Well, at least that guy is great in 3-run, 9th-inning save situations.
This is worse than the Goggins post, seriously. WTF is wrong with you?
I think they babied him all year. Weren't something like all but one of his save situations just one-inning affairs?
He's 52 for 52, most closers just pitch one inning these days. Guy has been nails all year, they should have won that game like game 2 long before the 11th.

I know his numbers are fine this year, I just don't think he's all that great and Leyland did a good job of babying him. Not meaning to flame anybody, I just don't think he's really good.Edit: pretty sure I said something similar when the Rays were playing the Tigers earlier this year, so it's not exactly a new sentiment for me.

Well that loss isn't on Valverde and the Tigers are 82-0 when leading after the 7th inning this year. Mariano only pitches the ninth, Papelbon only pitches the ninth and Heath Bell only pitches the ninth. Not sure what to say, it was a team loss and Valverde had only a small part in the loss. Just frustrating because these teams are different in strengths yet about even, yet the Tigers are on the wrong end of a 3-1 series. And your post couldn't have been worse than anything by goggins, I just wanted to exaggerate a bit since I think you did the same.

Well to be fair, I saw where you said the Rays should be contracted today, and I knew that Valverde comment would honk you off.

Any closer on his 3rd consecutive day of pitching, in another multiple inning outing is going to be on fumes. I was surprised Leyland sent him out for a second inning tonight, personally. Can't put it on Valverde IMO.

Subtitle seems about right. :lmao:

There are so many key things in a baseball game. What if Delmon Young had hit that ball fair to make it 3-0? What if the Rangers would have gotten a hit off Al-Al in the 7th? What if Kinsler hadn't stolen third? The Elvis ball was an out otherwise. What if Delmon's fly ball had gone ten feet further? A lot happens and by the time you roll into extra innings there were 100 things that could have changed the complexion of the game. I thought Leyland might go Coke in the 11th because Hamilton was leading off but it didn't matter after Coke, Tigers needed to win it in the bottom of the 11th because then we were looking at Perry or Penny. Valverde has been awesome all year, no way he can be blamed after throwing 4+ innings over the past three days.

Really had nobody else. Ryan Perry? Brad Penny? Scherleth?About Valverdes season, I think it was a combo of being very good at times, and getting good breaks at times. There were many outings I felt he was not that good but got away with the save. Results are all that matter in this business. The Rangers have a tough lineup to get through unscathed. When you have to face Nelson Cruz out of the 7th spot it will tax most staffs. And if Porcello had not thrown away the pickoff attempt we would not being talking about this. It would be 2-2 with Verlander going today. I already had envisioned a 2-2 series and Verlander tossing a CG today and getting the staff rested.

Trying to steal second with one out and Cabrerra on deck was very confusing to me. I know I have the benefit of hindsight, but even if he's successful and Raburn makes an out, you've taken the bat out of Cabrerra's hand. With two out and Jackson on first I can't believe Washington would walk Cabrerra. Of course, he walked him with no one on earlier, so maybe I'm just babbling.

So Austin Jackson attempted to steal second on his own? He had the green light in game 4 of the ALCS down two games to one in the bottom of the 10th of a tie game?

Justin at 96 pitches, maybe two more innings. I think they have to get two more, let him go to 130. He did that once this year but went over 120 ten times.

Scoring a few runs on some singles would be great. I know they are banged up but it's hard to believe how they just can't score besides extra base knocks.

Strangely, I'm a lot calmer watching the Cardinals/Brewers series. I wonder why that is?

Coke tried to kill me today, wasn't the first time that happened, but I didn't expect that in 2011.

Well at least it wasn't Fister. That would have been way too much information. NTTATWWT.

Why were the Tigers so quick to put Delmon on the shelf for the whole series?? Thankfully Maggs got hurt. Seems a little strnage that Delmon only missed one game a looks fine.

Leyland tends to be overly cautious with protecting players health. I think he miscalculated the extent of the injury. Besides I think he kept too many pitchers on his rooster, and already had a short bench and could not afford holding someone on who wasn't healthy enough to play.

I used to keep too many pitchers on my rooster in my college days, can't pull that off now with the wife and all. Kudos to Jimmy Smokes.

He goes on what the trainers and medical staff tell him. It was a healthy Worth or putting Delmon in there hoping he'd recover from the same injury that kept him out 19 days earlier this year. Leyland isn't a doctor and I don't think he pretends to be one in the dugout either.
