutely be a factor.

Just like any playoff series, the team that pitches best will win. Verlander being ready to pitch game 1 is an advantage for the Tigers. My guess is that Young won't be ready game 1 even thkugh they say it's minor. That has been a big bat in the Tiger lineup, the Tigers will need a new hero this series.

Leyland always keeps us guessing. Over 100 lineups used throughout the season. 5 lineups in 5 games in the ALDS. Should have a challenge to guess the lineup. The only certainty is Jackson leadoff, Cabrara 4th, and VMart 5th. Everything else is a crap shoot. I really hope Young is healthy, he's been a huge addition down the stretch. If he is healthy, you can write him in the 3rd spot.

Yes without Boesch, Young is needed in that lineup.

Young's injury is being called a mild oblique strain. Did it during an AB. It is something that typically takes a couple weeks to heal, and could easily be aggravated by batting. IMO, it is not looking good for him returning for the Texas series depending on the damage. I am sure we will find out more officially over the next couple of days.

As I was able to do during the Tigers' last trip to the ALCS/WS in 2006, I will have a press/field pass to their home games

I'm getting paid (believe it or not) to run photo disks from the photographers to the "dark room" between innings. Tough work, but someone has to do it. :D

I like the Rangers, but seeing the Tigers win wouldn't bother me at all. Anybody but the Yanks and Red Sux.

Why are two 'minor' league teams still playing, while all the real major league teams are all sitting at home watching?

Injured Delmon Young left off Tigers' ALCS roster; infielder Danny Worth added

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Outfielder Delmon Young is not on the roster for the Detroit Tigers for the American League Championship Series.

Young, who suffered an oblique injury Thursday during Game 5 of the AL Division Series, was not on the playoff roster the Tigers submitted today for their ALCS matchup with the Texas Rangers.

The Tigers replaced Young on the roster with Danny Worth.

Young said Friday that he would do what he could to get on the field and that the doctor he saw left it up to him.

"I'm just going to try to give it every shot," he said. "I'm going to go out there and try to play."

The loss is a big one for the Tigers. Young set a Tigers franchise record for most home runs in a single playoff series in the ALDS with three in just five games.

With Young out of the lineup, expect Ryan Raburn to start in left field in Game 1. Don Kelly and Andy Dirks could also see time in the outfield during the ALCS due to Young's absence.

The Tigers have plenty of flexibility in the infield, but Worth could see action as a pinch-runner or a late-innings defensive replacement at second or third.

Ouch, that is a big blow to the Tigers lineup. Delmon Young's bat has been huge for the Tigers ever since they got him. Now we have to watch Rayburn bat. Kelly swung the bat pretty well during the ALDS. Kind of expected though from the description of the injury.

Missing two of their best outfield bats now with him & BB gone. Gotta find a way to get batters 1-3 on base in front of the middle of the lineup guys.

Fixed....Mags, Rayburn, Kelly, Jackson....Not sure what to expect. Although there has been some improvement in the hitting.

Since July 7th, Raburn is hitting .343 and he has always hit well in the second half. I think he steps up and fills the void.
I think he is 11 for 26 vs. Texas too. I hate to rely on Rayburn as a key bat, but he will get some hits. I would at least bet he hits better than ARod did last series.

Magglio has been hot and Raburn smashes lefties. Young provided power in the three spot that will be sorely missed but it can be overcome if Miggy wakes up.

I appreciate that Delmon was good in the ALDS and that probably colors peoples perceptions a little, but Young is no better of a hitter than Raburn. In fact, if you compare the two since Young's arrival, Raburn is a much better hitter. Just don't get the Young love (ALDS excluded). He won't take a walk, doesn't have the power to compensate and is a disaster in the outfield. Second-half Raburn is a much better player.

In 40 games for the Tigers, Young hit 8 HR, 32 RBI, and .305. That is pretty solid and included some big clutch hits. Tiger fans are a bit skeptical of Rayburn because he was terrible the first half. He really did come on in the second half so there is reason to believe he will produce. Definitely a more decipline hitter.

Tigers have to sweep at home or this is over. Not an easy task when you are playing the hottest team in basesball.

A positive development, Jackson's bat actually touches the ball.
They have bigger problems. Like Miggy and Vmart being a combined 9-50.
.340 hitters hitting .160 and .217. The whole team though has been terrible with men on base though. I don't even want to know how many guys have been LOB.
Considering they've taken 13 walks in 2+ games now, it isn't pretty. They need a three run inning where there are no homers. This is just ridiculous.

0-2 with RISP....Avila needs a week off or something. He is completely lost up there.

Boy Texas is getting some lucky hits.

If you only watched this series, you would think the hit and run is the stupidest play ever. Resulted in three double plays so far.
